since ur "method" indicates improper update and a possibility of asynchronous files between server and client that could possibly crash the server or client - i still suggest to do a clean install...

  • well, it seems that cf1.7e patch is not needed anymore, and not recommended, since, (i guess) op deleted it from mod db cf download section too.

  • yes, that 1.7e patch was just a workaround for the time when the update server was offline.

  • Sadly, I now realize I'm really a computer noob, since I have not been able to get CF running again. :( I never had any trouble before with installing the mod, but it now appears that the installation procedure really bypasses FLMM, and the file structure I get now is quite different from previous versions. I DL'ed the currently posted mod version, and still no joy; maybe I better wait for CF 1.8... ;(

  • there are many players I know who followed precise instructions as usual and they cannot log onto the server....so goodone, it is not an individual problem it is widespread.

sorry for ur troubles, but i am not aware of any changes in the setup. what kind of error do u get? what is the "different file structure"? what makes u think it bypasses FLMM? if this is an issue with 1.7 and we do not know whats wrong, it could be passed on to 1.8...

  • Well, I finally got CF working again, but it does indeed have a somewhat different file structure than before. What is confusing to me is that some of my clanmates are still unsing the "old" method, installing FL first, then FLMM, then CF, and it works for them. This time I did follow the CF Guide sequence of FLMM first, then CF, then FL. The launcher behavior is quite different than before, but happily, it is also faster. And yes, I am using the CF 1.7a patch... ^_o

    good that u r operable again :)

i still don't get what u mean by "different file structure" - also, was it only due to u following the CF Guide for being online again? with "different Launcher behaviour", do u mean it is showing another set/sequence of file numbers on start?

  • oohhh the different numbers on startup. yes - what's up w/ that? why now it's 6->4xx-4xx->[freeze]->some.more.4xx->done instead of 1to8->[freeze]->done like before

it has internal reasons within the update server...

i still don't get what u mean by "different file structure"

As I recall, for quite some time, my FL folder had a subfolder called ""EXE2", with another set of files like those in the other EXE folder. FLMM was in the first EXE folder, and I think the CF files were in the EXE2 folder. This might explain why it usually took at least 5 minutes for CF to launch from the launcher window, and nearly as long to shut down. Now, I have only 1 EXE folder under FL, and have a launcher sequence the same as Magnet just described, and it takes less than a minute to launch CF... :))
