It's good that you bring this up, Kalisie. The thing I want to do is to dissociate players and characters. We have to get them to get along as players, and yet keep the RP aspect at the same time. It's a little difficult for me to explain exactly what I want.

Basically, cops and pirates, aren't supposed to get along according to RP. However, if the players behind these cops and pirates hate each other because of the RP, that's the major problem. That is why, even if we mix up the teams in an event, for example, it won't solve the problem. They'll work together for the duration of the event and then go back to killing each other.

There is a lack of communication, and some people take things personally. They see someone attacking them and they immediately want revenge. And then they start hunting for the wrong reasons.

When RP is involved, it needs to be clear that if a pirate opens fire on a cop, or vice versa, its part of the RP, and all meant in good fun and contribution to said RP. The rest of the time, when RP isn't involved, people should still be able to get along, and work together.

I know I'm just writing text and not putting down any concrete ideas, but I'm starting to see a bigger picture here and trying to bring it into focus. Then I'll start laying down ideas.

This will take time, and the reconstruction of the community on the new ideas we can come up with in this very thread is the key to the survival of this mod. Mark my words: KEY to the survival of this mod. If everyone gives up now, OP will simply shrug off his project and we'll be left with an empty server.

We have 3 weeks and counting.

I just came back to the community, excited to see everyone again, only to find that the place has been deserted? I haven't been around in 8 months, so I haven't kept up with recent events, but for crying out loud, this crap was happening back then too, why is it that now everyone gives up?

The main problem I see is that most people don't seem to understand the line between Roleplay, and actual life. Now, the game promotes RP with lots of events, and licenses, and clans are formed around this. We have Mercs, Pirates, Cops, Freelancers, all in one universe. But RPing is not fun *all* the time. I remember back in 1.6 playing with people who could draw a line at some point.

What I intend to say is, we need to stop taking things too seriously. Or rather, we need to be more serious about some things, and less about other things. For instance, we should make a clear separation of RP, and actual life. By that I mean, no matter what you play in game, don't let that get in the way of making friends. And don't let real life issues meld with the game. What happens then is that the actual players behind the pirates, and cops, can't get along. Either because they think the other is holding a grudge against them for shooting them all the time, or they start chasing pirates for the wrong reasons.

If you start to attack a player, rather than his/her character, then you're playing the game wrong. I don't chase a pirate because I hate the player, I chase him because he's a pirate. But there are some who have blurred the line, and they think that because they are playing a character, they can do whatever the hell they want.

We need to start being more mature about this. I fear that 1.8 is not going to see the light of day otherwise.

Of course, actions speak louder than words. So what I propose is that we start to define some boundaries about RP. We should have a time for RP, and a time for fun. And if players don't want to have the RP, then we should not shun them, but rather leave them be Freelancers. Also, something should be done about the creation of clans. Instead of seeing new clans appear when a player ditches their old clan, we should have those people cool off and play as Freelancers.

Me personally, I'd sometimes like to put the badge away and just trade to make some money, instead of chasing every pirate I come across. I'd also like to be able to not get attacked by every damn pirate. Of course, even if it is nothing personal, there is still something annoying about getting blown in mid-space.

I remember doing Hyperspace runs with LPs, and Miles Noxis. Back then I was CFPD, and we got along. They have good players who are also nice people, and they also want peace from all the usual kill-kill-tax-chase-kill-tax... etc.

Even recently, with not many players online, I passed some Fallen members whilst trading between New Berlin and Stuttgart, not once did I get attacked or taxed, just because we put the RP aside for a moment. I think this is what a lot of players want.

So again, maybe have less RP, or more oriented RP, so that we can also have a time for just good fun no matter the license on the ship ahead of you, or the clantag. Heck I feel like we're being racist, except we're talking about players not getting along because of factions. (And by players I mean the actual people behind the characters).

Of course there are people who just want to stir shit up and cause trouble. Those people should be dealt with severly. I don't know how good OP's system is for IP scanning and then banning, but we shouldn't have to put up with those players. Because, like someone said in a thread I read recently: Look at the Discovery mod, they have strict rules, but people take things seriously and any troublemakers get banned almost immediately. And they have a full server.

Whew, that was a mouthful. But hey it's been 8 months, and now's the perfect time to really put the cards on the table and see what we're dealing with. If OP is reading the forums, I hope he sees that there *are* people who want to save the server.

Yeah, I noticed that the server *was* online, its just weird that the game sort of stays at the Internet Servers window and the CF server never appears. Before I never had a problem. I would connect to the servers and the CF server would appear after 5 seconds. Now I can leave it open for 10 mins and nothing will happen... Maybe I have a program running in the background that prevents the game from connecting?

Oh hi... Nice to meet you too...

Well I know the "Global Servers" have been down for a loooong time, its just that the game keeps saying that. Normally when there is something wrong with the connection you get an error message, but I don't get anything, it just sits there.

Also, I doubt the server is down seeing as there are currently 3 people playing right now (4 at the time I first posted this thread).

So what's up? Did everyone leave? Did OP take down the server? Is it being used to beta test 1.8? I'd like some (useful) answers. :D

    Hey everyone,

I recently came back to the forums and saw a lot of activity, some positive and some less positive, but anyways seems this community is still alive so I thought I'd get back into the game! :D

So I started the client, let it patch, and when I went to connect to the server, it wasn't there. Or at least, it seems the game can't connect to the global servers, it just keeps showing "Connecting to Global Servers..." but nothing happens. I just did a clean reinstall, and installed the 1.7a patch too, just in case, but that didn't help. T_T

Is there anything I should know about the server? Did OP change the method of connection? Is the server down? (I noticed OP wasn't too happy about some stuff in his recent posts).

