Ping problem

  • Been asked to post that question here in case one of you cracks knows what to do:

So, this guy has serious ping-problems, but apparently only on Crossfire. On other servers it seems to work perfectly. Also, his ISP did the unexptected and actually provided some service and checked his connection which seems to be perfect.
Still, the ping sucks, but only on CF. Any ideas what it might be and how to solve the problem?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Move the server to a geostationary satellite, then we're all the same distance from it. :D Seriously, most people with high pings are reaching the server across an ocean, with many nodes in between. There is no remedy except to have a satellite link, or be closer to it physically.

  • If I think Lucy's talking about the same guy, than he used to have perfect connection which then went on the fritz... for no appearant reason.

  • Maybe Lucy is talking about the guy from Slovenia who reinstalled his XP and after this reinstall his ping went bad...

Tbh. after a long talk with him - i have no idea what to do - he did many things already like no virus scan, no firewall, MTU and so on the Network drivers probably?

  • I used to have the exact same problem, but im not sure if his problem was the same as mine. All I did was hack the modem/router that im using (Its a wireless quest fiber optic modem, that is about 3 blocks away from where I live) and disabled the internal firewall, and forwarded the port that my computer uses to play CF so that the modem allows CF to run at max speed. Ever since I did that, my CF hasnt had any problems...except for when my internet disconnects on me, XD

  • some internet optimizers and stuff can help by tweaking hidden settings like ashampoo internet accelerator, and advance system care v3 may help as well and are both freeware :D
but beware, they change hidden settings that can do the opposite of optimization ;( on some pc's
but both do come with restore points if thats the case :] and use a different email account to deal with the spam you get when registering ashampoo stuff. both can be downloaded from
