hamachi and such tools are not option in my eyesHamachi/Team Xlink's Kai will work, if they can create software to emulate the global server.
Otherwise i'll just have to plead to get the FL Global Server software from my mate - but no doubt i cant
-
i dnt think that will happen. still a simple patch of hosts settings and alternative server could make a deal. with enough advertising, imao.
imo too hamachi is not a solution. it might work, but installing another piece of network software is always a bad solution for this kind of trouble. not that i dislike hamachi network. i use it myself, and find it quite good piece of software.

RESULTS SO FAR: Freelancer Support will continue for another year if...enough people use the global server. So far, on average there are 1000-1250 players online from 6pm-9pm GMT. If we can get that to 1500-1750(very tricky i know) We can garantee support for yet another year.
If numbers decrease upto Feb/March - we will get a months server closure warning.

Hey mate
steve says:
Alright
*wwf [b]Simon[b] says:
any more luck with FL support?
steve says:
Possibly, you'll need at least another 350 people on the server at peak time to get 1yr more
*wwf [b]Simon[b] says:
ummm....thats gonna be rly easy for 2/3 months!
steve says:
yes, but it can't be helped
steve says:
the fact that support site went down doesnt help aswell
*wwf [b]Simon[b] says:
you mean Lancers Reactor?
steve says:
yes, something wrong with the hosting server i believe
*wwf [b]Simon[b] says:
ok
steve says:
hows swat portal doing
*wwf [b]Simon[b] says:
its good, more downloads and gallery pics to do yet - so its tight seeming deadline is soon
steve says:
ok, well if u can boost popularity there and in freelancer section - you could try and "save the server" that way
*wwf [b]Simon[b] says:
true
steve says:
it could work - you just gotta have a load of luck
*wwf [b]Simon[b] says:
lol, btw if the server does go down - can u get me the global server software?
Steve says:
I could, but it'd take you fucking ages to get it all sorted
Steve says:
Every player would have to edit the ini file to connect to your hostname instead of ours
Steve says:
Then you'd have to configure the global server software itself, its complex shit.
*wwf [b]Simon[b] says:
ok well i g2g, cya later mate
Steve says:
bye -
hmm
very interesting -
really interesting...
changes in the ini file could be done by the launcher or?
Besides the others work to do this should be one of the easiest parts if we know what exactly must be changed.Generally sounds not very bad for the server future... so there are some chances to let it run some further time.
-
shouldnt we focus on getting the global server players increased??
I have no damn clue how we are going to though
-
well everything depends on the other communities and LR
SWAT does not really need the GLS due to our already running softwarebut the rest of the FL community does... and i think its finally the time that ppl start listen to us instead of crying "yes" all the time
the gls can survive and we know how... lets use this knowledge to voice out thoughts -
i agree on this one. will b doing my part!
-
do we acctually need global server? because i can get in the server though the lan option not the internet and lan doesnt need global server
-
The Launcher used by this mod bypasses the GSL.
btw I loved Huor's idea of buying Microsoft. So who is up for it and of course has the money too
I think if we could know the changes to be made to the *ini file, all the servers could run and the game would never die.
Secondly Hamachi does not work for people like me who run Windows 98 or I would be on Starlancer kicking people's ass.
We should see to it that if possible we could run Freelancer on the same specifications as the game was designed to run on. :] -
still running 98? - Go with the flow of XP or vista
-
microsfotOkay i know the way
What we need to do is to create a file launcher that recognizes the mod and updates it, then lets you bypass the GLS=OR=
We release a patch that dosent need the GLS and a server side witch connects direct to anyone with the patch
by the way im a computer maniac so i know what im doing, myy friend does IT programming at college so he could mod the necessery files
[5] microsoft you [1]
im gonna [7] microsoft -

something like the Crossfire Mod Launcher that we do use for over a year?
-
lol I expect he took his ideas from this concept ;D
Very clever tho^^
-
Not quite like that, just the technology we release in a patch and a server side patch
that will create a gls without a server (if u get it, a virtual list server) [9] -

-
Its the only way ppl can still use servers
think a global launcher that uses crossfire technology will mean theres no need for a GLS
Wed have to gather host's IP's
I guesss thats how it works, right?
The System connects to an IP (the GLS has an IP)
So if we modify it to accomidate all ips it will work -
there already is a gls replacement solution:
