  • Hi everyone,

I've opened this thread to bring my Nexus mod to the attention of anyone who still plays this great game.

You can download the trailer movie from the Nexus download section here on SWAT-portal or from my site, The Old Dragon.

    Concerning The Aurora Affair...

After the mysterious disappearance of the TDF Starseeker somewhere in the remote regions around Pluto, Captain Ezekiel Lee is tasked with escorting two new destroyer class vessels to the space station 'Pluto's Watcher' in order to restore some order to the area. With this accomplished, the station commander then petitions Captain Lee to look into not only the disappearance of the Starseeker, but also that of several other merchant ships.

What follows is but one of several stories taken from Captain Lee's diaries and as much as I'd like to say more, that's somethig for you to discover...

Although there's still a lot of work to do and the Aurora Affair won't be released for a while yet, I aim to post new screenshots and news as the mod progresses.Feel free to add your thoughts and opinions, as I'd really like your input.

    But for now...

  • looks cool but imo the ship is too dark (can't be seen well) :( ...

    Fix'd.

  • I think that can be remedied by adjusting gamma settings in-game; many of the locations in Nexus are in fairly dark space, instead of inside nebulae, as in many FL systems... 8)

Looks like a realistically gritty ship skin, though; one would expect some weathering & detritus after firefights & asteroid belts!

  • In the first pic, the ship's badly damaged and 'adrift' in deep space. I thought a dark, moody star system would add more of an atmosphere to the game.

Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

  • Hi all,

After receiving an email about the trailer containing sound files, I'm thinking of going all out and adding voices for all the characters. I'd originally discarded the idea as there are some twenty or so characters in what I've scripted so far and there'll probably be another dozen by the time I'm finished.

In light of this, I'm just putting some 'feelers' out to see if anyone would be interested in helping. So if you'd like to hear yourself in Nexus, please let me know and if I get enough of a response, then hopefully (fingers crossed) I'll add voices to the subtitles.

Also, while I'm here, would anyone be able to help me make some new ship icons? I've tried following the tutorial in the Nexus forums, but with extremely limited success.

  • I am handling the voice files for Starlancer: The Sol Wars, so I'd be happy to contribute some voice files for Nexus :D As for ship icons, that will have to wait until I finally get some spare funds for Photoshop... ?(

I can manage more than one accent, and alternate inflections, but I know squat about sound processing/filtering; so if you want radio static, or echoing, you'll have to ask PC_Force or somebody to doctor the sound files... 8)

  • Hi everyone,

At the beginning of each month I plan to post an update on my mod. So...

Last month, progress slowed down a little I'm afraid as I've been concentrating more on recording and processing voice files for missions already scripted than writing the new scripts.

However, I'm also happy to announce that a new version of the trailer (v1.1) is now available from my site and hopefully, will soon arrive here on SWAT-portal. Aside from a few little tweaks to do with timing issues, the main difference between the two and the reason for this revamp are the new voice files I was persuaded to add.

If anyone else out there likes the idea of having their voice in a mod, there are still a few characters left...

  • suggestion:
this stuff looks pretty good and we like to cover and support mods from different Scifi games
not long ago ive build the base for a mod database here on SWAT
we have not added many mods there yet due to time probs but that will change soon
so additionally to the forum stuff here you could present this mod on this mod database and moderate it there

  • The start of a new month and a new update.

Things are now progressing well with eight scenarios completed and four in progress, which leaves another eight to be started (still lots of work to be done). With this mod I'm dabbling with audio for the first time, so those of you who've already downloaded the 1.1 version of the trailer, please don't think the rest of the game will like that. I'm aiming to get the audio nicely balanced for when this mod's released.

Please feel free to drop in with your comments and opinions, the more 'outside' views I can get, the better I should be able to make this mod.

And finally, what update would be complete without screenshots?

  • If I read the official Nexus forums correctly, "The Aurora Affair" is the first Nexus mod to have original voice scripting! Of course, this allows for much more freedom creating and developing a storyline; I look forward to the complete project. :D

  • The first to have sound recordings at least, there have been a couple of mods (New Conflicts for example) that have had new storylines.

  • With the start of july, I'm pleased to reveal a little taster of what's coming up in a couple of month's (Hopefully)... a new trailer for The Aurora Affair!

Work on it's preceding well with me branching out into dabbling with the background music as well, it's something new I've had to figure out so some more of my once lovely dark blue scales have now faded to grey (time to go buy some more spray paint i think...). But enough of my rambling afflictions, here's this months pics...
