The ruins are gone. Centuries of our history immolated in minutes. Anything the Heralds touch dissolves into ashes.

I suppose it could have been worse. Our cities survived, because the bulk of the Herald assault was focused on the area surrounding the gateway chamber. And we still hold it, even though D'Tan has decided that we must postpone any further research into its use until after the conflict ends.

I do not agree with his decision. We cannot negotiate with this enemy. We cannot reason with them. And if we remain ignorant about the limits of their technology, they will continue to use it against us.

D'Tan is a man of peace. Nothing will change that, and it is one of the reasons I respect him. But it is also the reason why we need men and women of action who are willing to step up and fight to preserve what we have created here.

Obisek is with the fleet. Tal'Mera is chasing Sela in every shadow. I am not a soldier, but I cannot sit and wait for the Heralds to come again.

I have an appointment with Admiral Kererek this afternoon. If D'Tan will not sign off on my research, maybe Kererek will. I will provide all my data to the Alliance, and continue my work with the gateway technology.

I know the Alliance has had some success in modifying ships to open gateways to the Herald Sphere. But there is more we can do. If we can attack the gateway network, we can also learn to control it. What if we could create gateways of our own to get our ships into battle, or open gateways into nebulas to act as shields against the Heralds' solar flares? How about emergency shelters for civilians hidden away?

There are so many possibilities – but any research into new technology will take resources. We will need more scientists willing to work on Alliance projects. More intact samples of Iconian technology. More funding for experiments that may take months or even years to produce results.

And that's the most precious resource of all. Time. The longer we take to find a solution, the more people will die.

We have to have more time, but we can't waste any time … it's the unsolvable puzzle. I feel like I want to plunge my hands into time itself, shape and bend it to my will, change all that's happened and all that will happen … but I can't. The technology to do that simply doesn't exist.

And if it did, would it be more power than anyone has a right to have?

    Discuss in the forums.

  • Yeah... that of course would be valid options but hey... let us just throw with stones at them ^^

If the view from inside the iconian dyson sphere is an indicator to the power of the iconian fleet then the first attacks on New Romulus and Qo*onos were just a joke. The Iconians wouldnt even need a gateway network. They could open the sealing doors of the dyson sphere and from iconia they could start to flood the entire beta quadrant with ships.
I dont think they would even hit much resistence since the hobus supernova certainly has caused alot of damage in that area.

A way to counter the iconians might be time travel. Afterall we still have this fancy temporal communicator that would allow us to send messages back through time and this way prepare for attacks before they even happened.

Next to that would it finally a good idea to strenghten the alliance.
As the T3 message from sela tells she went through the prophets gate which means that she headed to the gamma quadrant. Only logical reason to that is find the founders and convince the Dominion to join the alliance. The True Way and the Alpha JemHadar made business with the Tal Shiar. Possible that Sela managed to make contact with the Dominion this way.
Another great option would be to get the Voth involved. Since the Voth started to claim ownership of the Solanae Dyson sphere (and this way in conflict with the alliance) they also made themselves target of the Heralds. I doubt that Heralds or Iconians like to Voth forces taking over one of their Dyson spheres once the Alliance gets weakened.
The Voth are sitting in the same boat as the Alliance. Now they could decide to cooperated or start drowning.
The Voth would be a very strong ally. No other races is as old as the Voth and probably they might been one of the races which have fought and defeated the Iconians 200.000 years ago since the Voth as species exist for millions of years already. They have transwarp tech... city ships and an extreme strong military. The first thing I had done after the appearance of the Heralds was to negotiate with the Voth. I dont think that Voth have any personal problems with the Alliance. Voth and humans share a common ancestor... earth was their origin.
Then there are the Undine. Tricked by the Iconians to start wars with the Alpha quadrant they should have to settle an old score with the Iconians now (through Eggan or due Copper returning to fluidic space the Undine meanwhile should know the truth). The Undine super dreadnaught turned against Cooper and agreed to support the alliance because only united they are strong. The Undine follow the strongest so they will join the war against the Iconians.
And while I am already predicting how the war will develop... I think that even the Borg will agree to a temporal alliance. It is not the first time that Borg formed an alliance with humans.
Personally I see the borg as threat to the Iconians. They control the largest territory of all races despite their relative short existence (~400 years before the events of STO the Borg didnt even exist).
An alliance with the Borg would be at the same time risky and beneficial. Risky because Borg and Undine are not really the best friends. Also risky because when Borg gain Iconian tech they might someday use it against the other races. But... since this is a war against a higly technological race it would be an advantage to have highly adaptive fleet and ground forces that could counter Iconian technology.
Why would Borg join the Alliance?
If their losses high enough against Iconians they would seek for alternative ways to win... and since the Alliance is the only force which at least has limited access to iconian tech and the gateway network.
An alliance with the borg is risky but nothing that should be excluded.
Next to that would I think that the borg still have an interest to get earth assimilated but not destroyed. They know where they originally came from and what their prime directive was.

Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.
