dude, if you want peace on earth don't be a hypocrite. People don't dislike you because you're an American...just because you're a jack...of all trades :P. There are lots of Americans on CF and people generally have a better impression :P.

If you want peace on earth that means drawing a line and replacing resentment with empathy and you're there, it's very simple.

You have to give people a chance in order for people to give you a chance... We are not here to act as we do in real life, we come here to roleplay. Within Roleplay, we can be whoever we want, act in what way we want (as long as we respect the rules).

...while looks are important, they're not as important as you may think. While we perceive simetrical faces and bodies to be beautiful, there's more to it than that...there's a lot of pheromone stuff and most of all psychological stuff involved. Here are some examples of people known to be geniuses of manipulation despite their looks:

Giacomo Cassanova -> famous womanizer, he was chubby, bald and not known for his good looks but for his great understanding (and use) of norms and customs of the European social life in the 18th Century (which is a fancy way of saying that he pretty much had almost all of the people around him in his pocket, especially the women).

Adolf Hitler -> famous speaker (there are accounts of women having spontaneous orgasms during his speaches), he had neither good looks nor health on his side but he manipulated alot of people (including Neville Chamberline)

Look at every politician (successful politicians...and definitely not Romanian ones :) ) how they behave and how they pay special attention to their gestures. Behind their behavior there is a group of people that teaches them how to behave and that analyse their behavior and try to optimise it (from things like how do you approach a man to shake his hand in order to look superior to him to things like how to better modulate your voice in order to create an impression on the audience). Politicians that are good looking (ex. Clinton, JFK, Reagan) have more chances to win but that does not guarantee a success, it is only a bonus.

P.S Arrow - "the fittest" does not always mean the one which is the strongest or that has the qualities that are most desired. The fittest can be one that better understands the way his mates perceive one another and how to best take advantage of that in order to "artificially" maximize his qualities. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/f…alth&spon=&pagewanted=all

Spiky mate, don't be mean...how can you say that ALL the people wearing glasses inside the house are douchebags?!?!?

Crysis, I know that you're a good sport but please belive me when I say that...the less you act like you have something to prove, the more chances you have to impress and get noticed by the people you will actually need. when you are attracting attention on yourself by acting in the above-mentioned way, the chances of attracting negative criticism are just as high as the ones atrracting useless (and often times worthless) people. + you get to observe people more and use that to your advantage.

P.S If you want to get the girls (and get a big advantage over others), forget the glasses, the money, the bling or the attitude. Read THIS and THIS. You can get them and alot of other books for free HERE.

It's good to see that new ideas are welcomed and improved on in a creative way...it would be nice to make a habbit out of this :D

Maybe Picard should dock first and then go afk, or ctrl-alt-del. The game is not for people going afk but for playing. If playing is the rule and other stuff the exception, I don't see what would be the problem with Cro's idea.

P.S Sorry Picard, your name just came up...

    @Cro
It would be a splendid idea if there would be a lawful and a lawless "black list". One could be simply called "Death-wish list" and target lawful players (or NPCs) and one "Sirius' Most Wanted list" that could target lawless players (and NPCs). The RP idea is cool but there would be some problems with it:

    1. What do you use it for? How can you maintain the order in which each point on the "black list" has to come...as in CF you can engage anyone.
    2. There would be considerable effort in managing this stuff.
    3. What do you do when a player stops playig for a long time?
    4. Some egos around this place are very big...even if in reality it's a small matter, it would still be a problem.

Other than that I cannot think of anything right now. Aside that, I think it's a good idea that if polished a little at the edges could prove an asset to CF...if it is met with constructive criticism and further developed...which is less likely to happen around here...

    so, good luck with that...

I think that it's numbers that we have to worry about...If Diablo does this with 10 noobs out of which probably 2 or none will remain on CF. Moreover, they will certainly spread the word that CF is full of a-holes. I know that every publicity is good publicity but this ain't the case. Wouldn't it be better to save any complications and the disk space of 1000 pages of flames in posts and just apply the rules and give him a ban each time a complaint and evidence of such an act is submited?
If he takes on noobs like that and shows no respect for the rules and the community why the hell is he even worth these posts?

    Nice mates...Abras, nice bike :D I've got a Virago myself :D

-> That's me, on the far left near the door. This is an older picture from when I tried to blow up the Parliment, I had short hair then...But I've come a long way since that time. I am now a more mature and responsible person :)

    @Op

The conflict between SA and PX was purely a RP one. Taking in acount the CF environment and the past troubles (and ghosts of X-mas past) it was only foreseable that a RP event would tend to aggravate to something distructive rather than constructive RP but it's not the case. If this risk is not taken with each RP conflict, well enforcing a conflictless policy on CF would be, in my opinion, even more destructive for the server than a clan war.

