Tonight we had the 1st time the event " WoS Battleship Assault " after CF 2.0 release. Beside the fun we had it demonstrated some ... interesting things about the changes made to CF.
1. BS and/or DN are now "true" fighter killers. IOCApache's frags now could tell you all about it . To take such a capship down it needs a whole squad of properly and purposly well equipped fighters with pilots willing to die
for the success of the team.
No more single handed take-down of a BS for a fighter anymore possible. (The "new" PvP-king : the Battleship ?? [esp. during RP in "open system" ??] )
or
To take such a capship down it needs ... another such a capship as Forlon on one side and [AS] Inquisitor on the other side experienced
.
I think we will see much more of such encounters now in the Crossfire universe ... between players. The time when BS made only sense in encountering npc-capships is over now and many players will work hard to get their hands on such a now "true DREADNOUGHT".
2. NPC-participation was also ... kind of an issue. Due to the much increased appearence of npc ships it happens easily, that they get hit during such an event and suddenly ... ALL npc figher-wimgs in radar range turn RED ... what can become quite disturbing, when wave after wave of full Order or GMG VHF wings go after your capship ... and not only the 2 or at best 3 player fighters that try to score against the BS/DN.
My Thougts About :
@ 1.
Crossfire was always fighter focused ... to a much more extent than many/most other FL-mods (at least I know of for MP). Is this tide now turning ?
Pirate-taxing as well as Police-fining a trader/smuggler or another fighter is now a "safe bank" ... sitting in a BS/DN.
And a single hired escort fighter won't be able to do the trick anymore ... only another BS/DN or a whole squad. That will definitly increase the amount of CapShips flying around.
To what extent ... dunno ...
@ 2.
Perhaps some reasons why this event moved to Wheel of Sirius was the unability for CapShips to dock in Coloseum as well as the unability for fighters to reload ammo there.
These possibilities are now paid for with the much more effective/deadly participation of npc's.
These observations and thoughts are not meant as critics ...
but they might be a start of exchange of others thoughtsif these are issues to be dealt with at all and if so : how
