Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • I can agree to the thing that infocards work... at least in CF 1.8.

But if you've seen something, that on singleplayer appears rare, or different ,you can report with a screenshot so we know, it could be a bug that provokes problems on the server. ^^

  • Swat_Op and Michael,

I agree that the infocards are much improved in CF 1.8.

However, I have observed several types of minor problems with the .DLLs. I thought they were known:

    • Some infocards do not match the available commodities (minor severity -- probably known?).
    • Some infocards are inconsistent with the system (minor)
    • Some infocards are completely wrong. For example, several "Information" type cards contain ship information or other completely incorrect information (moderate).
    • The DLLs do not appear to open correctly in FLed-IDs. (Could this behavior be related to your copy protection work?)
    • Adding .DLLs to Freelancer.ini causes what appear to be unpredictable results. (Could this behavior also be related to copy protection?)

The last two points are important to some of us Single Players, but they are not an issue for Multi-Player.

I would be happy to provide screen shots if you can tell me how to do it without re-activating CF (I did not choose the screen shot feature when I activated CF).

If I must reactivate CF again... well, I might do it, just for you guys, since you have been so helpful. :)

PS to Swat_Op: For crying out loud, "modding" is not "cheating". Get over it, Man! I am surprised that you, as a modder, would even think that. I'm not trying to stir up an argument... I am just pointing out that Single Player is a different kind of game than Multi Player. Modding is part of the fun of the game (in Single Player)

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who do not.

  • Winkie, you DO NOT need to activate the CF with the settings of "Screen Shot Capture settings", that feature is Only for when you register, with fraps, or some screenshots, you have a better screen without the panels, mouse and other elements that can disturb a good screen.
Even that feauter is Bugged, it's not working properly and heavely recommended to Not activate it.

So, you can still press the print screen button, and make screenshots in the same way as before. ;)

And yes, the bugs you say are rare... or weird... If yu make a screenshot o each of it, we'll know it so it can be improoved. If nobody knows even where and what item is bugged... we can't help. If you get the point... sayind .dlls are bugged and wrong won't help, saying and showing, item called XXX Or Dom Kavash station in syste XXX sector XXX that do help.

PS: Don't think wrong of the XXXs lol

Oh, wow! (*blush*). I use PrintScrn all the time for screen captures, but I just assumed that it would not work in the DirectX screen. And I use Evernote, which hooks PrintScrn, so it actually did not work on my PC... until I turned off Evernote!

Thanks... it's my turn to learn something new!

OK, I will make screen captures, and put them in your CF Bugs thread, when I come across something that looks odd.

And, yes, I completely understand the importance of making specific and sufficiently detailed bug reports! When I am not playing Freelancer, one of the things that I do is professional software engineering. As you are aware, training users to submit good reports is a pain!

  • OP, I just told y'all what I saw for myself that works to trick the Launcher. I did not do those!

I didn't want to acuse anybody. I just wanted to point out that there was somebody able to trick the (1.7) Launcher. Sorry :D .

Uhm, excuse me silly xD, but what is infocard? :D :D :D

    Yes, I agree!

BTW, I like your avatar and nickname. For an evil alien villain, Michael was not such a bad guy. He was just a little extreme -- trying to wipe out all of the Wraiths and most of the Humans in the Pegasus Galaxy... things like that seemed a bit excessive. :)

Michael was brilliant but sometimes misunderstood.

And who could blame him for having a crush on Teyla?

  • ouch, that one fits with Sephiroth's personality xD (Sephiroth is the one of the avatar and signature heh), and more ! That girl is smarter than any of you here... if you notice the Stargate system behind her... none of you could handle that thing xP

besides a few cut off quest descriptions there are NO infocard problems... no missing ones... no mixed up ones... no false ones

An infocard is the way that Freelancer stores formatted dynamic text (text that changes depending on events). Infocards are stored in specially-formatted dynamic linked library files (DLLs).

For example, Rumors, Information at Bars, News, Ship and Weapon specifications, and descriptions for Commodities -- they are all infocards.

Freelancer is designed so that infocards are high performance and fairly easy to add or edit... but the system has some quirks that make them more "fragile" than necessary. By that I mean that, an improperly formatted or mis-numbered infocard can crash Freelancer. Freelancer should display a funny error card rather than crashing, but that's the way it works.

Infocards are a minor hassle for modders because there are too many factors that can mess them up.

  • lol, crystal clear explanation for Radu :D

But, there are planet and station infocards too...

    Ooooooo-K, Swat_Op.

    I believe you.

No, no. Really. I believe you...

    Honest. ;)

Given some of the quirks of the way that InfoCards are implemented in Freelancer, I am surprised that they work correctly as often as they do.

PS: I would send you the exact IDs... if only I could open them with FLed-ids (*sigh*). Which, if you think about it, is a problem in itself.... at least for Single Players.

  • Yes, actually it's a lot safer if you just bring a screenshot of a possible bug you see, we check it, and if it's the same bug for all, it gets fixed :) If we don't see the same bug at that spot, then you have a corrupt installation heh.

    Agreed.

I actually tried to do that once, but I attempted to send you the exact ID of the infocard. When I could not do that, I figured that you would notice the card during testing and I just moved on to other tasks.

    Nice character-defining clip. Thanks!

(But I am surprised that neither of the challengers thought to just pull Sephiroth's hair and make him squeal like a little girl!)

Still, the hair is stylish, especially in mid-flying-jump.
