... and for sure he does not need to show that the PC games are not dead

who does he think he is?
Every fucking year thousands of PC games are released... more than for any other platform.

I think he cancelled his monthly magazine subscription to Computer Active 10 yrs ago OP.
He is out of touch, just like all of the politicians around the world.

Chris Roberts, the New Messiah of the PC Gaming world, all hail our savior. i don't think......

    Cygna

Well, it's just that people think Gaming consoles are for games, and PCs are for something else.

Open an XBox, and what do you find................................ a PC

PC gaming will never die, it will out surpass ANY game console,, ANY day.

I should know, i have had them all, and have sold them all, but guess what ?????

I STILL HAVE A FRAGGING PC.

3 laptops ( 1 state of the art ) and this old PB imedia Pro which i am using now, to be exact.
*Cygna looks around* But NO game Consoles i can see, as i concider them for KIDS only.

Oh hang on, the PS3 addons, A keyboard, a mouse, a web cam, wifi this wifi that, no doubt
a printer, but hang on, this is a games console, PC is dead, right, long live the Console...errr i don't think
so, PS3 still a PC in a nice shiny black box, and that goes for the rest of them...

I don't see a Freelancer clone for the PS3 on the shelves at any outlet.. ( and i don't count Mass Effect )

With the right rig and setup, your PC will piss over ANY Gaming Console Ever... Pure fact.

Now i await the Console nerds attack on my post... ;) <----- Winking means i jest, just in case u have difficulty
in understanding me. <----- and that was sarcasam.

I have no problem with the stuff that he created... I have a problem with the shown arrogance.
His claims about the genre belittles the work of all other Scifi game creators which kept the genre alive during the past 10 years while Mr. Roberts did nothing for it. He is by far not the best space sim creator nor were his projects all successful.
His original concepts for Freelancer failed putting him into the position to sell his company to get the game at least finished, Starlancer was a commercial dissaster... the last wing commander game was crap... so was the wing commander movie. Games like conquest or brute force dont even get mentioned today anymore... for gods sake.
Chris Roberts left the game industry in 2003... but has not released any successful game since 1996. That are 7 years doing something wrong... and meanwhile almost 10 years doing nothing for the genre. The hype is clearly not justified.

    I totally agree.

Look, this game that Roberts is making will take 2-3 years to make, and to get the funding for the top end computers
to make the game on, and to pay the wages of the Dev team, YOU the populas pay HIM up front... end of story.

Please tell me that this doesn't smell of a con..........?

Anything can happen in 3 years, WW3, 21/12/12, Homer Simpson made President, or the truth of the matter, company
gets sold off, he does a runner and the people under him sell the idea to a major software company like EA, and then
you get the game from your local store, which is the way it should be done.
Cutting the middleman out as he says, means and sounds dodgy to me, no legality. His promise, His Rules.

OP quoted Egosoft from Germany, which made the Famous X Series, tbh one of the great series of space sims i have ever
seen,( and played ) that is not that dis-similar from Freelancer.
They kept the franchise going by making new versions, X2-The Threat, X3-Reunion..ect...ect , and they are still going strong.
Funny how Roberts didn't spot this ??
Probably one of the only software house's out there that are still KEEPING Space Sims in the Lime Light.
So WHY did Roberts not make FREELANCER 2 ?? In favour of WC thats why. He still likes playing with his little joystick.

When people hype themselves up so much, And believe their own hype, it most prob turn out to be a disaster.

    rofl

And as you might know Chris Roborts is superior, without him the space sim genre will be or would already have be dead. So no matter what he will make. Its better than everything else and all other server of every other space sim game will be empty - so good this new game will be. There is no doubt. Not a single one.

I think you find it was David Braben and Ian Bell, that started the whole Space Sim genre off,
    With Elite and Frontier:Elite 2.

To even suggest that Space Sims by Roberts kept the genre going, is clearly criminal.
I got fed up with the dam cockpits of WC, seems to me all he wanted was a great looking cockpit for
his ship design, I prefer what Freelancer/Crossfire offers.

Star Citizen is just another WC clone, and to add insult to injury, he put some Freelancer in it, but
its STILL Wing Commander at its core. So no big shock to me there, he is sooo linear.

Freelancer as it is, is still imo the best format for a space sim i have EVER played, loads of room for expansion,
New storylines, quests, systems, all can be done relatively easy.
Also with a new game engine, who knows its potential.
I think Roberts has given up way too fast on the Freelancer Legacy that is.

You just need an imagination and a flair for all thing Sci Fi.

    Things that spring to mind.

