  • Hello, i'm new here and i've been trying to get Crossfire to run for the past day now with no success. Before we continue, i'll go over what I have at the moment. I am running Windows Vista, am using a clean install of Freelancer with FLMM v 1.3 and Crossfire 1.82, I can activate it in FLMM, but when I try to run Freelancer with the mod activated I get this message.

    "Component 'MSINET.Ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."

    I have tried re-downloading the mod, different option configurations, and SA_Seqan has also tried to help me via remote control of the computer which did not get it running in the end. Seqan and I believe that the problem is related to Vista, if anyone has any suggestions/able to help, it would be much appreciated.

  • Find that file in the net for your Windows(which is Vista) and download it. Then put it in the System32(I think it was there) folder and you should be fine to install CF with no problems.

    Well I went to this thread here -->MSINET.OCX but I don't know how to do the "Start -> Run -> cmd" part of it, when I move it into the correct area, I either am moving the wrong thing, as it is not able to do anything and when clicked on asks me what to use it with, or the Zipped file itself, which cannot run.

  • Have you tried running it as an administrator? ( Right Click , Run as an administrator )

  • Running what as administrator? Shouldn't matter anyways, since i've been doing that the whole time. If you mean the moving the file into the WOWsys64 folder, the file i'm moving, (There's only one file in the zipped folder) cannot be run, it's just a file full of unreadable symbols.

  • Hi

    You have to start your command prompt session 'As Administrator' ... there are certain areas that is 'protected' by the operating system and you need elevated permissions, even though you may be running the session as someone called 'administrator'

    Also .. you first have to extract the ocx file out of the zip file before moving it to c:\windows\system32 directory.

    You should not have to register the ocx when it's in that directory....

    If you have problems doing these actions, I suggest you get a person that knows a little more about computers to help you do it, or do it for you.

    My other suggestion, Dump Vista, and get windows 7 if you can.

    Kind regards

  • Running XP compared to Windows7 is like going into space with a V2 rocket as compared to the space shuttle.

    Some people swear by XP Black, but we have found efedince that there is tampering that took place in the SSL driver and that makes me beleive that ecery XP Black installation endsup in a botnet some time or another.

    Gaming on 7 is superior to XP. Performance is about the same (but W7 UI is vastly superior), and then there's the small matter of DirectX 11. Also GDI and User Object are extended and memory management is way better.

    Windows 7 is an amazing improvement from Vista, and XP. Very high framerates, i get 74fps in Freelancer with an overclock, but set it back to 60fps and have NO issues at all, not even in IC.

    Kind Regards

  • 7 doubled my ping and would not allow me to expand my PF in order to compensate for the massive amounts of memory needed to run Crossfire. If you're using a laptop like Kasic is, go with XP. If you have a powerful desktop, go with 7.

    Been doing that all along.

    I've been extracting it the entire time. Since my computer is 64 bit wouldn't it have to be to the SysWOW64 directory? I tried both, neither worked.

    If you mean you just have to put it in there, that doesn't do anything. The link I posted earlier for the MSINET.OCX thing said you have to run something once it's in there, but I have no idea what.

    I did that as well, w/ Seqan who tried via remote control.

  • Windows Button + R; enter cmd; press enter;

    --> command console should be open now.

    change to your freelancer\exe folder either by cd(ing) to there or input the folder at a whole;
    input regsvr32 msinet.ocx; if that does not help try to unregister this file (with regsvr32 /u msinet.ocx) and then reregister it.
    if that does not help try to use the dependencie walker (google for it) and have a look if there is missing something more.

  • Thanks to everyone who helped, especially Seqan. As for the solution, it was what Huor said. I'll see you all in space in an hour :D