Even if there were some problems with the "warrant" concept, which was a very new one (as it spawned) at that time and was not properly polished and finished things worked out ok. SA and PX made RP out of it, the Warrant ended after 24 hours and we took it as a "test run", ofc we did our own RP in response to it, with the bounty contract we posted.

While SA, CFPD, BG, UR and PX players were fighting it RP-style in space, SA Arrow and me were talking behind the curtains, making sure that we communicated clearly so that no missunderstandings would occur (with the flaming of the threads we opened but that's beside the point here, we managed to work things out even despite that). It all remained within RP, from our point of view (and I think from the SA one too but I'll let Arrow comment on that) but not only that, we started to work on the "Warrant" concept, taking in accout past lessons.

From this RP Conflict between SA and PX (Conflicts are good as long as they remain RP...otherwise it would be boring as hell) the following consequences have spawned (from our point of view):

    - SA and PX did some good RP and animated the CF environment (which as of late was quite dull as I understand)
    - SA strenghtened its ties with the other Police Clans
    - an older "warrant" concept has re-emerged, in order for it to be improved by us, while each adding something to it in order to make it a viable and constructive one
    - we have all learned that any conflict, regardless if it originates from RP or RL stuff, it can always be kept or transformed to RP if there is a will to do so

The next step for Arrow and me would be to make a project out of the "Warrant" concept and present it to the leader board for approval by voting (no more commenting on it because we all know how that turned out). If it would be rejected then we would expect advices or proposals -on that subject- via pm.

I think that all of these are in the benefit of CF. I agree that this could have ended alot worse but that's always a chance when conflicts are involved...given the account the CF environment, I'd say that this one turned out pretty good from the points of view that I relayed.

It's not that error that could could just dismiss by pressing "ok, ignore and continue" option...it is more like a "fatal error".

Later EDIT: Re-installed driver, problem solved.
Specs:

    Asus 5620, Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5 Ghz, 667 mhz FSB, 2 mb L2 cache
252 Mb Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    1 Gb DDR2

    Problem:

I uninstall and erase everything relating to CF and FL, then proceed with a clean installation of FL, FLMM and CF. FL plays ok, there's no prob. Activate CF from FLMM (and check the option "Old graphic cards")and then the loader comes up, it updates itself, I hit Multiplayer and then I get a black screen with the following error:

"Freelancer did not detect a capable 3d videocard on your system. Restart or reinstal the game."

Restarted, nothing changed. Re-installed the game and no change.

    Question:

How can I get past that?

    @ Arrow

We can always talk things out the civilised way, mate. The important thing is that you are open to it an we are too, despite other interventions...

    1. About the jurisdiction thing:

    - Space does not neccessarily need to be split even in 5...This jurisdiction thing, this warrant thing and police alliance stuff is meant to work as a whole so:
RP can be greatly enhanced by:

    - boosting up police power (while assuring no abuse is made)
    - contributing to balancing the server by setting better conditions for lawless clans to emerge (we do have a shortage of unlawful entities...)
    - giving police clans the ability to actively contribute to balancing the server by chosing to enforce harsher punishments on criminals or not (this + their boosted power and freedom to engage in combat)

with this in mind, jurisdiction can happen this way:
    - each police clan choses their system + let's say other 10
    - the accent is put on individual jurisdiction areas (that can be patroled by either just the owning clan or other police clans as a result of an understanding) or joint jurisdictiona areas (like for instance some areas of Altair)
This way the RP will be enhanced because it's more territory to patrol and enforce the law in. (Greater liberty to engage and to maintain a KoS in the "owned" systems) (ie. if you can maintain a KoS for maximum a week, in the "owned" systems you could maintain it for max. 2 or 3 or even a month. The only thing is that the systems would have to form a general area, a cluster...a wider, compact area instead of a multi coloured puzzle...

    2. About the Jail thing and the interdependent relationship with Jurisdiction:

There could be a sanction for "breaking out", as I said before. In remember that there is some tool that records the presence of players in a system, like the one that shows you who is online and in what system he/she is. Police could use that to see if the player exited the system by choosing a "jail" in a dead-end system and looking in its neighbouring system for any activity of that player.
If the criminal breaks out and does not serve a full sentence, then another warrant could be issued for twice or thrice the period of time of the original one, a bigger fine also imposed OR an even more lenghtier KoS -maybe even a month- (to be enforced only within the individual jurisdiction systems of that Police Clan, not the Joint Jurisdiction areas). In the event that 2 police clans have an uderstanding to let each other "hunt criminals" within their Individual Jurisdiction Systems then it should be A-OK and the area within which you could KoS the criminal gets bigger.
This does not mean that people cannot RP normally (but within certain limits as KoS and engagement goes) in the Joint Jurisdiction areas...

We can make this into something very BIG and very beneficial for our environment :D.
