FAO Germans, travel info needed

    Me and my GF are planning or better said intending to go on a trip to Germany's mayor cities for some time now...


    Last year we even booked a flight to Berlin for a day but I wasn't allowed to board because my passport was out of date ( stupid, I know)


    What I want to ask is:
    -how many days do we need to see and visit most of Berlin's cultural hotspots ?
    -what is the best way to move around...going with our own car or go there by plain and use the city's public transport...
    -can we communicate in English? I understand the German language in word and letter but both of us can't talk the language, it would sound something like a Greek under water :P
    -we'd also like to visit Hamburg for sure but we have no clue what other places/cities to visit...


    Any suggestions? (except for the city of Aachen, we always go shopping there, 20 minutes drive from where we live)

    Hamburg.. Berlin.. Dresden..


    Those would be my choices, but as to how many days you will need to explore them.. I don't really know.


    I spent 3 weeks in Berlin and didn't see everything..


    I haven't been to Dresden yet, but I understand for scenery (architecture) it's wonderful.. and it remains one of the most beautiful cities in Deutschland.


    If you have time.. why don't you just drive? I think that would be more fun.. especially if you get lost LOL.. but then, sometimes, getting lost together can be a very romantic experience, no matter what country you're in.. ;)

    Yes, Dresden used to be Eastern Germany, and surely a place worth visiting, I',m thinking about 4 days per city so we could do 5 cities.


    Getting lost wont be a problem with GPS ;)

    Yes, Dresden is in the former East Germay.. and it was heavily bombed during WWII.. that is true. Before that, it was the most beautiful city in Deutschland. I understand that much of it is still intact, or has been rebuilt, since the war.. definitely worth the trip!


    4 days each in 5 German cities? Nice!


    Too bad about the GPS.. lol.. well, I guess you could just 'pretend' to get lost.. hehe.

    If you will have some time left you should visit Cologne and Munich too!


    Most of those Ctities was plain Ground after WWII but we have had some time to rebuild ;)


    Those five Cities would represent all the different Lifestyles, Cultures and Architecture of Germany. To make it by Car in 20 Days could be to much: Berlin -> Hamburg ~290km (4 Hours) Hamburg -> Dresden ~500km (6 Hours) Dresden->Cologne ~570 km (8-10 Hours) Cologne->Munich ~580km (7-9 Hours).

    If you're in Munich you can also throw in Zurich. Oh wait, that's not a german city, there's only just about half of the population from Germany :D

    you could also make a trip to baden-baden


    the area around there (Black Forrest - Schwarzwald) is most beautiful, for those who are interested in nature sightseeing. and you can also spend all of your money in one of germans biggest and famoust casino ;)


    btw look up germany and sightseeing spots in the internet. there will be hundrets of suggestions to travel to. so you just have to pick some, you would be interested in visiting.

    of course you didnt see all of berlin. i did distract you, from going there, going there, and there, and there.. and then.. the time was over .. lol
    but it was the most beautiful time, i ever spent in berlin (not just seeing the city, and eating the obioulsy biggest Schnitzel ever (Bavarian - its a Restaurant close to the Ku'damm)

    I would prefer a round trip, hamburg - berlin - dresden - munich - stuttgart - colone (or general the Ruhr region) - and back to hamburg.
    Only for the big cities - but besides this you will find many interesting things next to the big cities in the small villages ;)

    Btw, that WAS the biggest schnitzel I've ever seen.. but don't deceive the rest of the forum, darling.. you ate that huge one and half of mine too! Then we went back to that same restaurant a few days later, for round 2... lol.


    And you're right.. it was the most beautiful trip of my life too..
