  • So, i'm a pretty big star wars nerd. I liked the first 6 movies, read multiple books, played countless star wars games and related mods and even created my own Star Wars related self history about how i was born on Corellia, joined the jedi, commanded a super secret black-ops clone unit during the clone wars, got into an argument with yoda and ended up on Earth as a result of the exploration of a new hyperspace route and the theory of relatively

but i didn't like The Force awakens. not enough consistency,

, a little hard to follow and the IMAX 3D showing was mediocre

I might have to go watch it again.

  • the big problem is telling a story which is not spoiling how the next episode continues and i think the force awakens does this perfectly just like the original 3 episodes.

I didnt really like the prequel episodes due to multiple reasons such as the fact that pretty much everything was explained, even the stuff that didnt require explanation.
In episode 1 they tried to re-interprete what the force is and just at this moment star wars got less interesting for me. Not everything requires an explanation. The force didnt require an explanation.
Next to that did every the episodes 1-3 end without leaving any questions open... which not only was because we knew that anakin is vader and palpatine the imperator.
Prequals suck... because you always know where they will lead to.

Another reason why i didnt like episode 1-3 (putting jarjar aside) were the visuals. In these episodes everything was too colorful... too perfect... too much of visual effects. These movies didnt have much natural anymore. The visuals of episode 1-3 were very different from episode 4-6.
The dark and natural environments of the original star wars got replaced by perfect CGI sceneries of shiny temples and cities.
Episode VII however goes back to the roots... it catches up the original star wars style again and i really like that. Its dark... its threatening... the effects are placed where needed instead of everywhere... the sceneries do not appear sterile like in the prequel episodes.

Same can be said about the characters in episode vii. They are natural... they have to fight with their own demons. They are not simply overpowered jedi on a mission.... they are people trying to survive and trying to find their place in the universe.
    That makes it interesting.

Its also a different way how in episode vii funny comments were included.
Episode 1-3 was mostly driven by slapstick and smart-ass comments.
Episode vii has a much more subtile humour which really fits to the characters. Putting the many easter-eggs aside i really like 2 specific scenes.

  • i never saw Episode 4 in theaters. I wasn't even a sperm cell in my dad's nut then. But even still, i remember seeing it at a young age and i understood the star wars universe pretty well.

partly the other reason i didn't like it is because various star wars pages on facebook decided to give out spoilers. I was not as surprised as i should have been in various scenes which kinda ruined it.

How else would Qui-gon know if Anakin is "The Chosen One?" The prophecy in Harry Potter was pretty straight forward in terms of who what where and when plus a giant freakin library full of prophecies. The only clues Liam Neeson had to go off of was that there was this random slave kid on a desert planet with a talent for pod-racing and no father (he probably went out for cigarettes at dinner time)

but that's not the issue at hand

now remember, Lucas wanted to expand the visual representation of the star wars universe with the prequels. The Jedi Temple is supposed to be grand, elequent and obvious there was a lot of money put into it's contruction. Coruscant is the center of the Republic/Empire, plus it's a city and has a reputation to uphold. Would you visit Times Square in New York City if it didn't have all the billboards and lights and stuff? Abrams went back to basics, which isn't always a bad thing. I just had a hard time following it was all. He didn't have to reveal everything, but i don't think he revealed enough. I had too many questions at the end that definitely couldve been answered in The Force Awakens. I'm okay with "How did Maz end up with Anakins lightsaber?" I'm not okay with

It did have it's moments, yes. Overall i'd say i'd have to see it again. but not in IMAX unless it's one of the ones where the screen is 4 stories tall and has 1400 megawatts of sound blasting through it

  • well... do you want to watch episode VIII?
if the answer is "hell yeah" then the force awakens was just the way it was supposed to be

after release of this new episode Star Wars is again a matter of many discussions
what people like.... what people dont like... what people assume to happen... wild theories... etc.
    thats good

episode 1-3 caused 3 types of discussions
    1. "spoiler: anakin will be vader"
    2. "whoa... effects!!!!"
    3. "can somebody please kill jarjar binks?"

i know... episode vii leaves many questions unanswered (eventhough i dont believe that thare are that many unanswered questions if you follow the hints and small details)
but thats perfectly fine since its a good reason looking forward to episode viii

  • So, I'm a REALLY REALLY big fan of Star Wars (in case you haven't noticed).

    1) If you read the books, the movie follows just about every detail, even the ones that piss us off, like:

2)If you read the books, you know what's gonna happen in the next few movies (it's gonna get epic!):

This movie just lays down the plot for the next trilogy and introduces the next generation of characters. I was disappointed in the music for the movie. All the original movies, even with Ja Ja Binks (ugh) have great soundtracks. This movie just didn't emotionally entice me with orchestra like the others did. Remember Luke's emotional scene with the 2 sun's setting? There just aren't enough scenes where the music and what you see on screen go hand and hand.

    Fun fact:

At the end of the day, it's what I expected considering George Lucas wasn't involved. I mean look at the KOTOR games from 2001-2004? LucasArts helped develop every last detail of those games, from the voice acting to the music, to the detail of an alien in the cantina...ask anyone, KOTOR series is one of the best games of all time for RPGs, comparable to FFVII (and I use that comparison with honor). Then they sell the rights of the game to EA for an online MMORPG, and it sucked. So, yeah, to be expected without George Lucas. Come on, it's Disney afterall. I wouldn't be surprised if they start marketing their cartoons with star wars toys for money...oh wait:

    The force has died.
Now it's up to the die-hard fans to preserve the genre that shaped our futures. Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic..the story of Revan, that's the movie we will never get to see, and it is better than all 7 movies by itself.

  • I hardly can argue about Kotor which still belongs to my most favorite games eventhough kotor ii sith lords messed it up (probably because it was released unfinished and was spoiling with a possible revan story which never happened)

i also was thinking about the starforge when the new death star consumed the energy but the starforce was working different
a giant factory which also was focusing the dark side of the force

i cant judge about the old republic as a game... never played it
but i have my doubts that an online game can really tell a deep story with a specific message (like in both kotor games)

Don't waste 30GB on your HD and 17 hours downloading the online KOTOR version, it sucks! I also agree with your view Kotor II (they released an incomplete game), but Steam released the game with a huge mod-restoration project integrated in, I've been meaning to buy and download it, but then I won't be in space for at least a month haha. They added the missing planet, hours of conversation, and the missing ending that explains what exactly you accomplished by beating the game, probably the biggest question I had when I beat it (even 7 times afterwards).

    OffTopic
So about that Star Forge, how amazing would it be if you created that! I'll pay you to do it that's how amazing it would be :)
