I CAN NOT SEE THE WOOD FOR THE TREES

  • I have been trawling through this forum and I can not for the life of me understand why no one has cleaned it up... The problems I have are basically these:

    WHO needs a signature that is TEN TIMES bigger than the space there actual reply is. It's almost getting to the point where only 3 posts fit in a page!

    Why is there not more numerous, more specific Topic lists? It would help all us 'noobs' to find those rules we need to read and where to ask about them or where to go with a question... this whole forum has more bells and whistles getting in the way of nice simple discussions and topics than is necessary...

    Sorry for whining, and it may just be me but this is the only main forum I found through playing Freelancer Crossfire... I might be better going to a more General forum specifically FOR freelancer and mods in general...

    for instance, I want to make a clan but I wouldn't know who to talk to about that unless I had read as much as I have and figured out OP is the main man and founder of CF... and still there seems to be no "contact the CF admin topic" or "What YOU can do to promote CF and help the community" topic...

    You can maybe see under all this agro that I am a dedicated CF player and I want more than anything to see more freelancer lovers to find this mod and not just get dragged into Discovery because it's the most popular or get scared away by a nearly empty CF server and no real idea of whether there they should RP or just fly about doing there own thing?...

  • In general new people only have to make a post with questions like yours, or use the Search engine or FAQ if they want to ask common questions like about bugs...

    Thats because my day has only 24 hours that i have to spend earning money, creating mods, building websites, moderating the portal/forum and dealing with everybodies problems. And thats not going to change as there are at least 1000 tasks left to do.

    i dont need such signatures but moderating those takes MUCH more time than I have... see above
    next to that i doubt that with smaller signatures more than 3 posts fit on the screen too

    More specific topic lists?
    What do you mean by that?
    You probably mean stuck threads... well... we have more than 100 of them dealing with ALL the important topics. Next to that we have a very clean forum structure here for specific questions about certain topics. Not to mention a very detailed Help and a FAQ covering almost all questions meanwhile. Rules about the CF server can be found on the CF server website (where they belong to). Rules about the Portal can be found at the Main Menu right at the top of EVERY Page at the same place where also the Help and the FAQ are located. So EVERYTHING is right under your nose.
    Next to that does every new member have to read the rules and accept them right after the registration in order to use the Portal. The old members which already had an account on the old Portal also had to accept those rules when we moved to the new Portal software. If you have just clicked away those rules then you cant blame anyone else for that.

    Im not sure if you noticed already but SWAT is one of the very few FL communities left. And actually the most active one.

    Use the search or switch to the correct forum board -> Freelancer -> Crossfire
    and you will find threads about how to promote CF... or you stick with the general Freelancer boards and promote FL instead

    How to contact me?
    -> write a PM
    -> write a IM
    -> write a mail -> you can get detailed contact information from my forum profile
    -> use my guestbook
    -> contact me via messenger -> you can get detailed contact information from my forum profile
    -> open a thread on the CF boards
    -> use the Contact form on the top of this Portal

    How to find out who is responsible for something?
    -> read the readme coming with the mod
    -> read the FLMM info coming with the mod
    -> read the console messages on the server which repeat every 10 mins to contact me -> with detailed contact information
    -> click on "Team" at the top of the forum pages to find out who runs this place
    -> read the forum threads about how i created and administrate CF or this Portal
    There are probably half a million other obvious ways to find out something like that.

    I can see that but promoting the mod is not my job... thats the job of every player (if they ever consider to start doing that someday instead of complaining)

  • Thnx OP for reply, I actually understand lists more than anything else and have a problem with lots of information on a screen at a time it overwhelms me a bit... I will probably be referring to your post a lot as I find my way around this forum and CF related problems :)

    Have you got any other people that work as a team with you? I know there are other moderators but it would be cool if you had a mod team to relieve the sheer work load of it all! CF is an amazing mod of a game I already fell in love with and I reckon I will be playing solely CF until I get round to trying Discovery and see what all the fuss is about Lol...

  • well there is a moderating team now (since a few weeks) and its looking somewhat better meanwhile as they really try to move some things

    most of the are new to the "job" and still have to learn which of course takes time but they will get it

  • Destroying angel...welcome to the portal

    Every forum is different and I found the portal a bit tedious to navigate at first too, but you get used to it.

    The guys on the portal are helpful and are good sports, they kindly put up with my humor on a regular basis.

    I find the search feature the most helpful, and I PM other members when I really need help, and they get back to you right away...which I rarely find on other forums at all.

    One thing I have learnt from posting and reading the portal is that OP gives a shit and cares about CF and the portal, as well as many others. Hopefully, this means

    the portal and CF will have a future.

    P.S. you mentioned about being agro...you want agro then may I suggest a trip to the Inner Core...there you'll lose whatever hair you have left, believe me. :)

  • hehe yep, a trip to Inner Core and back by the Only exit from there(which is right at the other side of the sector), is the msot challenging part ^^ aswell as you have to do some multiplayer storyline to even get there. Else the DK guard stations will rape you before you see the system after you enter a concret jumphole.

  • Hmmm... sorry to digress from the starter topic, but after a long absence, and relative unfamiliarity with the new format, I have not been able to find anything about the new PM format. What is a "wanted poster"? I get several PM's, but there seems to be no content, only the "poster". I would love to respond to those who apparently are trying to send a message, but I am lost with this new PM format ATM! Any help?? :huh:

  • In the PM you get a link to that guy's wanted poster, you get warned just to be sure that guy don't add something illegal on there ^^
