Pods VS Trading

  • My opinion is that there is a balance issue between collecting pods and doing trade runs.

For a beginner its more easier to do some missions to collect pods then it is to do a trade route.
Anyone not doing pod collection from start char is going slow in progress.

I can earn more by podding then i can do with trade route.

1 mission with a starting char can give me 4-8 pods worth, lets say, 30K each = 120-240K

Tell me how to match this with a trade route from start?
There is no freighter for a starter cash to match this income. Even if you get 1K profit, you still need to travel long to get this kind of margin.
For example Leeds - Magellan. Diamonds 205 each selling for 1,7K.

If you wanna match the podding (120-240K per mission) and lets say you have 275 cargo (Dromedary can be payed with start cash); (275*1.5K) - (275*0.2)= 357.5K profit.
So flying from Leeds to Magellan (theres no interresting stuff to take back) earns you 357.5K

But in this time (A to B, and back) i can easely do more then 4 missions. And if you take minimal podding 120K * 4 = 480K.
what am i saying i dare to say i can do 10 missions for 1 trade route.

so in my opinion you made the mod Militaristic. Killing earns more then Trading.
And this while trading should be high profit but risky bussiness.

I hope for your reactions about this...
    pods are overdone...

    • Solution; Make House specific Pods in lawfull and unlawfull version.

    Examples (Exchange Rheinland for what you like);
A Rheinland Lawfull Pod sells lower in Rheinland, a Unlawfull Rheinland Pod sells higher.

A Rheinland Lawfull Pod Sells higher in non-Rheinland, a Unlawfull Rheinland Pod sells lower in non-Rheinland.

in this way pods need to be delivered to the prison that sees them as enemys.
In the current situation i can shoot police and jail them in their own base...
and if they buy their hostage back im still their friends.
No, if i return a police to their own base i dont wanna get a bounty, i wanna get a small token of appreciation. You get bountys for returning criminals.

In my idea police would be delivered to their enemy's prison.

  • When the dynamic economy comes back online, there will be days where you can make millions and millions per hour on a good smuggling route....er, I mean "trading" route. [Are we still calling it "trading"?] Yes, right now, trading sucks as there are no really good "trade" routes. When the economy is fully operational, you'll see hordes of people in trains running about making creds.

  • For now, it's better doing whatever brings you more satisfaction, and fun, to avoid getting sick of a same action. You can swap between any of the severalways of making money, even mining (has some good spots now, in 1.9 ), contract taking / RP calls , etc.

  • Not even all the money ... and do it in circles = trading => pods hunting => Research => mapping => PvP traning=>guns collecting=>trading...

    TY WRobN for nice post.

  • Looking forward to the day that DE will be put in place again, will make things interesting again.
However till then just enjoying the great mod for what it is.
And yes for now Pod collecting does make more at the moment, or running Cargo pods from NB to NT can clear 13mil one way using the Soultrain, not including any other cargo you might take along.

  • Will the DE be done like Rep and Empathy?
Per base/commoditie a modifier? or a completly new script that is doing the trick?