    1. More sleeper ships discovered =new systems

    2. Coalition join ranks with Liberty or Nomads

    3. Ancients are found to be still alive and need our help

    4. Earth is again under attack by an Alien force

    5. Be able to terraform a planet that can sustain life.

Just a few to mention, i have loads. :P

And I know you was being Ironic/sarcastic Huor. ;)

Roberts was too quick to have given up on Freelancer, it can be STILL huge, and all he can do
is make another WC version, because thats what Star Citizen really is, is it??

Ok Op, thanx for the advice, i will wait until better options allow it.
Thanx for your speedy reply.

    Cygna

Cygna, good to see that you did not put the space suit in the locker like so many other good pilots have. Freelancers welcome the return of another experienced pilot to its ranks. CYA in space...

    Cheers,

    Scarz

LOL, me, na, my spacesuit has only gone to the dry cleaners mate, got into a bar fight on Planet New London,
and it got sidewinder fangs and Liberty Ale all over it !!

Still........... was a good fight tho.. ;)

    C Ya in space dude..

    Cygna

is there a specific reason for such a move?
will you probably regret it in a week?

As i am the Founder of LNAW ( League Of Non-Aligned Worlds ) and Hawkinz was Co-founder, being
as I am the only one left, seems to be a bit wrong of me to continue running a clan with only
    me in it !!
Recruit !! you'd might say, but to be honest i can't be arsed with all the problems running a clan, and
that includes inner and outer squabbles and oc the time that i have to put into it.

I came to Crossfire by accident many moons ago after finishing Vanilla, and i was amazed to find
people such as OP, making addon packs for my game ( Mods ), and to this day, i am still excited about
playing such a fine space sim, no other as kept me wanting more, and thats the truth.

I remember hoping my day at work would be over more quickly, so as i could explore and chat to my
online friends on CF, and i still do !!

Its a shame that you can't change your online name in the flhook as /renameme as some other mods
do allow this, but i'd expect the reason it was not in it was bc people were abusing it.

So OP, if you can rename my chars by removing the {LNAW} tag at the begining of each of my chars
that would be Great, but if its as i have said in first post, to much fudging about, just delete them.

So i hope this clears things up a bit with people, and thats including Nuc-Nuc. ;)

I am still a Freelancer at heart, and you WON'T stop me. :D

    Rgds

    Cygna

    # EDIT: For Rexor, Avatar change to my creation, a bit basic, but will do for now. :P

Have dropped the LNAW tag, and now just plain old Cygna.
I am now just a Freelancer.

OP, delete all {LNAW} on my Chars pls, if too much of a pain, delete all together, will
start a fresh. But the first option is welcome. ;)

    Rgds

    Cygna

why not... but step by step

YAY!! GO OP...GO OP... GO OP...GO OP.... :tanz: :zocken:

@ Vishnu.....No m8, not finish CF, Extend it to a new Engine and continue
Storyline, my support as always.

On another note, Citizen site pledges part has a serious crash, hmm.. a simple addon
widget, is this the shape of things to come from the GREAT Roberts.
And then I get an email which looks like a plea to pledge message.
Although I played in the past WC 1-5, i didn't like the the format, once missions were over,
    so was the game..........

That's WHY i like Freelancer sooooo much, lets you carry on and become your own god in
    your universe.

    CROSSFIRE FOR EVER DUDES

    Cygna

As OP said, You pay for it b4 you get it and b4 its made, is he MAD ???....sounds fishy to me, and I quote what the site said:

Not a subscription but not free-to-play; rather a hybrid of
these two business models. Much like ArenaNet's Guild Wars 2, you will
purchase the PC game and pay no recurring subscription charges. Your
purchase of the game will allow you to play in the universe for free,
forever! The game will offer a variety of virtual items for purchase
with in-game credits allowing you to spend money on items that offer
more ways to express yourself, provide convenience, and customize your
experience. But the cardinal rule regarding "in-game purchases" is:
Players who spend money purchasing in-game credits will have no
advantage over players who spend time!

Everything is bought with in-game credits. These purchases
won't offer any advantage over someone who puts in the "game-time" to
earn the same amount of credits. You might ask, why have "in-game"
purchases at all? This allows us the resources to support the game on
an ongoing basis as well as continually add content.

