  • Evereytime after I turn on my compute and play freelancer,it come up withe message:"Freelancer.exe has encountered a problem...".When I check the folder, freelancer.exe is only 124KB(?).Then I have to reinstall everything.
Any1 can help me solve this problem?

  • CF FL executive takes up only 32,5 KB (33.280 bytes). something is wrong with your install or you're not using crossfire 1.81 mod

  • Ok,I reinstalled freelancer,flmm and crossfire 1.81.The freelancer.exe is 32,5kb now but it still doesn't work.
After I selected singleplayer from the launcher the game crashed every time with the message"Freelancer has encountered a problem..."

  • well what kind of operating system are you using?
if your using win xp, go to your documents and settings and delete freelancer files/folders from there to. and then try again.
if that doesnt work, then i could recommend you delete the registry files as well.. but thats if you know how to do that or not  but then again, could be wrong

  • to make a new installation of Freelancer, make sure you did uninstall and delete all previous files of the game.

    - uninstall Freelancer and delete the Folder in User/MyGames
    - restart the computer
    - turn off the Antivirus (and life protection)
    - install Freelancer (in which folder you ever like)
    - restart the computer (just to make sure, everything in inbound in the registry before changing again)
    - once again! turn off anti Virus (and life protection)
    - install the ModManager (most likely in the same folder as your Freelancer game, so everything is in one place)
    - install the Crossfire Mod (it will search for the right folder (where your ModManager is installed) during the preparation for installing the Mod)
    - open the ModManager to activate the Crossfire Mod (remember, do ONLY activate the Crossfire Mod, no other mod)
    - if you need to then include the Freelancer folder (since there is Freelancer and ModManager installed into the same folder) into your exeption list on your Antivirus Program
    - after successfull activation run the game

    everything worked fine for me

I did have Freelancer installed on Windows XP (home and professional), Windows Vista (home premium 32bit and professional)
and its now running just fine on Windows 7 ultimate 64bit without any problems

hope it helps you to solve your problem.

  • I did everything I can but it's still not working.
Somehow the freelancer.exe from 2.86MB magically turn back to 124KB after I restart
Edit: OK, i fixed it.It seems the problem is the video card compatible mode.It corrupted my freelancer.exe
Edit2: Ok, it happened a second time, the game crashed before the launcher appear.Btw, can any1 give me a copy of your freelancer.exe.It goes from 32,5kb to 124kb

  • I have added freelancer.exe to my av exclusion list
The mod was installed with no error too.
The only weird thing is that after i restart my computer(after installation) or after i exit from crossfire on my first try,all crossfire's freelancer.exe(the 32,5kb one) turn into 124 kb, even the 1 i keep as backup
Crossfire is the best freelancer mod i ever play.So if any1 know how to fix this, pls help me.If u can't,can u at least send me freelancer.exe in a zip file so i can test if it fix my problem.

This is the best way, longer but safer 1, just add some maintain of registry base after first step which is described in the following text.Use CCleaner or something similar, also use search option to find and delete all files CF and Freelancer related! Then try all again like in this tutorial. (ohh also don't forget to delete old Freelancer and CF save games.)

    am i :bcrazy: ? ;)

  • OK, I give up. I did everything u guys suggest me to do and none of it seem to work. The game runs fine the first time but not the second time.
Mayb I'll just play the TNG mod and wait for cf 1.82. Hope the problem will be fixed by then.

  • Have you tried to put * nameresources.dll / sol.dll /server.dll & the FLMM exe * into the Exclussions except the freelancer.exe? The Anti-Virus removes these files if you haven't putted them into the exclussions and you can't play the game.. it could obviously turn your freelancer exe file into KBs too(About that, I don't know, but it could be possible). Do a clean uninstall and install again and try putting all of these files into the exclussions and let's see if it's gonna work... if not, then I am sorry... I have no idea what else could be causing this.

  • ...yes, just do some tests again, cos after restart maybe ur anti virus delete some parts of the files or maybe ur firewall blocks the part of application (i had this probs with few AVs and firewalls, currently i use Comodo firewall and i do some manual fine tuning).Try to set up ur virus to do the things in the way you want(example:"do not do anything except i tell you to do") My avast delete some exe files few times, even deleted files in a copy of CF mod (which "cost' me few hours of DL and installing later)and Avast do all this without warning, cos his defult set up is pretty ...but ok.
Or try to disable any AV just to check what will happen...the last thing is"format C and nice fresh copy of OS!

  • when i install CF the first time on a computer i normaly make a packed archive to have everythink i need when something is going strange - but tbh. my last install on a XP Machine (yesterday) went totally without any problems even when it took some time to install a giant mod.

I am also using commodo the internet security now (means the comodo AV too). Except the Sandbox functionality it´s pretty well running and it is not slowing down the computer that much.

Probably just change your Firewall and AV to a one where others can help you. Stopping CF for a problem on a single machine is nothing i would think about especialy if you get so much help. Anyway, good luck for your choice ^^.

  • ok seems the problem is worse than you are telling us...
what is your anti-virus? ive had problems with certain anti-viruses and i switched to using Comodo Internet Security... it seems to be one of the better anti-virus/firewalls ive used on my pc for gaming.. i havent had any problems with it... so might i suggest you switch your anti-virus...? you can download Comodo Internet Security for free from their website! and delete ALL freelancer files and re-install to a different directory
