    As I have not advised you of any progress with the database, some of you may have wondered what has been going on.

    Foolishly I decided that it was only partially complete, as it was missing information on ships and equipment. I have spent the time since my last post, adding this information. The database is now 99% finished, but as 1.6 is released this week, it has been decided to wait until this new information is added, before beta testing the results. This is to allow for further testing of the accuracy of the information, as well as find my unintended features (mistakes). It should also permit me to make minor adjustments in the aesthetics, when located in its intended home, the SWAT Portal site.

    Due to the impending release of the new Crossfire 1.6 Mod, the Big Race has been cancelled for one week only.

    My apologies to race fans, but the event will be held next week.

    PiA_JtaK

    I could be available most of Thursday and all of Friday if required for testing (and the weekend).

    I could also use this time to update the Crossfire Database with the new entries.

    I will leave the decision in your hands Op, which ever is the best use of the resources available.

    I will try to grab you on MSN to discuss.

    Here are the results of the Big Race held tonight.

    1st Race - Konrad_Kurze
    2nd Race - Alien
    3rd Race - Konrad_Kurze

    Thank you to all that took part, see you again next week.

    @PC As I see it, the problem is more complex than that.

    I have taken over running the Big Race, I have not missed a week since January. Yet in that time the race has only run on probably 50% of the nights, why? Because only 1 or 2 people have shown up. This is despite the best efforts of the SP to advise people of its running. Just last week I tried to get the Trade Assault running, in Darks unavoidable absence. As you know there were only 3 people willing to participate (because you were one of the 3).

    It is heartbreaking to turn up to organise an event, and find you do not have anyone who wishes to participate. Equally it is frustrating to turn up to an event and find that there is no one to manage it. The problem lies with the numbers of people on the server, which is going through one of its periodic quiet patches.

    I would like to see a review of the events preferably before 1.6, as I think we need to do work on a few of them, both to keep people interested, and hook more of the new people who will arrive in droves once the mod is released. I would offer as a candidate for review the Big Race, which needs a serious make over.

    <CTA>KOS(Cmdr.)Kido - I dont wish to be unhelpful, but we need to get the 6 events we have working, before introducing new ones. If one or two (like the Big Race) are not working, then they should be re worked or replaced. I do however like your suggestion.

    I am pleased to advise the community, that Phase II of the Database project is now complete. I have moved all the data from the explorers reports into HTML format. The project will now split, with Op working on the additional information for the 1.6 Mod, and I will work on the aesthetics. (Must get Dark to lend me his crayons)

    I should like to thank all of you who offered to help with this tedious work, and in particular Gunny and Blade, who gave support and encouragement throughout this long process.

    The Big Race 9th March 2006 Results

    There was a very good crowd in tonight, my thanks to all those who took part. We used the full rules, which meant 2 heats, and a Grand Final. Gunny very kindly donated 30m, which resulted in a bumper payout.

    First Race
    Winner Petrus 25m
    Second

    Second Race
    Winner Striker 25m
    Second Tanatos 15m

    Grand Final
    Winner Striker 50m
    Second Tanatos 25m

    One or two players could not compete due to server lag, my commiserations to them.

    I hope to see all racers again next week.

    The Big Race will be held tonight in the Colosium.

    There are big cash prizes available, totaling 105m. New players especially welcome.

    The competition is open to all, you only need a maneuverable ship capable of cruise, and the willingness to have a go. This is one of the few events were the level 1 pilots can humble the level 90.

    For the rules, please see my posts above, I will go through them and answer any questions before you race.

    Please meet me in the arena at 1945, for a 2000 prompt start. If you are going to be late, please send me a message in game, as more racers = more fun, and with the agreement of the other racers, we may delay the start. With 3 races to enter, if you miss one, you can still enter a later one.

    I look forward to seeing you all there.

    @OP, my apologies, you are quite right, will not happen again

    I am delighted to announce that the mapping phase of the database project is now complete. I would like to extend a big thank you to all those who helped, and I will if I may, publish their names in alphabetic order below.

    Centaurian, DC_Haegar, DC_Thuban, Fitter55, Gunny, Harlan_Liner, NewPol, PiA_ChiefRedCloud, RGHawk, Streamer, Tranquil_Dominance, UAC-Ruivo and Wild1.

