Crossfire 1.9 Features

  • I know what you mean, althought the only purpose I wanted the mission rewards to be bigger so I could get a reasonable reward after beating a mission. A reward that would fit better in the crossfire universe. Considering some of the newer tech that costs a massive sums of money, the current rewards are only enough to repair my ship and resupply my missiles usually. And the rest is up to the cargo you picked up in the battle that you can get otherwise anywhere else with little effort.

I mean imagine this, you start the game and you find out you have 150k of credits that is more than enough to buy a nice loadout to begin with, but when you hit the bar and Juni is like "lol I'll give you this starflier and 2000 creds which pales in comparison to your starting moneys. Good luck!"

    Will work for food huh? ;_;

Kind of feels disappointing if you get what I mean.

EDIT: Or then again, maybe I'm just a little greedy.

    One more thing:
Can you increase the amount of maximum missiles you can carry at once? Like 80 or ever 100?
Or is this topic been debated over 9000 times before?
I just love making my ships as missile boats loaded with missiles and a shield killer gun, but the 50 max limit of each missile kind of sucks for long missions. :/

Then again, I MIGHT be greedy again. But still it'd be nice to be able to carry more missiles.

I know its sensitive case in terms of balance, hard to find it in order not to exploit it or drive away the dinamic economy...but if it can be done...well that will be very interesting new feature for 1.9.

I'm with Tito on this, mining would be a great way to expand commerce throughout Crossfire and create the "miner" RP and eventually, "miner" clans. Perhaps all new commodities as suggested, "crude/unrefined X" items and so forth, specialized mining ships/freighters and even a few "miner" weapons to harvest ore. This RP could also be expanded into refineries nearby nebulas and asteroid/ice fields.

With a little reworking of certain nebulas(gas fields), they too could be harvested for raw gases just like asteroid or ice fields for ore.

Two small suggestions that would cure many of the newbie questions and difficulties that I see on this forum:

    1) Allow Manhattan ships to be purchased at Level 0. That would be less "difficult" for newbies and less "tedious" for experienced players.

My experience is that Crossfire difficulty is good as it is. Difficulty progresses smoothly from New York to the rest of Sirius, and into Altair and the Inner Cloud. Players can adjust DIFFICULTY_SCALE if they want more fine-tuning.

The only real "problem" is Mission 1, which makes some people quit too soon, and is boring for others.

The ability to buy a Rhino or Patriot before Mission 1 would solve the problems for both newbie and experienced players.

    2) Add "training" rumors or News items in New York.

    For example:

    • Press the "Z" key to "slide" in space. Use your thrusters to control direction and speed. Sliding allows you to turn more quickly, and allows you to keep your weapons aimed at the enemy, while making your own ship more difficult to target.
    • If you are in autopilot mode ("Go To...") when hit with a cruise disruptor, press "Esc" to cancel the autopilot so that you can slide ("Z" key).
    • Lasers are fast and accurate but do little damage. Try harder-hitting weapons. Lavablade Plasma Cannons hit much harder and are very cost effective.
    • Weapons platforms have long range and high power. Take them out first, then go after enemy fighters.
    • It is most cost-effective to learn to kill your enemies quickly. Try hard-hitting weapons -- as many as your ship will take.
    • It is often better to have more weapons than it is to have the highest level weapons.
    • If too many high level weapons use too much power for your ship, try trading a couple of guns for missiles or lower-level weapons.
    • If all of your guns have the same speed, it will improve your targetting computer's "lead" estimate.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who do not.

THAT WOULD BE GREAT !! It would give some time to explore a bit and "work" on your reputation for several NPCfactions - especially after you got acsess to a prison (happy bounty hunting) [11] . The "difficulty" in terms of fighting abilities of the npc's is IMO good as it is now, a bit challenging as it should be.

