Battleships and docking....

  • They aren't that functional as far as docking goes, but something I recently tested. Newark station for instance. i had hit the dock button and it said I was good to moor. So I was thinking, "ALRIGHT!", this wasn't truly the case. It went into that cut scene mode and it stayed. I pretty much had to logout and back in to get out of it. So then I went to Trenton Outpost there and also tested this. Sure enough it say i am good to moor with them but nothing ever comes of it. Is this supposed to happen, i mean the ability to get them to say I can moor or is this something new to be fixed?


    On a side note, it was kind of funny.

  • The very big Stations have the possibility to dock on (NPCs are doing so) but for some reasons you ever will stay in the cut scenes, yes.


    I don´t think that´s a bug, it´s more unready or not closed off. For the practical use of Capital Ships Supercars is correct.

    As far as i understand it he meant the docking at stations with CapShips which is functional up to the Cutscene. Some big Stations like Newark or the one in Alaska are dockable to the dock points on the Stations.

    It´s a good RP instrument so far, when you put it in a big battle the other side will concentrate the fire on the Cap Ship. I once flew Patrols in two BS with another CFPD - which was realy great fun - for all.


    I wish we would have the dockable Battleships by Players like in the Nightstalker Universe Mod.

  • I remember using The Next Generation mod for Freelancer last year, it actually made docking real easy for docking with planets. Basically they removed the docking rings and all you did was click the planet and you could dock that way, thus removing the mooring fixture out of the equation. I can already tell myself this would never be in CF because...well things might be abused. As for using battleships, I think they can be a practical and vital piece of this mod. They are underused. Plus they are beasts. I can honestly say they hurt, really bad when they hit you. I had seen some posts about them being weak and easy to kill. When 840,000 armor is considered into there I don't understand how they can be easy to destroy, I have the class 10 hull on them, very nice addition.


    Now is it possible to use the shield generators on them? I understand thrusters don't work on battleships at all, will this be fixed in 1.8 or just not even being considered? Honestly, if a pirate used a battle ship to get taxes from someone, I would hope to be pissing my pants in an RP stand point. They can be very influential tools.

  • Well from my point of view BS would be usefull to tax if the cargo that trains drops when being shooted down were not blown by the train explosion. I know OP will work on that for 1.8 so expect more BS taxing when its released. ;)

    removing docking rings is inacceptable since it is against the realism of the game and would cause heavy problems with other parts of the game such as the single player


    the battleships wont be changed... no additional stuff
    the only thing i agreed with is to make equipment harder to destroy so the explosions wont destroy all the loot
    im not going to do any changes on battleships, stations or traderoutes which destroy all the balance we have in CF

  • I don't necessarily want anything changed with battleships at all. The one I have seems like it might have some use for it in many different forms ranging from smuggling support to pirate taxing schemes. I would however like to see the capability to use the docking feature with stations fixed like it is with trains making it only possible to dock with mooring fixtures. Trains work, essentially, the way I think battleships should as far as docking goes.

  • So let me try to get this right. Battleships are intended to dock with everything then? If not then why will it not be fixed?

  • no -- BSs are intended to dock w/ planets who have mooring fixtures. and that's how it's supposed to be. besides BSs are too big for the dockring (let alone the stations -- except those FEW you can actually dock w/ a BS)

  • I don't think you people are understanding what I am typing. I would like battleships to work like trains do and ONLY have the capability to dock with mooring fixtures. Right now battleships are able to dock with any station like Trenton Outpost which inevitably ends up forcing you to logout of the game and then back in due to a glitch or improper coding of the docking procedure.

  • dunno I've never tried docking w/ Trenton [the thing is about the size of a BS :D], but it sure doesn't allow me to dock w/ planets w/o moors.

  • That works as intended. I had discovered this just out of shear boredom while waiting for someone in the New York system. The dispatcher, if you would like to give them that title, lets you know that you are clear to moor. So then it goes into the cut scene mode which was a surprise to me when it happened. The whole reason why I had made this thread was to inform you all because I knew this wasn't supposed to be possible, I mean sure it would be cool to be able to moor with space stations. It would allow more trading opportunities.

  • naah docking w/ stations would mess up the balance. besides - then the trains could be able to do it too. ofc i'd like to do custo run in 100% train not train/pup combo :)
    I'll try that station docking l8r to see it myself...