    The checking is also done, so we are now left with the final stage, which is producing the published version. We have hit a slight snag, and I have contacted Blade to get guidance from him. I would hope that the delay will only be a matter of days, and then we will be able to hand this over to Op, for him to add the information for the Crossfire 1.6 mod.

    Thursday 2/3/06 8pm GMT

    The Big Race event

    Meet in Arena. The race will be in Coloseum. There will be 3 rounds, with 3 laps each. The pilots will cruise through special rings. If a pilot misses a ring he will have to go back and go through it. The racers cannot use weapons or kill the other racers.

    The first 3 pilots to finish the first round will proceed to the second.

    The 2 pilots to finish the second round will proceed to the third and final.

    The winner from each round will receive a prize from 10mill credits. But only the winner from the final round will receive the Title 'Best racer' and the winners badge.

    Look forward to seeing you there.

    Baldwin.

    Not sure if I should reply here, as I did not post my article here, the Chief however quoted it here, so in for a penny...

    My article said the population of Stuttgart joined THEIR cousins in being liberated. Dont bring my cousins into it, my family is Irish, and I have hundreds of cousins. :)

    Secondly I was writing an article as a journalist who was friendly to the new government, so there may be a hint of bias in what I wrote, but only a hint. When ASF recapture these two systems, you can conduct an investigation into the accuracy of my report. :)

    Shame you could not be there, I would have enjoyed your perspective on the battle, no doubt equally unbiased.

    PiA_JtaK

    The BIg Race will be held again tonight in the Colosium at 2000 GMT. All pilots of any level are invited, and once again big cash prizes will be won.

    Please meet at Arena at 1945 GMT. Races will start promptly at 2000. If you are held up, please make your way to Colosium, as with 3 races, you may still get a chance to compete.

    See you racers there...

    I think the whole thing makes more sense if you understand the sequence of events.

    LP attacked New Berlin as a raid when there was only 1 BG on server. The PiA were invited to take part, but LP had already reached Frankfurt, and we were several systems away engaged in training. A second BG then came on server, and PiA and DC decided to join the battle. Before we had reached Freeport 7, a third BG came on server.

    There is nothing in the rules that says an attack cannot follow a raid, and I would argue (and argue, and argue :) ) that to rule against would reduce the potential for raids.

    As it turns out, we all had great fun, and great fights. Although at a numerical disadvantage, BG fought exceptionally well. It was a pleasure to see fighters stepping up a gear. So I would like to send them a hearty Well Done!

    You know Dark, for nearly 600 years before the online gaming community, they had the pub, same basic concept, except with beer. You could even lean over and slap the person who was annoying you.

    Don't think this new idea will catch on myself

    I am delighted to be able to report, that due to the outstanding efforts of the explorers of this community, all of the systems have now been allocated, and are currently being mapped.

    The numbers are now:

    Returned: 44
    Allocated: 25
    Unallocated: 0
    Totals: 69

    We will begin checking the first batch of 35 maps this weekend, and I am hopeful, that mapping will be completed as early as next Friday.

    I should like to thank all those involved in this project, who through sheer hard work have put us where we are.

    Top three explorers are:
    Centaurian 9
    Fitter55 9
    DC_Thuban 7

    PiA_JtaK

    I am pleased to report further progress since my last report. The following members of the community have stepped forward, and are currently mapping systems, these are in addition to the players I mention in my last report. This brings the total number of volunteers to 11.

    DC_Haegar
    NewPol
    PiA_ChiefRedCloud
    RGHawk
    UAC-Ruivo
    Wild1

    The numbers are as follows:

    Completed = 25
    Issused = 22
    Un issued = 23
    Total = 70

    I am quietly confident, that by this time next week, we shall have completed half the required systems.

    Special mention should go to the top three explorers, who are:

    DC_Thuban = 7
    Centaurian = 6
    Fitter55 = 5

    I look forward to reporting further progress next week.

    Of the 24 systems of Vanilla Freelancer to be mapped, 2 have been completed (well done Fitter55), 13 have been allocated, leaving only 9 unallocated. I expect that this will be snapped up by the new volunteers.

    The systems unallocated are:
