Longtime Wing Commander fan Sylvester recently revealed a pretty neat project: he has designed a new Star Trek starship and comissioned the great Howie Day to render it! But what's the Wing Commander connection? The ship is named Concordia, after Wing Commander II's TCS Concordia (CVN-65).
Hello fellow Wingnuts! It's been a long time since I've posted but I've been lurking pretty consistently over the last few years.
In addition to being a huge Wing Commander fan I'm also a huge Star Trek fan. And one of our own community supermodelers, @Howard Day is also an excellent starship modeler.
I recently made a sketch for a science cruiser and commissioned Howie to model it for me. In honor of my favorite Wing Commander carrier, we named is the Concordia.Wing Commander II's Concordia is one of three ships to carry the proud name; the others are the Concordia in Action Stations that fought the first battles of the war and the Concordia supercruiser in the Wing Commander movie (the battleship-like warship commanded by Admiral Tolwyn in his rush to save Earth). The ship itself was named after Concordia University in Austin, Texas (and likely the generally fun idea that a ship named for unity would be built around an enormous gun). Howie has gone on to post some additional renders and a stunning 4K video! Check 'em out:
