Starlancer Reborn or Crossfire?

  • First I've been

considering buying Starlancer (Amazon has it) Because I love Freelancer. I'm playing Open

SP now in Freelancer. And Have just downloaded your Crossfire Mod and OpenSp mod. Perhaps I

should play your Starlancer Reborn first. Is it availbable yet? Or should I get (Iknow, a

seperate game) Starlancer first. I know it's subjective, and stupid, but I'm just

    curious.

  • starlancer reborn is a mod

for freelancer, you dont have to buy starlancer

  • somehow i want to play sl, too but i dont have the money for buying a joystick atm,

and i dont know what is a good one...

i made the trial, but u can forget fighting

    with keyboard...

maybe someone knows where to get a cheap joystick, that works

    well.

  • ive seen joysticks for just 15.... more is not needed.... some ppl in SL said

that only a good joystick with many buttons will do the job

but to be honest all good

players dont use most of the joystick buttons.... i mean i have a stick with 8 buttons and i

use 2 of them... good players play with joystick and keyboard.... all functions are on the

board while the stick is only used to fly

the only important thing is that the stick

is not too light so it will stand on the desk savely

    joysticks are not expensive

anymore because the good sticks are not sold these days.... logitech and microsoft stoped to

produce them (which is a shame coz i want to buy a 2nd MS sidewinder ff - my old stick

doesnt work correctly anymore which is no wonder after 3 years playing hardcore SL)

  • I

used to use Thrustmaster stick and then the Hotas combo for my flying sim age and it was

really difficult to master all the 26 prog. buttons for both device. Freaking nuts but in

time was much better than using the the Joystick & keyboard :(:(:( Im nostalgic

now...where do the old joystick days went to?? Well, after I practically destroy that combo

(really difficult task to achieve), it was too much to pay for me so I bought a humble 3d

Cyborg Joystick which has been with me since my middle JumpGate days (I take it easy on it

    now)

By the way, I never played mp for starlancer, is it any mp sl community still

    alive outhere???

can u get analogue control pads for pc's? and if so are they any good?

yes but i still suggest a joystick... its better to handle and i heard that illu ordered

a pretty good stick for just a few bucks

and rg... no there is not a real sl mp

community out there.... so far we only had 5 players but since i made this suggestion to

create such a SL community i got a bunch of requests

    one thing i can promise
    at

the moment you have learned to play SL in multiplayer you dont want to play FL anymore

  • I will undust my original SL cds (2) and get my

Joystick back from the box if there were any online place to play. But I will need a lot of

practice cause it is being a while since I use a Joystick (however, I think is like the

bicycle, when you learn to ride on it you will never forget [10] )

  • ok it seems like more and more ppl are

    interested in SL
so lets get these things running

  • I have the joystick now, but the cable-output only fits

    in my scanner ?(?(

does anyone know where to get a cable to connect this joystick

    to my pc?

ah, it is a cable with 15 dots in it.
like the cable output of a

printer(is it called like that? on german its "drucker") but only 15 dots in it.

  • Hey Illuminatus, you sure it is 15 pins, I have an old MS Sidewinder, that uses a

game port connection, that has 9 pins.

My modern motherboard does not have a

suitable connection, but I have an old sound card that has does.

    Means fitting it,

and disabling the onboard sound card, but I remember SL as being a great game, so I might

    just do it.

It would be nice to fly with a joystick again; there really is no

comparison with a mouse. The degree of control that you get really does enhance the game.

  • yeah i am sure.

    ok, my problem

    is solved.
i need an adapter for this.
the port i have on the joystick is called

    midi(15 pins)
and i need an adapter to make it compatible to com(9 pins).
    only thing i

need to do is buy it.
i think i will do at weekend.

  • It is really cool to

see more people interested in SL. You wont be dissapointed after you try it. It is joystick

driven but as I said before it feels naturals. And to maneuver inside (no around) an

asteroid to avoid being hit will pump your adrenaline up. Feel the Freedom, Feel the Rythm,

    Starlancer, here we go!!!

    See you there m8 ;)

    PS: Starlancer

Reborn is a Freelancer mod and no joystick is required. On the other hand, Starlancer is

just Starlancer and Joystick should be used to fly.

  • hehe

but someone has to tell me how the mp is working ?(?(

  • You can still get a decent Logitech (USB)

joystick from newegg.com or zipzoomfly.com for about $20US. I got one for another game, but

was disappointed that more of the buttons did not have actual interface w/game controls.

The stick calibrates fine, but most of the new games don't interface with the stick

buttons. Works ok for flying, though I've gotten spoiled by having steering, throttle, and

guns all in one hand w/mouse... Now, though, I guess i'm going to have to check out SL,

even though I'm already existing on 4 hrs. sleep/day!