    I'd like to get an Sit-Rep. ;)

    Cya soon in space,

    [SFP]Lone Renegade

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

    to the following people:

    Arvedui!
    Gunny!
    MarcBomber!

Happy Birthday, mates, and may you stay with us for a loooong time still. :D

I reckon we should organize a Birthday party in Sovetskaya, and that BG bring some whiskey along. I'm willing to provide a train to deliver the goods, if someone is ready to provide an APC to stock up and a fighter to escort. :D

I hope to see many of you there! :D:D

I would love to see new ships, because then we can finally see diversity in what players fly. Before there was a trend where everyone flew a Shroud, now its the Lagg, or the Saracen. People will mostly fly the same ship if its considered the best. I say, if we add more ships, then players might try out new ships and find one that they enjoy flying. Without everyone flying the same ship.

I will get myself an Argon if it is ever implemented into the game ^^.

    Hello fellow FL players!

Many of you might not remember me, last time I was on was almost a year ago now, and I've decided to come back. I've noticed a few changes, too. I heard CFPD disbanded (damn), and that Rover passed away (R.I.P. he was a good clan member... :( ).

So, I wasn't the most popular player, but anyways, thought I'd let you know I showed up again. My characters will probably have gone missing again since whenever you reinstall the game it changes the FLID (and I have no idea how to save it...)

Anyhow, Lone_Renegade is back in action, CFPD or not, I guess I'll just join another police force. :P

See you all in space. :)

    Lt.Col. Lone Renegade out.

That was the gist of my previous post, but to be honest I couldn't have said it any better myself, OP. :))

Wow, I just read the whole thread... It's amazing how little it takes for the community to get out of hand. I wonder why it's so difficult for us to keep up Roleplay without causing all sorts of trouble. Everyone's been on the edge for some time now. Why all the hatred? Why the grudges that never end? The senseless killings?

I say we should add to the game rules: "Please leave your personal issues at the entrance, drop your prejudice, and put on a smile. Then you may enter."

The reason I left CF some time ago was because the community was starting to boil with anger. What happened after I left, I don't know, but if there is one thing I am now certain of, it's that time won't solve our problems. If everbody waited for something to solve itself, then nothing would be done, no one would be happy, and all hell would break loose again.

So now we really need to cut the crap, and turn to each other, to figure out a sensible way to solve all of this. We can't rely on OP alone to solve things. He hasn't got the time nor the patience to carry this out. It's time we face our responsibilities and really start clean.

For this we will need time, but we need everybody's help. I say everyone deletes their screenshots. Get rid of that Crossfire Shots directory. That's a first step towards a clean start. We need to forget what has happened in the past, and we need to look to the future. Why? Because otherwise grudges will remain and even after we rebuild, one day someone will make a comment, which might lead to some wounds to open again. Others might start to poke that wound, whilst others try to cover it up. And it will be like this all over again.

At the moment I can't really be on, since school has started again, and I kinda got tired of CF, so I am playing other games. But if I see progress is being made, then I will come to lend a helping hand. We need to get someone to start that cleanup. If no one volunteers, then I will take on that responsibility, but I will not be doing the work alone. I want everybody's support on this!

    See you in space,

    Lone_Renegade, out.

My problem with the train is solved! I just had to buy another ship, launch, land, and then I could buy a new train. And now I have the normal train again.

But now my problem is, I bought the Coalition bribe in Sol, but when I did that, the server was undergoing some testing. I think the game only registered the fact that I paid for the bribe, subtracted the amount from my savings, but then that was it. The Coalition hasn't been added to my factions list, let alone made friendly. I just wonder now: if I go to Altair, will I get attacked by the Coalition? Because I can't buy the bribe again...

Eh okay I just came back from the server. Dopp told me you are testing something OP??

Anyways, its weird because as soon as someone takes off from a planet, a station or anywhere else, they get kicked from the server. :D

    Edit:

Okay it appears it only affected me and my train, currently stationed in Sol. I think I know what's wrong.

Today, I bought a Power Generator on my way back from New Berlin for one of my chars. When I bought it, it got mounted automatically, but it wasnt for me, it was for my other ship, so I unmounted it, to store for later...

And that's what caused everything to go wrong. I was now stuck on the planet, unable to take off without a power plant. Now the game thought I didnt have a power plant anymore.

So I mounted it again, and launched. I now didnt have unlimited power. I could only use my thrusters for a limited amount of time, and eventually, shooting my turrets would deplete my energy. That never happened before.

So now I go to Sol, to buy a new Train, thinking it might fix the problem. But I leave it until later. I come back this evening, after something on the server has changed. Now the game thinks I'm cheating if I buy a new ship and try to launch with it. I get kicked, and when I come back on its as though I had never bought that ship.

I am stuck on Sol without a power plant. I can't launch, I can't buy a new ship, I can't rebuy the power plant because now its gone.

Oh and also, I bought the Coalition bribe in Sol... Turns out I got 3.1 million stolen and the Coalition isn't in my list of factions. But the game thinks I bought it so now I can't buy it again!!!

Yeah sorry I had to make it that long, but its hard to explain otherwise. Now though, I don't know what to do. The game obviously kicks me because I am "cheating", trying to buy a new ship with an infinite power plant... Or something else changed, but whatever it is its preventing me to launch, and its annoying.

Luckily, all my other chars are fine.

What the hell?? I'm still here too!

Next time, before you tear a clan to shreads, care to warn before you do so? [3] [/rant]

Okay so... Who's willing to accept me into their clan?

IOC, can I join you guys? :D

If you check the specs on them, they provide additional armor . They are there to protect the cargo, better than if you were just shipping them without the cargo pods.
