    Shiiit. Today's been just amazing.

    [*]Yay I go home (2 blocks away from the repair guy) and guess what - the HDD falls out of my hands and shatters against the pavement. w00t!

    [*]Lost all my apps. Will have to do alot of downloading to fix this one

    You sure the HDD can't be read anymore? I read somewhere that it's pretty difficult to really really make data unreadable on a HDD.


    Btw: Don't want to be patronizing, but there are this nice external harddisks with lotsa space on them.

    I saw a video on youtube - the guy used some uber-machine to drill 4 holes in his HDD. that sure made it unreadable. but I suggest a car running over it could be about the same.

    sometimes hard disks are surprisingly resistant... once dry id bring the disk to the repair guy and ask him to check it and determine if some data is still recoverable


    you can check it by yourself by using a external hard disk case (like an external hard disk but without disk...). you should be able to get one for 15-20 euro

    Looks like you can put this day right in the toilet m8. Sorry to hear about all your troubles.. but I would definitely see if there is anything recoverable on the HDD before starting from scratch.

    Water: Do you wanted to wash your HDD? And if not - why your HDD got in contact with water...

    i feel with you - its really disappointing when loose all those data - hope you can get it back somehow without much effort

    well I always keep the cover open. makes me think that the extra grab-able air is gonna make it go faster :D So I was vacuuming my room [got a vacuum cleaner w/ a water tank instead of the dust bag] and after i was done the friggin watertank just didn't want to open up. so i used some extra-unnecessary force to pull the thing open. and wow the water spilled... alot [tha tank can hold a couple of liters]

    air is good enough for cooling - i guess you are not running a high end pc running continuely under full load ;) i think for normal home systems air cooling is just enough

    It`s allways good to have some extra GHz in your box... (i wonder how much a liter or Liquid Nitrogen costs)

    As people have said, HDs are pretty difficult to destroy completely. There are companies that offer recovery services for dead drives and they can be fairly reasonably priced (if it is not a RAID system).

    btw good news - i got a buddy of mine to get back alot of useful data - mostly documents but also a couple of images and 3d models. i still have to check if they aren't corrupted, but still :)
    i bought a new hdd at a local computer store (guess what - 80 gigs :D didn't have more money atm :( ) and successfully installed [size=1]& cracked[/size] Vista SP1 :) still haven't tried if FL works, but some bugging bugs seem to have been solved.