Hehe, who is he kidding, remember all those game apps on ur iphone when you bought stuff, and then you had a rather
large bill at the end of the month !!! because you actually PAID for them. A nice little earner for Roberts.
Also , call me old fashion, I'd rather have a DVD in its case of this game , rather then a downloaded version.
Ok the game looks impressive, but.. and its a BIG BUT, who in their right mind would buy it online as a downloadable
game, and then pay more for upgrades and equipment and stuff so as you can go further in the game.??
Sounds like a very clever scam to me. :eeeek:

It would be like OP making Crossfire 3.0, but we have to cough up £20 each upfront, and then wait for 2 years for
    him to make it.
For what its worth, i would rather donate to OP so as he could continue doing the great work he has done, then pay
what looks like to me a quick money spinner for Chris Roberts...AVOID...AVOID...AVOID...DANGER WIL ROBINSON..DANGER !!
    Cygna
    CROSSFIRE FOR EVER.... :give_heart:

    Nuc Nuc old bean,

As you seem to be having issues with CF, I think you need to do a fresh install of Crossfire bud,
Delete everything, including FLMM 1.3, program folder where its installed and also the one
in MY DOCUMENTS.Anything that says Freelancer.

Restart computer, then in search bar type REGEDIT, there will be a Crossfire folder in the registry
also, delete that if its there, ( will be in the software part of Windows )

Then restart, then you are good to go.
I have XP, and I have no probs, this should sort you out.( I hope ^^ )
Also use a ID manager to save your ID, Forlon has one on here somewhere, and its very good
    which I use.

    Good luck m8

    Cygna

well, to be fair the discovery main server staff and mod creators remained fair, went on distance to the violators and removed the links
they are not to be blamed

but there are always some bad apples... on disco there are a few more than on other servers.

Well as long as you are satisfied with the end results from all that marlarky , then so are WE.
Lets hope Crossfire 2.0 can get the lift off it deserves, and inject more people's interest
in your Crossfire Empire..... Muhaa hahahahah....... Global Domination.... ;)

Bad Apples make good Cider, , or is it Cidre ????

    Cygna

Well Nuc Nuc, it started off with a few cross words between them and OP, then as you rightly say
carried on with themselves arguing with each other, that is IF the ppl there were Disco players to
    begin with !!!

Yeah that did baffle me why no-one started a war on my thread,,, that's because they FEAR me... :D ;)
No seriously, maybe its bc its just a player who posted just an honest thread so that the ppl he knows
can join in the fun, and oc the advertising thing as well..heh
I am glad it pleased you... ^^

    Cygna

Hmm, not a nice thing to do is steal ppls work without asking permission.
I now know how you feel OP.
Tbh tho, I don't play Disco, the whole feel about it just didn't seem right.
And as i said in my post , it was about choice, I was only stating that is was good
to see so many Mod house's keeping Freelancer going in their own special way,
But achieving that through stealing others work is just not right and they should be brought to justice.
In other words, told to remove said violations, as you rightly did.

@Huor- Yep, I should have not reg on RSI, too much hype and Roberts now getting his ego inflated more
by his recent poll.. made me laugh when i read it.

    Cygna

As usual the forum on RSI get a huge flame and trolling war between different mods.
The ones being Disco and Crossfire.
I saw this coming really, as there is alot of bad blood between the 2 mod houses.

I should have asked you OP if it was okay to put my thread on there in the first place.
I only wanted to get some free advertisement for the Crossfire community and OC Crossfire.
Which as a matter of fact is what the others doing as well.

Its a shame ppl out there want to be childish and indeed put a bad light on their respective mod
    that they are representing.

Roberts must be having a good laugh at us.
Also we must remember, he may in fact be trying out all the mods to see what has been done to
his Freelancer, and to see what ideas he can use for his new project, that is OC he has already done so.

It doesn't matter what Mods you play, its all about keeping Freelancer ALIVE and making it better than it was
in the shape of MODS, they all have good points and bad points.
Its not about who's best, its a about choice, and I for one congratulate all of them for keeping a 10yr+ game
    going. Well done all.

    Cygna

What is it with the post's on RSI regarding bloody joystick support for Freelancer.

Everyone knows that Freelancer is best played with Mouse and Keyboard combo.
Meh, they must think they still have an old Atari games console or something.

I am very suspicious regarding this site, something doesn't add up.
I mean, why now, why the secrecy.....
What does he hope to gain ( except money from us oc ).

Imo, Crossfire to me IS Freelancer 2 with the continuing storyline.

Ok, it may have not have Trent and Juni in it, But to me it has the feel of Freelancer 2.
And hopefully Crossfire 2.0 continues on further and deeper.

I think Roberts has regrets by leaving Digital Anvil when the project of Freelancer
was almost finished, only to hand it over to someone else to complete.
Plus the fact how long it has been around and STILL played today, all money that he could have gained
only if he stayed put at D.A, and also could have created MODS himself and sell them as addons for Freelancer.
Hmmm, very strange to appear 10 yrs later to announce a possible Freelancer 2 on RSI.
Will he also walk away from that one I wonder????

I must stop drinking Rum. ;)
