White christmas! (climate changes)

  • Who amongst you fine ppl had a white christmas this year?

I am sad to say, that in Denmark we had the warmest year ever, and for now the warmest winter!
Where I live me havnt even had temp below freezing yet, and that we usually get in late october.

And then I hear about snow in Australia, and in other usual warm places on the Earth.

Now I ask you; tell me of the color of your christmas, and if you have experienced any climate changes your self!?

Oh and a happy incoming new year to you all!

  • :D My mother lives in the mountains, so yes, we had a white Christmas, which is ironic, since I live in Arizona, not known for its snow... :P

  • I'm not at all savvy with measuring temperature in celsius so all the numbers are in fahrenheit, but it was a very warm Christmas here in Montana. It was around 40 degrees and there were patches of ground without snow. I remember back when I was younger and lived in Minnesota there'd be a meter of snow outside and it'd be 20 or 30 below zero. Winters don't really seem like winters here anymore. In the 8th year of drought out here and mild winter it didn't surprise me at all that it snowed early in the month and then rained on the 23rd. :P Though there really was never more than an inch of snow last winter, things are slightly better this time around. Still... it's odd being in a valley without a foot of snow when it varries from 3 or 15 meters deep up on Logan Pass :D

  • wel, I had on of my coldest christmas, but no snow, no clouds, only a clean and a blue sky.

but I have to say that in january late have snow here, what is to unsual, most of people never have seen snow here before it, I think the last time was some 60 years ago.

And we are feeling warmest summers every years, so the global heating is very much a reallity here.

Lol, problem is if temperatures were that high everywhere (reletively) the ice sheets would have already melted and Germany would be underwater :D

  • Well OP and Marshall, you forget one thing, that in the end, global warming will lead to an iceage, or so some say. When the warm undersea streams disappear because of all the fresh water being melted from the poles. So perhaps OP can sit at the beach, but I think it will be too cold, even icy beaches lol.

  • There would be a delay I would think. The ice isn't melting all at once, but rather gradualy. Various stages of global warming could take anywhere from a few years to dozens of millenia. Scientist theorize all sorts of things, but we really won't know what will happen until it does. If another ice age settles in though most of us would be pretty screwed regardless of where we live. The rapididy and manner in which the climate changes all depends upon global plant growth, human development, pollution, and urbanization, other natural events (disasters or occurances of nature that could somehow affect the progression of the problem), and things that we probably haven't even thought of yet. Fortunately, at the rate technology is advancing (horse-drawn buggies to moon-walks in 75 years isn't that bad you know), if any imminent danger to mankind is more than 100 years away I think people will either have the capability to counter the problem in other ways or have means to sustain the race without the well-being of the world's environments. If we have the technology to terraform other planets (we have everything we need to do it, just no plans), I'm sure we can figure out how to fix a broken climate while minimizing the negative impacts.

  • well then i go swimming one year and a few years later i go boarding... doesnt matter... i like it ^^

btw. the nature does find a way
cold/warm water circulation could stop in the way we know it - true
but it cant be stopped entirely... in the same way you cant stop the wind (its the same procedure)
