Computer rebooting everytime I enter a system

  • Sorry, but this is doing my head in. I really want to play with this

mod on your server, but I am having this serious problem of everytime I go through a jump

gate into a system, my computer reboots completely. I thought it might be conflicting with

the SP mod addon so I removed it and reinstalled the Crossfire mod again, and I had to

travel back to the jump gate being thrown away from the gate 150k, I tried going through to

Colorado, and my computer rebooted again.

I have no programs running in the

background apart from Team Speak, but something is wrong and I need help sorting this. I

really want to play on your server, but I really dont fancy my computer rebooting everytime

I go into another system and travelling around 150k back to the nearest trade

    lane.

    Warmest regards

  • try this

    1. delete ur freelancer directory
    2. delete ur

freelancer singleplayer savegames or move them to a different folder
    3. download the

crossfire mod again (coz maybe ur download was corrupted)
    4. install FL again
    5.

doubleclick the downloaded mod to load it into FLMM
    6. activate the mod
    7. run FL

  • Right, I have done the above, have tried

going thru a jump gate 7 times, and each time my computer has rebooted.

    Can someone

please tell me what is going wrong here, because I should just be able to load the darn mod

and play on the server without my computer keeping rebooting.

    Sorry, but I really

want to play this mod, and I am getting really low on patience now.

  • Lol, what have my temperory internet files got to do with a

game? My memory is fine, I have got 512 ram.

The mod hasnt been tested properly and

thoroughly, apparently, I am not the only one with this problem, as I was told yesterday

there are several other players with the same problem I am having.

  • i wouldnt blantently say its the mod, OP knows his work. Since the number of people

that have this is the minority and the majority is running fine then it is not due

to the mod. It is either a hardware problem or the way your copy of the mod downloaded.

  • 512 mb ram?What version of windows u using?if its

XP no wonder 512 is no way enough.

  • First of all, my computer

is powerful enough to run this mod.

Second, if everytime i download this mod it is

being corrupted, how else am I going to download it?

Third, I have 3 other friends

who have downloaded this mod who are having the same problem as I am. If the mod had no

bugs, then I should have been able to download it, activate and play it without any

    problems.

  • well so far crossfire 1.52 has been downloaded about 1500 times

    and it seems to

work for all those guys... so its unlikely that the mod is bugged or has a

    damage

sometimes it helps to search for problems on the own PC - like: is the mod

installed correctly.... are there still old savegames... is freelancer installed

correctly... is there enough space on the hdd... is there a problem with the firewall or

    other programs

  • Ok what are your system specs

,graphix card, memory ,processor, virtueal memory, driver versions and operating

    system?
    dont forget soundcard
run dxdiag.exe as well cos i had a similar prob when

game tried to load music that played in warp tunnels.

ps he meant your temp files not

temp internet files, temp files fill up and if u download 1.52 a few times u will have

several copies of 1.52 in temp dir

  • Ok,i'm one of Peacekeeper's friends who is also having

trouble..2 more of my friends not involved with DS9 have now downloaded it on my request and

have tried it out and complained that while New York is a nice place..they don't want to

stay there!!They're getting half way thru the JG and having their PC re-boot...so can 6 of

us,plus others who have commented on TLR and here all be wrong?
    The mod does look

fantastic and i really really want to try it as i'm a major Starlancer fan and would love

to fly the ships here, but at the moment the only thing i'm thinking of doing is copying the

mod on a CD-R and jumping on it repeatedly (ok,won't make the mod work-but it'll make me

    feel much better)
Also, saying it's down to our PC's doesn't hold much ground

either..we all have different PC's and all have different setups.

    P.C= 2.6 AMD

    (clocking at 2.9),256 meg Nvidia 5200, 512 DDR ram,120 Gig HD,windows XP

    A rather

    annoyed DS9 Phoenix

  • 512 meg Ram DDR, On board sound MSI KT 3, GForce FX 5600

with 256 Ram, AMD 2.4, Virtual memory adjust by window (which is not being readjusted at

all), running Windows XP. All drivers are upto date.

    I completely removed all traces

of Freelancer, did a fresh reinstall and its still rebooting.

    This is ridiculous, I

have never had any problems using other mods. Do I have to go and buy the state of the art

computer just to play the mod? The mod should be able to play on any computer providing it

is powerful enough, and mine is. Having to go through a checklist is ridiculous, I should

just be able to play the mod without any problems at all.

  • you dont need a

high end PC to run CF. i'm proof. my PC only has a 450 mhz pentium 3 processor, 128 mb of

ram, and a 32 mb video card. It works fine for me, and pretty much everyone else.

    Crossfire Characters:
    (IOC){Dark_Angel} and any derivatives thereof.

  • not really. you can have trouble no

matter what your hardware. it all comes down to software and compatability. and corrupted

files........ i had the sme thing happen with the download, but it only happend the first

time i tried..........and that was becuase i was doing 3 similar things at once, although i

cant remember what they were.....i remember one had to do with the mod manager..........

    Crossfire Characters:
    (IOC){Dark_Angel} and any derivatives thereof.

  • Yeah I remember that ,you never did tell us how u fixed it:(
    Cos

by the look of it all these guys are doing exactly the same thing.

  • i fixed it by closing out everything except what i needed to download the

mod........and everything went fine. but i dont think that would help here.........this is

    something much more serious........*shifty eyes*-_____-

    Crossfire Characters:
    (IOC){Dark_Angel} and any derivatives thereof.

  • you really

might wanna see how your video card conflicts with your games....I have what your

meaning...only its at random times, I have a e-GForce 6800 and yet after more memory, a new

power supply, and redoing it twice it still locks up and reboots sometimes.

    Is

freelancer the only game it does this?

  • Have u tried with all video settings turned off or right down ,ie no

AA ect 16 bit colour and 800,600 res and the reason i asked for a checklist was to try and

    help .
I had similar problem was caused by soundcard drivers not being properly

    installed.
You can stop system rebooting after a crash ,then u can see the error

message.buggered if i can remember where the option is tho
