I think that would be a good idea, if only to make screenies look better
No. Otherwise it's hard to see them (and AFAIK [could be wrong tho] even in XXI century fighter jets the enemies are visually marked on the HUD)
For screenies - wasn't there supposed to be a NoHUD version too? I remember that we talked about this, OP
yes we talked about such an option but it did not include the removal of those brackets since it has nothing to do with that option
i actually think that you still can see all the npcs as none of them spawns in a distance where it is not visible or does not have engine glows + contrails

I think (not know) that it would be bad.
I think you should remove the white brackets. It would not just make the screenies look a bit better, it would also make the npc-hunters to have to look closer around to see them
Maybe you can remove all things around every ship, until its targeted, so you have just the ship flying by and no square at all..
I dont know if thats possible, but it would make the whole thing a bit more interesting
AFAIK the brackets can be removed generally. Not sure if that only works for NPCs around. Else if that is possible - could we determine the pros and contras in the beta?

i tested it for some time... i like it
the ships still can be seen (its hard not to see a moving glow of an engine far away)
in my eyes it is more realistic and looks better
but i probably can take a video clip so you can see it

when you hover your mouse over that ship it appears again and when you locked a ship it will stay locked

Off topic : Wouldn't be better if you fill the systems with even more npc's ? It will be cool to see a lot of flying patrols of every faction around

i know I'm not a part of the dev team but i do have one question: in the current game, when a NPC talks, the bracket turns yellow. if you remove the brackets, does it matter if we know who is talking and who isn't?

P.S. IMO, i'd rather remove the brackets (like OP said, "more realistic") but i was just posing the question.
when npc talk the brackets appear for a short moment so you can see who is talking
