  • Hi All,

I am offering my services, mainly as a 3d modeler but also as a general concepts person too.

Some time ago I did offer to work under the wings of the Evo team but that ship sank before i could really do anything, however the Evo team did use one of my first ever models "The Predator" in their mod.

Ship modeling is my main genre, however, I have also created all kinds of new extras from re-textured jump effects to starspheres, general concepts etc etc...

Possibly known to some under the name of [HoTa]_ConQUesT

  • very likely only known by me under the name [HoTa]_ConQUesT
eventhough i think it was not the best idea to make that public since last time HoTa was on CF they got banned from the server for violating the server rules
but maybe that was a different kind of HoTa... maybe the clan has changed and the members too so I will not judge by the past

your offer to help is much appreciated... unfortunatly it seems like you came a bit late since all the modeling on the ships have been finished, the stations are also modeled, starspheres are done aswell
mainly the creation of surs (working station surs) has to be done

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • No, that would be the correct HoTa that you remember - I myself was never on crossfire though and i am familiar with the story which is neither here nor there really, we believe in the fight and thats what keeps the game going.

anyhow, does this mean your drawing the line under the 1.8 version as the final? to be honest sur's should be the work of either the original modeler or a specialist in SUR creation, i wouldn't feel inclined to polish someone else's work

Do let me know if you are considering a 1.9 as apart from modeling ships etc, i have had many cool ideas.

communities keep the game going and not senseless breaking of rules that we experienced the last time... and Im not up to spend weeks to discuss clear rules over and over again just to see them broken in the end

I know only 4 people in the FL community which can be called specialists in sur creation and unfortunatly original modelers are usually not able to create even simple surs.

CF1.9 and CF2.0 will introduce new ships... yes
but those ships do already exist

  • You are a very abbrasive boy OP. All that you needed to do is curtiously turn down my offer of help,

...but now im a person thats come onto a community server only to be ridiculed due to my clan name, rudely blocked from donating my work as apposed to a polite alternative and for what?

Yes, yes the community keeps the game alive too, both the early days of jolt and the 5thss/Moo server kept ticking on that community - but without the War, without the action, communities start to fizzle away.

That is what my clan was always about - the glory of battle, the endless hours of gun-toting and holding onto that last bar of your hull as cannonballs fly past you only a whiskers breadth away.

I was curious about what you said about HoTa so I made some enquiries, apparently they were never kicked nor banned - they simply left and apparently the members of that clan-owned system were happy with and even wanted the intrusion as the fights were fun.

So please do not preach about rules, when the clan themselves were happy to obsolve that rule in the interests of fun.

    ConQUesT

  • well im a few decades too old to be called "boy" and to turn down offers without knowing if its worth or not would be very stupid.

As i already explained to you we dont need ships or starspheres... still not yet sure if you have anything to offer that we might need. And like i already mentioned I am willing to ignore my natural dislike to Hota if its worth it.

I heavily disagree with you since ive seen many servers and communities dying because of war. Crossfire is one of the oldest FL servers out there and we stayed successful all the years without war driving clans. Since 6 years im running FL servers and have seen so many dying because of clans and their stupid decisions and wars. The oldest existing FL clan is part of SWAT and is playing on the Crossfire server. That clan indeed went through many wars but war never was the motivation. Honour was the only motivation... and that is worth more than invading a server using fake chars and violating server rules. This helped to build up this community which is the 2nd biggest in FL and currently most active. So tell me which way was more successful... yours or my way? My clan might have not been as agressive as yours but still we won all of our wars.
Hoto was banned twice... for breaking rules... they got the 2nd chance because one of my members convinced me not to judge too early... but also that 2nd chance was wasted. The entire story was documented on this forum and [HoTa]Death/War/Famine caused heavy flames eventhough the rules were very clear and were explained to them serveral times.
Hota didnt leave by their own will... I personally banned them after the rule violations.
And yes... we wanted the fights... the clans had similar skills but then the server rules were broken by your clan and your clan was banned for that. And a clan can not obsolve a SERVER rule.

  • I probably should brush up on those rules, i merely assumed that being their own system that they could call those shots.. but then like mentioned previously, i wasn't part of that incursion force and not 100% on the rule-set.

As a question of pure curiosity, you say you have ships etc already for versions 1.9 and 2.0 - is your Dev that far ahead?

Im still fairly well set on the belief that a good community coupled with plenty of battle makes the server thrum with life, I remember when the OWL started invading Jolt and 5thss - it caused a stir but it sure as hell made the community band together firmly.

One side certainly holds true, the forum flames are always an ugly side of when battles get out of hand.

  • not to forget that both servers are dead or at least close to dead...
and yes... my dev (me) is already that far with the development

  • I'll reply from the screenies thread in here,

As hard as you seem to please, try to hold in mind that this was all 4 years ago, back when SUR production was just a dream to the sobbing modeler as he wept into his pillow.