But I've got another idea/question of makebility for the far-future CF1.9:

Would it be possible to give it kinda "evolving" universe in single player mode? Like getting a notification on the news or the neuro net when - after you have hit i.e. the 15 or 20 million credits -, that the jumpgate to Chugoku is finished and started operation, or that the trade lines in Tau-31 are completed and fully operational, or that California Minor finally is opened for settling. AND that when you go there you finde the gate open, the trade lines working and new city scape on California minor ( other possibility: that i.e. GAIA finally gets opened to public with a completly new planet with bar, trader etc. ).

OP, you have said, that you think about linking the CF-quests in a REAL campaign. Then perhaps with kinda "evolution" from the end of the original campaign as mentioned above ? It would make it more sensible, that there are the new jumpgates, which then should only pop up, AFTER someone finished the original campaign and reached the according level(of money).

I once found a constant.ini in a mod that allowed up to 1800 missiles. But what's the point of having enough ammo for a machine gun, when you can fire only every 2 or 4 secs ? I think it's also an issue of balancing and multiplay.

But what about having a 50rounds-capacity for EVERY missilelauncher someone has ? So, when you loadout your ship with 2 catapultlaunchers you can load 100 catapultmissiles, but when you loadout with 1 catapult and one eraser, you can hve only 50 catapults and 50 erasers. Also you can only BUY 100 catapult when youn OWN 2 catapultlaunchers.
    ( Idea for CF 1.9 ? )

Thank you for the kind words, Hellraiser.

Yes, I have been playing Freelancer since it came out... 2003, I think. Before that, I played every other game made by the same people -- Chris Roberts, formerly of Digital Anvil. Roberts invented the modern space simulation game with his Wing Commander series, Privateer, and Starlancer and Freelancer.

For my tastes, nobody has ever made better space sims than Chris Roberts and Digital Anvil. Unfortunately, Roberts went to Hollywood to make movies and appears to have left the game scene. It is tragic, because Roberts was brilliant at games but is mediocre at movies. (*heavy sigh*)

No, I was not a Freelancer developer, but I am an enterprise trouble-shooter with solid programming skills (among others). I seem to have a knack for quickly understanding complex systems and being able to describe them in ways that most people can understand. I often wind up as something of a "translator" between technologists and the rest of the world. I do the same in several other fields -- not just Freelancer. :)

While there are many great ideas in this thread, some of them are difficult (or impossible) to implement. The two ideas that I suggested to OP are easy for him to do... if he wants to. They are the easiest ways that I can think of to solve a large number of player questions and issues.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who do not.

  • Bullwinkle i may have the same tastes for games as u cause i too like games like freespace and freelancer.

OP read the post about gravity and tell me if u liked it.
Also check the booster color thread, i uploaded a picture u might use it in 1.9
    PS:Have some rest b4 that

    meh.

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

Do you know anything about it ?
Dustbinned for quicker release or better performance on multiplay by microsoft ?
What engine was it ? Or should it have been an own development ?
Ever anybody asked the developer ?

    YOUR opinion.

And if OP wouldn't have to work all day'n'night fixing your "important" MP problems (lots of them are due to stubborn MP's) he would have more time doing what he's best in - MODDING !!

  • but he did his best in modding as the matter of fact , the thing that you play in SP , you haven't realized it yet ? . And about MY opinion , well you're wrong... tell me then , how would you RP in SP , how would you make the game more interactive in SP and finally why don't you play in MP ?? that why the mod was designed (besides SP storyline wich will come in 1.9 if i'm not wrong ) . If you play MP its the same as SP , only the good taste of the mod comes there ! Consider that and advise !

And as I've said in another thread:
part (big part) of the fun I have with games like FL (and esp. CF) is fumbling around with them, see how things work, testing new things, settings etc..

  • i dont know what happened to it... maybe it was part of an early version or just experimental
fact is the FL engine does not support it anymore and i see no way to get it from somewhere

there are many left overs in the FL code
Lancer Solurus and I have discovered so many inactive code
FL once was meant to support real animated textures and even mathemetic calculated models instead of fixed ones
