    @ Firedragon

That's exactly the kind of questions and "suggestions" with its following "discussions" OP is fed up with.
    ...and it is off topic.

    @ Huor

If nobody (espesially newbies) don't know what a certain license/role is all about at the Crossfire universe/server,
    there cannot be any roleplay,
especially not, if there are many players around, who don't do their roleply "properly", who might also have no idea what
their role means, or who might be just badassa not caring about, or who .......(many more reasons).

In that respect I would render Forlons suggestions really worthy.
I, as a new player would starve for such a starting help. Well, I actually still DO starve for something like that.

    @ Forlon

    Really good idea !
For these "sticky" clarifications/explanations of the different Licenses/roles.....
Before "stickiing" them, get them approved or checked by the "rule-maker" himself and/or by the GRs,
who should have to enforce them,
so that they really stay within the range of existing rules.

I haven't been around the server for some time and now I am a bit .....astonished how many different and new clan tags are fyling around:
    CoP
    Borg
    cccp
    lnaw
    BfC
    UGD
    .....etc.
But it's not easy to find some info about these clans. And the server clan list on the updater or the server starting site aren't even mentioning them (esp. on the server site).
Btw: Do HAVE clans or players and groups thereof who present themself as such (wearing a clan tag in their name) to register somewhere (Admin or GR or so) ?

    Suggestion:

Would it be possible to set up a stickied thread, probably best suited here, where ALL the clans residing in the Crossfire universe (title: Crossfire clan list, regularly updated or alike)
are listed, perhaps with some info about them:
what roleplay, evevtually which homesystem, etc. (maybe written by the clan itself)
and/or - if available - with a link to their clanforum for further information. ?

It's quite timey to look through the whole forum to find such info.
And it could make it easier for newcommers to get an overview and - perhaps - to find some clan they might get a bit more familiar
a bit earlier in the game/their servertime, what could - al least a bit - roleplay on the server.

Wouldn't that be a task for the SA Labs/Cambridge - Sirius Technology Survailance Department ?
A comparision table of the available ships, perhaps supplemented by a assesment of their "worthness" for alien space ?

    And for understanding:

steering_torque = 24000.000000, 24000.000000, 58000.000000.....................roughly : the "force" you "use" on moving your mouse indicator <=> more means more "steering force" applied to your ship
angular_drag = 15000.000000, 15000.000000, 35000.000000........................roughly : no clear idea 8| how this works but so far <=> less means much easier steering
rotation_inertia = 2800.000000, 2800.000000, 1000.000000.........................roughly : as named: the "inertia" of yout ship against your efforts to steer <=> more means more "sluggish"

first value : movement around x-axis <=> "pitch",
second value : movement around y-axis <=> "yawn"
third value : movement around z-axis <=> "roll"

There is kind of a "formula", that sets the three values above in relation each other and to the ship mass, but unfortunatly it's AAAGES, since I read it and unfortunatly I didn't kept a copy of it
    Now I don't know anymore WHERE I found that :( .
But perhaps the more than capable R&D of SA might figure it out.

    nudge_force = 30000.000000
    strafe_force = 20000
    strafe_power_usage = 2

I don't know, if these values are really important for a comparision, since - at least for the fighters of CF - they are always the same.

    + values of the engine
3 secs for "loading" cruise speed each engine (accsessable for NON-admin players) in the game.
The "rest" ( top speed ) a quick test, or perhaps a survey through the players community ?

I'm quite sure, that some of the not so central shipyards may sponsor the publishing of such a comprehensive "Jane's of Crossfire", when allowes to advertise a bit. ;)

P.S.: Any corrections/comments on errors on my "findings" are welcome.

...... I don't mind hacking/tweaking the game - but it feels like cheating - but rather at the moment it's necessary just to do some of the missions or to avoid the pain of countless hours and sore wrist/arm shooting at npc's that are just unbalanced ;)

Tstststs, haven't you read the "legal disclaimer" on installation ??

    @ OP:
    "is it balanced?

yes..................................................................obviously debatable to quite some people

    is it hard?

depends on your skill (i am actually out of the game but manage to kill 10 fighters in NY in less than 10mins)
.....................................................................with an Eagle and class 10 weaps - sure ! But NOT in a Starflier or Liberty Patriot with stock weapons available there.

are the NPCs in NY hard?

nope - but you didnt fight NPCs in other areas yet.................now, THAT'S absolutly agreeable.

do NPCS use too many bots/bats

actually no - every human player can use bats/bots so why in gods name shouldnt NPCs have the same right?
....................................................................if they had the same bots and bats - you're right. But actually : the NPCs recover their shields on SP up to full even if no batteries are in their berth anymore, on the server up to half full, their hull recovers even without the use of bots, faster on SP a bit slower on the server ( but there they got their "special flying abilities" ).

