…The first Persistent Universe monthly report of the year details all the work done by the Star Citizen team throughout December and January. While the devs and studio teams took a break for the holidays, the early winter months saw a ton of tasks completed, progress made, and new ideas seeded.
Star Citizen Monthly Report: December 2018 - January 2019
AI
The AI Team put effort into stability and optimization for the recent alpha releases and patches.
AI gunships gained new tactical options, including the introduction of a new behavior that allows them to circle enemies and use their turrets to attack from a constant distance. Designers can easily modify this behavior to change things like the optimal attack range and when to disengage the target. The ‘fly-by’ and ‘breakaway’ tactics were also amended to make better use of the predicted hit position and allow ships to better evaluate the

The family-run Ambrose Foundation, a multi-billion credit institution, has lost its entire fortune in a single day.
Business analyst Marlon Royce reported on Vox Galactica:
"The Ambrose Foundation combines the wealth of several centuries-old royal and noble houses. It is primarily involved in corporate investment and occasional charity work."
"All of that changed abruptly when its accountants announced the loss of 100% of all assets, worth nearly three hundred billion credits. Inexplicably, everything the foundation owned has been liquidated and transferred to anonymous accounts at banks scattered throughout the galaxy."
"Local security services are investigating a possible data hack. But of greater concern is the disappearance of family heiress Lady Talitha Ambrose. Some fear she has been kidnapped and forced to provide authorisation codes to her colossal inheritance."

The Ambrose Foundation, a multi-billion credit institution, has lost its entire fortune, prompting security services to investigate a possible data hack. Family heiress Lady Talitha Ambrose has also disappeared, fuelling fears of abduction by those responsible for the loss of her inheritance.
Meanwhile, a commodity drive to revive technology company Supratech has ended successfully. Scorpio DeVorrow, the company's CEO, announced that the efforts had brought the company back from the brink and secured its future.

pahandavhas created a MEGA Overview of the Wing Commander series. He covers each of the main games, which is all of the PC games except the expansions, Secret Ops or Arena. Of course it would be nice if those were included too, but it's still pretty impressive how exhaustive the video is as it takes nearly a full hour to cover the landscape. Lots of streamers hit WC1 or WC3/4, so it's a nice change to hear someone detailing out Academy nav points, Armada shipyards and the nuances of Privateer 2 videos. I suppose we'll just have to wait for the GIGA Overview for more!
In this video, I provide an overview of the 9 main games of the Wing Commander series released between 1990 and 1997.

…Ever since the release of Mass Effect Andromeda, the BioWare series as a whole has been in a bit of a deep sleep – a stasis, if you will. Say what you will about why the latest entry in the series under-performed, the important thing to note is that the future of the series was in question following the reveal that no post-launch content would be delivered for Andromeda. Thankfully, despite all this it was revealed late last year that the Mass Effect series does have a future, we may just have to wait a while for it.
BioWare leads Mark Darrah and Casey Hudson both sat down with the folks over at Polygon recently to discuss the future of our favorite space-faring series, and the discussion that took place echoed the statements made by them on N7 day. Most importantly, a straight answer was given in regards to Mass Effect’s future. “We’re definitely not done with Mass Effect,” Darrah said.

KTH Royal Institute of Technologyin Stockholm. Crazy enough, these two instances weren't the only

…Attention Captains, the Elachi are pouring into the Alpha Quadrant from previously undiscovered Iconian space gates in order to abduct helpless people! The Elachi have been doing with their captives, we need every Captain at the ready to help stop their forces. For a limited time only, the Elachi Alert queued event will return to Star Trek Online. From Thursday, February 14th at 8AM PT til Monday, February 18th at 10AM PT, close these doors to subspace and receive bonus mark rewards. A joint fleet has gathered here to stop them. The fleet consists of science ships that have disabled their weaponry in order to divert all available resources to disabling the gate. We’ll need to protect them from the Elachi until they finish their work. Remember that the science vessels efficiency will drop as they lose crew members to the Elachi. Defend the joint fleet from the Elachi in order to ensure their

Exhausted yet intensely focused pilots speed their ships towards a checkpoint. Once there, their flight logs receive the coordinates for the next destination. The pilots check their scans and pick a route before blasting off into the blackness of space. For the Xi’an pilots who step up to the challenge of the Koa e Ko’ia, this is their life for the next 200-250 hours.
The Koa e Ko’ia is an epic endurance race that’s wildly popular among the Xi’an. Although the race has been contested in various systems across the Xi’an Empire for centuries, it only recently came to Human attention when competitors appeared in the former Perry Line system of Hadur. One day, in 2881, previously open sectors of the system were suddenly off limits, and remained that way for the next week and a half (Standard Time). A campaign from the Holloway Bioscience Institute to build a xenological research centre has concluded successfully.
Chief researcher Dr Roy Casimir told the media:
"Thanks to Nahuaru Crimson Bridge Int we now have sufficient materials to build a planetary outpost where our scientists can study lifeforms identified by the galactic community."
"We are also grateful for the exploration data provided by many pilots, which will help us create a new research catalogue."
Pilots who took part in the campaign can now collect their rewards from Williams Vision in the Nahuaru system.

The Atlas Research Group has urgently requested military materials to increase security in the Merope system.
Defence Director Jacob Chowdhury said:
"The Thargoid presence throughout the Pleiades Nebula continues to be a major threat. To reassure the public, Atlas is investing in improved defences for the Merope system."
"Traders are invited to deliver Reactive Armour and Military Grade Fabrics to Reed's Rest. To help protect incoming ships from criminal elements, we have also allocated bounties to all wanted vessels in the system."
The initiative begins on the 14th of February 3305 and will run for one week. If the final target is met earlier than planned, the campaign will end immediately.

Display MoreA number of invaluable art treasures have been stolen from the Museum of Civilisation on Mars.
Museum historian Dr Imogen Ryang said:
"The stolen pieces include Rembrandt's Self-Portrait with Two Circles (17th Century), Guernica by Picasso (20th Century) and Terra Absentia by Zoe Okeke (23rd Century). Each of the works was replaced with the image of a winking cat."
"The loss of so many cultural artefacts is incalculable. This despicable criminal should have been hunted down long ago."
Culture journalist Kioko McGrath published an alternative view in The Federal Times:
"High-profile crimes such as this have resulted in the 'winking cat' motif becoming a popular anti-establishment symbol, appearing in advertising, graffiti and music. Ironically, the calling card of an art thief is now itself a culturally significant work of art."

SciFi at Waris an interesting mod for Star Wars: Empire at War that we recently stumbled upon. It mashes up different franchises, such as Star Wars, Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica, into one mega game. The video below shows various Halo ships fighting craft from Wing Commander. It doesn't seem like the WC fleet is fully fleshed out, and I can't quite tell if the
modis still active, but it's a pretty cool concept! You can grab it at the
Steam Workshop. If this just makes you want to play a WC RTS game, you can check out the
WC Invasionmod, which is also for Empire at War.
