TLR down again
Quote[11:05] SWAT_OP-R8R: howdy
[11:05] Sion: 'lo
[11:05] SWAT_OP-R8R: TLR down again?
[11:06] Sion: apparently, I haven't the foggiest idea as to just what in the seven blazing hells the problem is this time
[11:07] Sion: www.fllistserver.com, which crazy also hosts is working however
[11:07] SWAT_OP-R8R: nope - not for me
[11:08] SWAT_OP-R8R: oh ok - it is
[11:08] SWAT_OP-R8R: there is a comma in ur link
[11:08] Sion: botched up the link, heh
[11:08] Sion: yeah
[11:09] SWAT_OP-R8R: these up and downs start being a running gag meanwhile
[11:09] Sion: apart from the business with azza/knife bringing the site down a couple times, there hasn't been too much in the way of stability issues since Crazy took the helm
[11:10] Sion: but yes, I agree
[11:10] SWAT_OP-R8R: looks like the situation wont get better
[11:11] Sion: it's a bit early to say that for certain, I think
[11:11] Sion: though I muss confess that I'm rather curious as to what is going on myself
[11:12] Sion: must, even
[11:15] SWAT_OP-R8R: whatever it is.... its no good at all
[11:16] Sion: I'll agree with that, though at this point it may prove to have been something entirely outside of our control
[11:16] Sion: such was the case with the attacks on the site not too long ago
[11:17] SWAT_OP-R8R: it doesnt really matter what it is
[11:17] SWAT_OP-R8R: more and more players are leaving TLR
[11:18] Sion: I think it matters quite a bit
[11:18] SWAT_OP-R8R: (not that i really would care about TLRs members but I least care about FL players)
[11:19] SWAT_OP-R8R: and i believe this time (if there is a big problem again) ppl wont return that fast since they already got what they want from TLR... the downloads
[11:20] Sion: I agree that if the site does suffer another set of massive downtime that it will be a bit beyond repair
[11:20] Sion: thankfully this time around however there are more alternatives to TLR should it go completely down for a long period again
[11:21] SWAT_OP-R8R: most alternatives cant handle the community needs or are not well known
[11:22] Sion: that's true to an extent, but something is always better than nothing
[11:22] Sion: hopefully that isn't something that we'll have to worry about however
[11:22] SWAT_OP-R8R: yeah
[11:23] Sion: at any rate, I have a great deal of confidence in Crazy, and his ability to get things sorted out
[11:25] SWAT_OP-R8R: honestly i dont share this confidence since he once tried to tell me that i have to use "" tags for htlm parts in asp (which is not true... especially since it was working perfectly and bargib did the same)
[11:26] SWAT_OP-R8R: and the last TLR forum had more bugs than anything else ive seen before
[11:27] Sion: ah. well, we'll see how it goes
[11:27] SWAT_OP-R8R: yeah
[11:27] SWAT_OP-R8R: may i ask why TLR has 8 admins and 1 moderator?
[11:28] Sion: that question would be best directed to MentalChaos, I think
[11:28] Sion: it does seem a bit backwards, however
[11:28] SWAT_OP-R8R: lol ok
[11:28] SWAT_OP-R8R: i just dont understand such a structure
[11:28] SWAT_OP-R8R: especially since crazy seems to be the only1 with an adminstrative job
[11:29] Sion: I was under the impression that all of our admin/moderator tags were going to be changed to simply 'TLR Staff', myself
[11:29] Sion: but that appears to have been changed
[11:31] SWAT_OP-R8R: in case of SWAT we have 2 administrators which build new pages and have full control over the 3 webservers
[11:31] SWAT_OP-R8R: a bunch of site moderators which have control over downloads, links, galleries
[11:31] SWAT_OP-R8R: and then there are forum moderators
[11:32] SWAT_OP-R8R: for every game that we support one moderator is responsible
[11:32] Sion: the "TLR Admin" tag is a bit of a misnomer, to be honest - I'm an admin, but I don't have access to any true administrative controls
[11:32] Sion: and it certainly does not extend beyond the forum itself
[11:33] Sion: and with that last tidbit, I need to scamper off to sleep - it's a bit late (early, almost) around these parts
[11:34] SWAT_OP-R8R:
[11:34] SWAT_OP-R8R: then gn8
[11:34] Sion: hopefully by the time I wake up everything with the site will be peachy
[11:34] Sion: g'night -
nice conversation
it seems TLR has some serious problems. i for myself cant understand whats so difficult to get at least one server running - it would help much if the site would be available - downloads can be made later... to make little steps to get the thing available....hm so i assume they have much more problems than only this^^
but i share you sight - 7 "pseudo" admins, 1 admin and 1 moderator - really nice structure that cant work as it is But thats finally their decision and at least not their main issue
-
we could start a website on freewebs.com for them [lancersreactor.freewebs.com] -- then they wouldn't have to worry about downtimes
-
at least the site is online, and just one part (the 2nd most important, the forums) is offline.
-
TLR is offline again
-
what's the current reason?
-
dunno... and maybe i dont care anymore