So again : is it balanced?...........................................................debatable

    @ Griff_en :
"OP would have an idea of what the attrition rate with new players is for
MP and I would suggest that its probably a lot worse in SP where you
cant ask anyone for advise or hear from experienced players that it gets
better. SP is how I had my first taste of CF (and I suspect that's the
case with most people) though I soon started playing somewhat
concurrently with MP. If I hadn't discovered the Custodian gate by
chance near Rochester (only because I made a habit of getting a better
thruster the first chance I could) CF would of been history ..
    uninstalled
    ."

Last year about the same time was quite a discussion, why there are sooo many registrations and downloads of CF, but not as much players on the server ???

Still not much more players than last year.

It's true in both MP and SP money for next level is increased and NPC's are shithard, mainly coming from the fact which states in the README:

So yeah, some people have been asking about the $$$ needed for the next level and its basically Crossfire mod which makes SP more challenging and all.. Although i too had to fight 30 minutes on 1 mission and trading was no fun on SP, so i went back to MP

But even harder on the server. (Take some "training" with the server-npc's. When you get pissed of by them, go back to SP : NOW MUCH EASIER ! :D. And NEVER EVER try to fight them on par (aka Starflier against Starflier) )

After you've done the "Ascroft"-mission, SP will be much "faster", since you can trade the only really interesting "good" of CF : rescue-PODs to the prisons in Texas.
Until then, trading - even if a bit dull, if you don't have a good black-market trade in New York (but MUCH less pirates (also MUCH less pirates at all on SP, you have to go to their bases to hunt them down) disturbing you) - is the best way to get the first 250k $ you need for next level.

You also can take some advantage of the fact that ALL gates and jumpholes behind Liberty-space are working on level 2. And Custodian-gate near Rochester IS open all the time.

But the choice - MP or SP - is yours alone.

Doing SP doesn't really "trains" you, for what you have to encounter on the server ( totally freaky npcs, perhaps even freakier RP-pirates and -cops (if you plan to go on pirating or smuggling) ;) )
There IS definitly a surplus-value of going MP (yeah, it's me NucNuc who admits that) in meeting/fighting/co-op-playing with the freaky guys, I've mentioned just above :D . You will also be better able to follow and understand all of the other discussions and threads here on the forum, what's sometimes even more fun. ;)

    Yeah !

Fastest engine of the whole CF-Universe with no-cruisespeed-buildup-lag, almost unlimited power (well, not really, but enough power not to be used up on firing all your guns for a REALLY long time).

But that's what an admin needs to test out alien races and eventually server-rulebreakers.

Or the camera resolution of the spaceprobe, that made the picture you derived the texture from.

    Great work anyway.

Your chars are stored on the server and will stay there until a nuclear bomb EMP-pulse during the 3rd world war will delete them.

Or a char wipe before installation of the next CF version on the server. But probably not even that has to happen, thanks to OPs hard work.

But another advice : you canNOT just disable CF in FLMM, and switch to another mod or FL original. In that respect CF is very demanding. If you disable CF in FLMM your original FL-installation will NOT work.

The usual procedure : Deinstall everything related to Freelancer (perhaps save your gamesaves at another place), then reinstall. So far the FL-mods I've tried, only CF needs this procedure.

Anyway. Your char on the server will still be there when you return :) .

aahm... Sorry. A one question about wreks:
    Are they working now?
I was a "liitle" confused that they was not working several weeks ago :(

Most likely the wreck you were after was already plundered by someone else.

After next serverside restart (next day) it will be "filled up" again.

@ Huor : " All your comments were mostly funny to follow."

Definitly agree on that. No other commentor/spammer around cumming near your mastership on that 8). .
What else to expect from someone, who lives in the trashiest city of Europe with folks around that make ( and actually DRINK ) rasberry flavoured beer. :D

@....:"The balance in this game is far from being optimal ...................................................................."

THIS from a crossfire "BigWig" like you !
    Perhaps/hopefully might move something.
