Crossfire Server 2.0

    I already agreed to this so its too late to step back ^^


    Right after the release of Crossfire 1.8 a 2nd Crossfire server will be created running Crossfire 1.7.
    I guess that means a bit of work for haegar due to the launcher and the update process but in worst case he needs to change a url or add a complete new function that reading out a source file for the update destinations (i leave that to you haegar ^^)



    That new server does already exist but does not run a good mod yet... it has a community already but im sure we will find a way to keep the 2 communities together.
    CF1.8 clans will not be able to claim rights on that 1.7 server as it wont have any clan systems.

    whats the purpose to run 2 servers with 2 different version that are most likely not working with each other?
    And why there is a need of two communities?

    Hmmm - from what I read here, I suspect lack of communication, as I too are wondering why a server for 1.7 will be needed oO. I suppose people would want to try the 1.7 server out every now and then.....or not since 1.8 will include past things.....some of them...i think?

    Wouldn't it be a better idea to somehow *magically* connect those two servers together for extra processing power (kinda like SETI@HOME did)

    There was an idea of having 2 servers running CF, where one runs Sirius & the other - Altair & Inner Core. But that was waaay back...

    Assumption is the mother of all fuckups.


    Being a Cynic isn't that bad. Either I'm right or I am pleasantly surprised.

    no - the idea behind that is pretty simple.... that server needs a mod... and its better CF1.7 is running there than another mod


    the communities wont be splitted... and sometimes its not a bad idea to have a 2nd server coz some players might have too much lag due to the server location

    Still I think that combining their processing power would be the best (although hardest [more like impossible] to do) option :P

    I dont know which community is meant but i know that there are some (especialy vanilla servers) around which are discussing if they will have a chance to survive without a good Mod.


    It wouldn´t be that easy to put the communities together because of all the structures build in the past years around them. It´s not meant to be that it would be impossible but at least it would be much work.


    Since OP choosed to say yes to it, it must be a good and trustworthy community - otherwise he wouldn´t give is work away. Probably we all can get advantages (both communities) in running two CF Servers, because there will be an exchange of knowledge and experience for sure, atm ofc. more from SWATs side but later there probably will come things back which OP and Haegar can use.


    I just fear, that the other community will lose players because of the journey from 1.7 to 1.8. We will see - I can understand this decision. And tbH. CF as a whole will become even more interest which is always good.

    Well if so, for me it's still cool :) I have 30-40 less ping than the rest of europe...and it's good for the game's activity.
