Possible Trading Bug

I remember something like that happening to me the first few weeks around when I was here. Trading's a must and I was doing anything possible to trade, however sometimes when I buy stuff and I try to undock I get kicked. That was due to the fact that the economy of the planet had changed but wasn't updated so I was essentialy "buying" something that didn't exist. If he can undock without a cargo he should change his trade route and wait for the next server restart to see if the trade commodities of the planet had changed. Should that have happened, that will be the answer you were looking for and would know if in the future same stuff happens, you will know how to avoid it.
If it ain't that though then I can't help you.

could be a failing update process which has cause this

This has happened to me before, I am sure Jack and OP is right.
I had to wait until the next reset I think.. but it has been a long while, I normally just keep trying things until I use up all immediate solutions. I seem to remember it being close to the next reset, so the reset is likely what the fix was for that situation.

Thanks for the info. If I see new players having this problem again, I'll let them know how to avoid (or wait for reboot).

I concur; the dynamic economy appears to begin its update about an hour or so before the actual server restart/update. So if I log in within an hour of the restart, trading is already offline. If I log in earlier than that, trading is still functional. I have not yet identified the exact timing, but the economy does appear to be out of sync with the other server files ATM...

no - the economy calculations and the updates of the stats require some time... thats why it starts earlier

... and this was confirmed this morning while playing about 2 or 3 hours before the server reboot at 0600 GMT. "transman" and "wizard" were attempting to trade and they continuously were getting kicked for "possible cheat" but it was because they were trying to trade. i took some screenies if you want to see them but i figure there's no point since we all now know why it happens.
if i may make a recommendation; perhaps a warning or "stickie" letting people know that this is an issue so they can learn to avoid it or at least recognize it when it happens.
thanks again for the help with this issue. i will continue to inform players as i see it occur.