Alot has changed now, i can see much evidence of that, which is good to see, personally i'd love to flog the MS gits in public for turning their backs on us small ppl.

i also worked on a very big mining concept - i've always felt that mining was never made particularly lucrative, when it should be,

..hell i have had some fairly screwed up ideas all in the name of new experiences for the game - i love it all.

  • ok - then present what you have in mind and what you have created

  • For the mining concept (sorry to those this will all sound jibberish to) is fairly simple by nature but trickery to make it bloom.

1st off - ships, naturally you would have a whole designated assortment of mining vessels - i only got round to creating the initial prototype of small miner, here she is..

now apart from limited defensive abilities what this ship did sport, is a mining drill, yes, a weapon that has super high hull damage rating (no shield piercing) and the range basically finished about 1mm in front of the drill (it'll make sense in a moment), oh and here is the drill...

This drill is specifically designed in mind to be permanently mounted onto the nose of the ship - and is soley for mining - what keeps this from attacking ships is that lame shield killing ability (zero).

Now.. all that hull damage, and for what?? i hear you say - thats the clever part, you make a faction - a faction that is neutral to all and they wont be flying ships - they will actually be asteroids, asteroids with no engines (or verrry slow ones) no turning circle no shields but have a loot onboard that collates to the field in which you have put down the encounter rate (spawn area).

these roid-ships will have very high hull strength - way too much for the average fighter ship to crack open which is why that mining drill has the super-high dmg output but at a close range. It will be such a good way to bring the mining side of the game out and you can even booby-trap the odd roid to explode dangerously upon being mined to add the danger element [10]

You can do just about anything - super-sized roids - some with ancient tech encased inside - the ability is there...

    sound good?

  • 1. why dont you simply use destructable solars instead that complicated faction mess?
    2. a similar idea was planned for CF1.8 (crytal asteroids for cloaking crystals in Inner Core space)
    3. I still see a bunch of problems....
3.1. CF1.8 has destructable stations and that mining laser could get used to destroy stations instead of using normal weapons (which is inacceptable)
3.2. the heavy damage could be used to manipulate other areas of CF (areas and features i dont want to explain here due to their sensitive nature)
    4. assuming that you dont intent this "gun" being used on ships other than the miner it is either required to make it fixed or to find a new way to manipulate hardpoints

  • a station would gun down one of these before any damage is done i hope - but then that depends on what you give them for armour.

destructable solars are just plain boring - at least with the correct balance of settings the mining roids would move at a slow pace (dynamic) you just cap the ability for the AI to steer.

this would work also for creating random anomolies if you wanted to.

At the end of the day if you have made certain parts of your MOD vulnerable to the mining drill then its certainly not a good idea to implement this design.

A bunch of problems... can be ironed out, what modder ever got beaten by some problems.

As i believe i mentioned previously the drill would be hard-mounted (aka grafted onto a hardpoint permanently)

It was a concept i started discussing when the possibility of a Moo Server mod was in the works - about 3 years ago i think - it was a good idea, more so becuase they didn't have the same concerns over destructable items that you have.

  • a station would not be able to gun down anything... since the ship is close to the station either none or just 1-2 guns can fire on that ship and since the asteroids would need to have similar hitpoints like a station (in order to work but not being unrealistic) the mining gun could easily kill a station

    using factions brings disadvantages
such as being in the reputation list (and i dont want any fake factions there)
those ships cause lag on the server (something i dont want)

in the end the use of such a concept will only happen if it is able to work together with the already existing features - including the destructable universe mod which is part of CF
Im not going to remove other features so this can get included

  • *ahem*
Shattered Worlds has a concept EXACTLY like that.
Only instead, they have the asteroids have shields, and mining ship's guns only do damage to that type of shield...

  • yeah - possible
but asteroids with shields aint better... considering the realism

  • If you want realism - design your own game and stop modding this one because the truth is, to get an element of expanded abilities in this game you need to use trickery - and the shield idea makes good sense to me tbh.

But there ya go, i should probably refrain from pitching any more ideas as your shotgun is loaded ready to shoot em down eh [1]

  • was not necessary i think. OPs work for CF 1.8 is nearly finished - so your application came somewhat late.

Nevertheless any help is appreciated and that has OP already stated. We have other projects here that could use modders as well. If OP dont mind i am sure your help can be used there. Dont stick to CF1.8 :)

Do you mind to support other projects here besided CF? Any more can be discussed if you decide and OP will introduce you to one of those projects...

  • Ahh, you do have a much subtle and preffered method of diplomacy Mr Huor_Súrion, I am all ears...

perhaps you might know of a particular project?

oh and - just by way of curiosity, does anyone know if the Openlancer project is still kicking? last i know of they were using the OGE for thier code and i have not heard a whisper since opengameforge started upgrading.
