I have just had my first real pvp. It was a tax avoidance scheme that didnt work out.
I was wandering what are the protocols for attacking a pirate. Can I attack any I see without warning?
Do I have to respond verbally to a request for tax?
what if I scan a pirate freighter can it be attacked? what happens to any loot?
manners maketh man

Pirates:
All pirates must have a pirate licence mounted on their ship. Only exception is if an ASF or CSF licence is mounted and the whole clan is known to be
pirates.Pirates life is a though one, they have to tax other players to earn their daily money.
They may not open fire on a player without asking for tax and receiving an answer no matter if this reply is written word or an action. If the player does
pay then the pirate can be happy. If the player does not pay the pirate may destroy him.
Pirates may not tax more than the listed amounts (see "Taxes, Fines, Bounty").
Pirates may attack police without any warning and may hire mercenaries if needed. If a player has been taxed he may not get taxed again within the next 2 hours.
Police:
All police must have a police licence mounted on their ship. Only exception is if an ASF or CSF licence is mounted and the whole clan is known to be police.Police duty is to maintain law and order all over Sirius.
They may not open fire on a smuggler without informing them that they are being fined and receiving an answer no matter if this reply is written word or an
action.
The police may scan all players for illegal goods (such as cardamine, alien artifacts or black market goods).
If the smuggler does not pay the fine the police may destroy him.
The police may fine pirates aswell or attack them without warning and hire mercenaries if needed.
Police may not fine more than the listed amounts (see "Taxes, Fines, Bounty").And usually most of the loot gets destroyed... But there is some that survive
A player which does not wear one of the aboves licences is not allowed to do the roleplay mentioned above. All players not wearing roleplay licences are considered "Freelancers" which does not mean that a pirate will not try to tax them or that the police will not scan them for illegal goods.

Sev, how the RP is supposed to work...
Pirates are not allowed to KOS anyone without asking for tax first. With exception the Police, who may KOS us as we are allowed to KOS them.
Pirates are supposed to ask freelancer/clan one time for tax, if they dont pay they may be hunted. and only once. after they have either payed or died they should by the rules be left alone for 2 hours or up to 1 day. Most pirates will give you a whole day if you do not cause trouble or torment them.
Never take it personal when your taxed. Because to become a pirate, you know that people new to the server will not like it, but you are simply doing your job as a pirate. Without us doing our job, the server would be rather boring and this is just a game, and roleplay.
As a freelancer you have no right to KOS any pirate. I suggest you join the police if you want to do that, or at least have a police licence fitted. Or use your imagination more and hire a Merc to do the job. To keep things within the game playing fairly. Unfortunately due to people ignoring the server RP rules no Mercs are in business as far as i know, however if you feel you could rise to the challenges, then good luck, you'll get many freinds here.
To be honest, you quote of manners, but i think pirates have the best manners of all, as we play by the rules. Those that dont, are disrespect the rules of the game, willingly and have no manners.
P.s. openly admitting tax avoidance schemes doesnt warrant a day pass with me, you'll get just the 2 hours, and be sure i will come again.
Peace.

There are indeed several mercs in business right now, and some of them are quite capable pilots.
Furthermore i am not sure if the fact that there are almost no contracts given out has anything to do with server or RP rules. It's more like people prefer to hunt on their own instead of contracting a merc.
Plus the mercs on the server tend to keep a rather low profile, which is kinda bad advertising. I think i was the last one to offer my services on the forums, and that was somewhen back in January. -

1. i never really had a problem with doing several RPs at a time, even when i started to throw in some copping. And to make life for easier everyone else i even named the chars accordingly.
2. Correct me if i am wrong, guapo, but if i remember right, it was YOU who did his best to lure me into a pirate's life. -
how do you hire mercs and how do you put a bounty on somebody?
not that i will, i need the cash for equipment (honest) -
u can use the ingame command "/setbounty" to place money onto the head of a pilot (it will be taken immediately from ur account into the bounty bank for the time the bounty is running). any merc will check the bounty board ("/bounty") and see if he/she can get the money.
also u can simply make a post here on forum or contact any merc to arrange a contract...

can someone tell me whos a merc on the server at the moment then please ?

Mercenary = anyone with a mounted mercenary license. This enables them to accept funds directly from console-posted jobs, or freelance jobs from the Bulletin Board. From a practical standpoint, nearly any player can qualify, since many professionals will do a little "moonlighting" from time to time...

I have 2 Mercanery Characters (Daywalker and Nightstalker).
I am hired too for the next 2 or 3 weeks for a very good price. And i know some other Mercaneries (good pilots). You can ask me if i am online.
And i not check this Forum often.
