To Arvedui,
Sorry if I am being pedantic, but does that
allow you to reset the admin password as well?
If so, very useful information, thank
you for that.

To Arvedui:
I read your post with interest,
and I would like to know if you have tried your suggestion. I have not heard of that
one!
I came accross an article that seemed to describe what you were suggesting at
http://security.itworld.com/4352/030218winxp/page_1.html
But if I read it
correctly, it only allows you access to the files of the system, not reset the password
itself.
I have used a package called L0phtCrack in the past for this problem, but I
appear to have lost my copy of it.
The tools on the web site I mentioned in my other
post seem very good, and you can always ask again for help!
Good
luck!
Remember kids don't try this at home!
If I read your post correctly, your friend cannot remember the Operating systems
Administrator password. Therefore you cannot install software, change settings and the
like.
It is possible to reset the Administrators password, without re-installing the
operating system.
Have a look
at:
http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm
Full
instructions in English, and links to the tools to do it.
If that does not work, or
you damage something in the process, then as stated in an earlier post, boot from the
install CD and format the drive from there, before re-installing the Operating
system.
If however you are locked out of the BIOS, that is a different problem with a
different solution, just correct me if I am wrong
Have Fun!!!

ChiefRedCloud,
I re-read some of the earlier posts by you and noticed that you said
you were using the firewall built into XP.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814550/
Contains a section on
configuring this to allow MP.
Hope this helps!

Crossfire is a modification to the Freelancer file set. It does not
replace the main program for the game, nor does it add any new ones.
Crossfire does
not communicate to the outside world, and therefore does not need to pass through the
firewall. This is all handled for it by freelancer.exe.
Freelancer uses the
Directplay8 set of protocols to communicate first with the Global Catalogue server to obtain
a list of servers hosting multiplayer games. It uses UDP on port 2300 to do this.
Once you have selected the Multiplayer server you wish to connect to, another UDP
connection is established with that server in the range 2300-2400 (but usually starting from
2302). You need these ports, to allow each user to attach to the server and play (each
player needs there own port).
It therefore follows that your firewall must allow UDP
traffic through ports 2300-2400, or you will not be able to communicate with the Global
server, or connect to a hosting server.

This is what prompted my
questions to ChiefRedCloud.
Hope this helps.
Some questions for you!
Have you double checked your firewall?
Can you
tell me what ports are open for FL?
What firewall are you using?
Have you
installed any software since you last accessed an FL server?
Are you getting any
error messages when you boot your machine?
Do you have ICQ or MSN or IRC software on
your machine (in case we need to talk)?
I may be being pig headed here, but I still
think the problem lies with your firewall.
Regards,
JtaK
ChiefRedCloud,
Been thinking obout your inability to conect to server, you sure your
firewall is set up to allow MP.
Hey Illuminatus, you sure it is 15 pins, I have an old MS Sidewinder, that uses a
game port connection, that has 9 pins.
My modern motherboard does not have a
suitable connection, but I have an old sound card that has does.
Means fitting it,
and disabling the onboard sound card, but I remember SL as being a great game, so I might
just do it.
It would be nice to fly with a joystick again; there really is no
comparison with a mouse. The degree of control that you get really does enhance the game.
Opps Sorry forgot to mention, there is no charge for my service. Indeed I may pay
you!

Hey ChiefRedCloud, if you need a
wingman while you sort out your rep, let me know.
I cannot pvp (no experience, but
working on it), but I can shoo those pesky flies away for you. I am usually on from 15:00 to
20:00 GMT, but can work outside these times.
Us old folk got to stick
together!
I fly under char of JtaK
See you out there!
Best place to find them is where they live.
They have Bases in Hudson, Kepler and Colorado.
I made the same mistake as you. I
gave bribes to get equipment I wanted. Ended up as enemies of the ASF and CSF. Could not go
to X-3043 without being attacked, and could not dock at Crossfire.
Nasty when your
carrying 130 Escape Pods!!!
The problem is not with you, but the equipment you are using.
With level 9
equipment, you need to pick your guns very carefully.
Until I get some level 10 guns,
killing them is a slow and often tedious business.
Once you have 4 level 10 guns,
and a decent shield, you can go out without bots/bats, and make more by selling your victims
discarded ones.
Why do it? 100k per tractor pod. Average level 40 mission is worth
1.5M, takes about 10-20 minutes.
Takes a lot of trading to make that profit, that
quick.
I have done
missions where support was supposed to be there, one ship turns up, and promptly gets
killed.
This has happened several times.
Best to phone a friend I think.
