    Sony Pictures Lands Movie Rights to 'Assassin's Creed' Video Games

    by Ethan Anderton The subsidiary Screen Gems already has their own video game franchise with Resident Evil still alive and kicking, but now Sony Pictures is ramping up another video game adaptation for the big screen. Variety has word that the studio is closing a deal to adapt the popular Assassin's Creed video game series into a feature film franchise. Other studios had been vying for the property when Ubisoft started shopping it around Hollywood over the past several months, but Sony Pictures came out on top. The timing couldn't be better with the fourth game, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, hitting shelves on November 15th.


    The video game series follows a bartender named Desmond Miles who is captured by a secret corporation called Abstergo Industries and forced to go back in time to various historical periods like the Renaissance and Crusades to relieve the memories of his ancestors, who are all assassins, in order to recover ancient artifacts. The series has built up quite a fanbase since it started in 2007, so there should be plenty of gamers ready for a feature film version. In addition, the high concept story sounds like a perfect story for a summer blockbuster, as long as it fares better than most of the video game adaptation that hit theaters.

    I simply hate it when they do movies around games or games coming for movies. I cannot recall any decent games for movies and vice versa (except for resident evil, but that one worked without the game )

    the problem is that the movie always "has to explain stuff"
    and often does it in a different way than the game

    When the movie comes out i'm definately gonna watch it since i played AC1,2,Brohood and i'm looking forward to playing Revelations!
    I also heard that they did a book on Brotherhood which i'm gonna get.

    Yeah, we all know that most of the movies which are made out of games are getting screwed after they get made, but ... this is Assassin's Creed we are talking about ;p . I believe they are gonna choose the perfect people for it and hopefully turn out to be awesome after that. If they make it by the game story , it'll suck because we already know it and it's pointless.

    do you remember the Wng Commander or the Doom movie or that Prince of Persia stuff......classic games but their movies sucked.


    Tomb Raider and RE worked because of breasts and bullets.

    Thats quite often the case, movies about games usually suck. RE wasnt nearly as exciting as the game - and the story told in the game is much better than the movie. Thats not only movies made from games. Even movies made from books usually dont fulfill the readers satisfaction. Often parts are missing or the story is told different to what can be read. Its usually because you cant tell a story of books or games in 2 hours in a movie. I for one prefer playing the AC series^^

    And yeah, I prefer playing the AC series too, but I wouldn't say no for a movie ^^ ... I even have no patience for it , cuz I am a huge fan of Assassin's Creed.


    I hope they make the story similar to the Shooter movie, since the story of it is awesome and it could fit to the AC ... and one of the best movies I have ever watched as well.
