I have been trying out the Raptor recently, and I find it has good agility, it is a very tiny (small target + more concentrated fire)... armor is a beat weak, but it is good to train evasive manouvers
Also, it is less common than the shroud! (although shroud really looks great I admit)But so many ships to choose from! Still have to make up my mind for my main character....
Probably easier to try out ships in Open SP though... where you can save before purshasing hihihi-Faaby-

Will do as soon as I have access to that part of the forum ORION

Call sign: FAABY
Age: 31
Sex: Female
Birth Place: Planet Manhattan, New York SystemSTORY:
"This is it, I have finally graduated from military school and earned Lieutenant rank as Liberty military soldier"
Yes, I do recall that day, the long relief after many years passed through training at West Point station... The sacrifices
made were not in vain, and deep within myself I knew the time had come to fullfill my destiny...I still have those nightmares, and I often wake up in the middle of the night sweating, the throat irritated from holding a scream.
I do not think I will ever totally get through the loss of my parents and my little brother... Rumors said they were ambushed by some unknown
race while on a trading mission, but that was all I could find out from my West Point trainer. I knew it was not the first time such rumors spread,
and it probably would not be the last either. I tried to keep away my pain and anger, so I could focus on achieving my military training, which was far
from being easy believe me. I did not give up, but always had a part of me looking for revenge, overwhelmed by the desire of finding clues of what had
really happened to my family. I knew though I had to graduate if I ever wanted to have a chance to succeed... which finally happened.I owned my Liberty military police license now, and emptied my bank account to purshase my own ship.
That Starflier ship I was able to find would not get me far but it was at least a good start.
I finally left Planet Manhattan and immediately started looking for clues on the identity of my parent's assassins.
I started exploring surrounding systems, getting access to new jumpgates from bars in various (more or less recommendable) stations and planets.
To keep my ship maintained with ammo and fuel, I started accepting missions which lead me every time a bit farther and farther in my exploration. One day, I was in the omicron area, flying inside the Eagle I was able to trade from the GMG faction (which I try to keep in good terms), when I litterally
ran into this huge hypergate. I gathered my courage and decided to cross it... It was a chance for me to learn more about eventual unknown races as this place
had never been reported in any navigational map.
Where I ended up trully shocked me... Debris, Hypergates everywhere, and odd ships navigating all over. I located this small planet called Crossfire and seeing life
presence I decided to land on it. I was surprised to meet very skilled and experienced pilots in bars. I learned much about this new world to me and its dangers.
Eventually, I met with other police military pilots and tought me about threats towards our colonies. It remained me some history books passages reguarding the
war Sirius faced against nomads a long time ago (don't we all know the role Trent and Junko'Zane played to end this war?)...
The threat seems this time much stronger and lethal, but I know I am not alone to face it.
My feelings of revenge suddently came pale compared to what was about to happen to humanity.Fortunately, I was contacted by a group called "Silver Arrows". They seemed to have the same worries than I, but were willing to organize themselves to do something
about it. I was brought in their home station in Omega 3 for discussions, and I ended up joining their ideals and gaining their friendship. Suddently, their leader opened
a window from the station and was I saw kept me ajar... "We are currently supervising this gate to protect the colonies" he told me with a cold voice, "We need your help
with this task, as we are trying to explore what lies ahead of us to identify the threat".
We ended up making a deal which would allow me to join their forces to prevent an invasion, while trying to keep secret to humans the upcoming dangers should we fail...
I was sure of one thing though: I was about to find out what had happened to my family...-To be continued-
Lady Elodie Vox,
AKA FAABY -
Even in defeat, one can be proud of his national team as long as it gives its best.
That is when i ran away with shame, when I saw French team behavior...
Well, at least the whole world got a good laugh at us for the soap show LOL-Faaby-

Good choice Faaby, these guys really need a team mother...you make sure they clean up their ships after their patrols, you hear.
But do not count on me to do the dishes!!!!!!!!!!
I am at the moment starting to write down my first steps into MP crossfire (RP story)... please be patient

Thank you very much SWAT_OP-R8R

I am currently working on building it!
Not enough history background in MP yet to talk about
Will see about that when I'll have progressed some hehe-Faaby-

Thank you SWAT_OP-R8R,
Although this is definitively not a high priority bug to me (which I had hoped I could solve by myself without bothering anyone lol), so do not screw up your week-end for this!
-Faaby-

I have noticed the same "bug" for me on my french version game (not that it matters much to me though)
Would it bug the crossfire mod if i reintalled Freelancer alone to see if it fixes anything?
If so, I won't bother!-Faaby-

Thank you gentlemen for your precious help
Things are clearer now, and I know where I am going now (more precisely: I know where I am NOT going to go! - just yet
)

SA_ARROW, I will check on that,
maybe I can do something a little more evolved and detailed, but I do not mind, if you think it might interest some peopleQuote
Quoted from "uncleglennie"
Maybe we can start our own clan, called "The Orbs of Barbie" and get fashion tips from Spiky.I am all set, I've just got back my pink eagle !
-Faaby-
P-S: I am bit puzzled by the online leveling system: is it based on money (I seem to lose levels when buying things), or kills (same when I die), or a mix?
-
Thank you all for your warm welcome
I have reinstalled Freelancer on the computer with the main internet connection, and playing online seems now opened to me.
I think i'll be spending some time to redo my in-game map while making some experience.
It will probably take me a while to get set for deep exploring, but there is no hurry, right?I am looking forward to see you all around in any case
-Faaby-
P-S: and I have to get used to the chat commands LOL

Grrrrrr.... I get blabling... and I almost forgot SWAT_OP-R8R was not the only one to put time and effort
into building Crossfire!Unfortunately, I am unable to make a full list of everyone (specially I surely do not know everyone!) between the development team (SWAT team?),
the web site team, and everyone who got involved into making and maintening this mod and community running.
I can only hope they will recognize themselves, and accept my thanks as well (and forgive me for my forgetness!)-Faaby-

Greetings to all,
Although this is my first post, I have been wandering around for a while now.
I have been a crossfire player since I first heard of crossfire 1.7, but being a SP player only,
I never really felt comfortable to introduce myself here seeing there are mainly MP players, knowing i'd never see them online
(which is a pretty lame excuse I must admit LOL).Still, there is something unforgivable I have done, that I must see repared:
I just wanted to deeply thank SWAT_OP-R8R for coming up with this magnificent freelancer mod.
I remember reading on the boards the troubles he came up building Crossfire 1.8, seeming desperate at times,
even on the verge of giving up at others, feeling lonely, and the fear of spending years of work for a lost cause
(unless I have read the boards wrong?)
But you did not give up... and the result is just incredible (and I trully hope you find yourself it was worthy in the end). Now it seems to me I do have to say a (edit: errr... a long long long) word about myself (but you can skip if bored!
)
I have been playing Crossfire in SP mode since 2006, enjoying the exploration and the challenge (even if by then, it
meant "cursing at my computer"). I am not a very good player with only basic technic combat skills, but still the vanilla game
campain was ended shortly and i quickly found myself turning in cercles afterwards. Wandering on the net a while after, I came upon
this "Crossfire mod" and decided to give it a try in Open SP to see if it could raise up my interest into Freelancer.
It was hard!
I was expecting challenge, but the NPCs shield and hull regeneration rate seemed too much for me at first. Everything was expensive, and doing missions
to gain credits took hours, even if I eventually found out prisons helped a lot in the process. I trully wondered how I could progress enough to be tough enough
to dare venture new areas. I searched for a decent ship for a low level, wondering where all those new ships were hidden! Most of the ones I found cost hell and had
level restrictions. I ended up laying my hand on a Walkyrie (those where in my range), somehow a bit disapointed: Would I ever get something new?
I did not give up though, and missions were doable now at least (even if it still took me a long time to face 3-4 NPCs).Slowly I gathered upgrades from all over vanilla areas,
and thought it was time for me to start fully enjoying this mod. I started the quests, and I must admit I had fun trying to find clues while exploring new systems. I eventually ended
up trying a whole bunch of new starships, landing on Earth (very exciting moment!), losing myself in the numerous nomad words, saying a quick "Hi" to DKs (not daring going too far though), and last but not least, merging back to the Starlancer environment (I still play that game too!), which i think is a great way to honor it! To my opinion, the vanilla game lacked references to Starlancer even though it was supposed to be the sequel (just a vague allusion during the intro). After months of exploring (always with wide eyes!), I come across a different problem. I still have many areas to discover, but I feel I have reached what I can reasonably do by myself,
and come to a fatal conclusion: either I am not skilled enough, either my equipment is too limited (even though I picked up all I could find, going from the lvl10 shield to DKa guns), but I keep dying trying to go deeper into new spaces.
This is why i am now considering trying to play MP (even if it means starting all over again). I have made a few shots but my ping isn't really great (around 140), and the lag makes it hard.
But... I am not giving up...
So hopefully, maybe I'll finally get the chance to meet you all some time, at the corner of a bar...Till then, fly straight!
<bow>-Faaby-
P-S: Thank you again SWAT_OP-R8R for the joy you brought and still bring to me playing Freelancer!
P-P-S: Sorry for that long thread!
