wc4_remake29t.jpgFans are eager to get their hands on the WC4 Fan Remake, but there's a whole lot of work yet to do. Even a demo isn't expected until well into next year, but various components and modules are in constant development. It can be hard to imagine what all goes into a complete game, but one critical but under appreciated aspect is the pause menu. In later games, the pause/options interface also served as a toggle for various options - complete with in-universe style interface. A slick mock up of this humble interface is now available to mess around with here. Check it out, and then read the rest of the article on the pause menu here.

Now we’re ramping up towards releasing our first playable demo next year, our thoughts are turning towards the more mundane elements of the game. It can’t all be flight engine and sexy HD videos. As such, Pedro tasked me with overhauling the game’s pause menu, in a

wc3_killboardt.jpgbsmith1702 was recently going over the killboard in Wing Commander 3 and noted that while it called out ace kills specifically, capital ship destructions were not included. It's just a fighter killboard. Then he had a truly "eureka!" moment. Most pilot rosters like this are sorted either by displayed name or number of kills. The WC3 board isn't ordered either way though, so it's easy to dismiss the question and assume they're more or less randomly assigned. But actually, the pilots are listed by each character's last name, not callsign! That's a pretty cool realization. Jace Dillon comes after Wingston Chang who comes after Laurel Buckley and so on. And now you're an even smarter Wing Commander fan because you know!

Another random thing I noticed was how the names are listed in the kill board. At first it didn't make much sense to me (and I liked how in WC1 the names were ranked by number of

Jim Gisriel has made a fun video on the Saga of the Warrior King. This is an amazing bit of history that we've written about extensively over the years, so it's great to see the event getting more visibility. It all began in Street Fighter and continued in Savage Dragon and Mortal Kombat before concluding in Wing Commander. These four completely unrelated shows are brought together by a viking He-man voiced by Michael Dorn. Like everyone else, Jim is mystified by the origins and reason for this existing. It obviously took a lot of effort to coordinate, yet it was also wholly unpromoted. This video credits Wing Commander as being the top episode in this mini lineup as it nicely wrapped up the story. Check it out below:

Maze has put together a really cool Kilrathi war companion for German Wing Commander fans. It's heavily based off the Kilrathi Saga manual with a lot of borrowed imagery from a mix of games and fan projects. KS didn't get the same manual in Germany, so this is a really lavish and colorful treat for Wingnuts there. If you're on top of your WC documentation, you basically know what everything says, so it's actually worth everyone taking a look even as just a visual treat. Everything clocks in at 175 pages and nearly 185 megabytes. It's a PDF that your browser might handle, but I would strongly recommend saving to your desktop for proper viewing. Grab the "Wing Commander The Kilrathi Saga - Ultimativer Info Guide" here and have fun!

Today we have a nicely detailed model of an underappreciated Kilrathi ship. Kharcov put together this representation of the Comcon surveillance craft from the Wing Commander Movie. We only see a few dedicated designs like these over the years, so highly specialized support vessels are an exotic treat. You can see the piece of concept art below that Kharcov based his model off of, and his creation is highly accurate to that original work.

The Sega CD port of Wing Commander is well known as "the one with full speech," which is awesome on its own, but it's often overlooked that the equivalent Sega Mega CD version also has full Japanese speech! Kaze no retorogēmu-kan or "Cold Retro Game Hall" has posted playthroughs of the first couple missions. They give you a great look at some of the Japanese text changes to the user interface as well as the audible enhancements to the original. I have an especially soft spot for the console WC1 graphics and music, so I could watch these all day!

prinze_galaxycon1t.jpgThe Cosmic Circus has covered Wing Commander in their latest retro review. Wing Commander games from the late '90s aren't "pixel art" and I still think the year 2000 sounds kind of futuristic, so it's almost jarring to find that Wing Commander falls into the retro category these days. At any rate, this article does a good job of emphasizing the fun parts of the film while also spending some time analyzing the character elements that didn't work as well. The author has a history with the rest of the franchise, which helps give some valuable context that other recent reviews might lack. Check out the full piece here!

We've got some more Krant updates for Howard Day's Wing Leader project today. First up is a short and sweet video of the Kilrathi medium fighter biting the dust in a hail of laser fire. The next clip shows the perspective from the Hornet cockpit with the targeting VDU now fully updated to reflect damage on the ship's frame. Finally, there are full sprite sheets of all the different angles that come together to show the craft in flight!

A collector in Spain has listed a Wing Commander Movie flight suit on eBay. A good number of these made it out via the various prop channels in the early 2000s, but you don't see very many for sale these days. This makes it a rare chance to grab one for yourself, but the price is steep at some $2100 USD equivalent. Adjusted for inflation, they used to go for about half that. You can try to make a lower offer, however.

Since most people reading this won't get a chance to see one up close, we can at least share the pics. The seller did a nice job photographing some of the detail. It's probably too late for this year, but this could make a fantastic costume for next Halloween. Let us know if you pick it up!

Here's a peek at a fabulous physical Dralthi model that elend shared today. He's been meticulously crafting the wings and central structure and is finally to a point where he can show this beauty off. I really like how closely the lines follow the Claw Marks silhouette. Engines will be complete soon, and then there are a handful of finishing touches to go. High caliber models like this are nothing new to elend: you may recall his incredible Banshee model from a while back. If this is half as detailed as that one turned out, we are in for a real treat!

Finally attached the fins, wooo! Basic shape basically (lulz) done. I think. It's 1/48 scale actually. About 30 cm in diameter, I think

Engine exhausts are ready and just have to be glued on.Detailing will start now and then painting. Still worried about the canopy, though, because I have no idea how to do it.

GBGames has been getting back into the original Wing Commander, and this has inspired him to create a pretty awesome piece of Wing Commander art. He's put together a pretty slick Bengal class blueprint poster in the style of WC1's fighter blueprints. It's very nice - and high res enough to print or make your wallpaper image!

I've been playing Wing Commander for the PC, which is very different from the SNES version I played when I was younger.

And I decided I wanted a poster of the Tiger's Claw, so I made one.

    *Pilots' Federation ALERT*
Azimuth Biotech urgently requires deliveries of Guardian artefacts to HIP 22460 as vital components of the Proteus Wave.
Salvation issued an official request to the Allied, Federal and Imperial taskforces, which was then shared via public channels:
"We have now begun assembly of the Proteus Wave. Our existing stockpile of Guardian material was sufficient to begin construction, but we must now establish a supply line capable of delivering the quantity needed to finish the weapon."
Azimuth Biotech has established an initiative to encourage independent pilots to supply the Bright Sentinel megaship with Guardian commodities. Azimuth are also offering additional ship liveries to contributors.
Pilots can deliver any combination of Guardian caskets, orbs, relics, tablets, totems and urns to the Bright Sentinel megaship in the HIP 22460 system.

    *Pilots' Federation ALERT*
The Kingfisher megaship has received commodities in advance of its mission to communicate with the first rogue signal source.
The Thargoid Advocacy Project reported that the shipments of semiconductors and Muon Imagers will contribute to the communications array aboard the megaship. The deliveries of basic medicines, fruit and vegetables will be made available to its crew and passengers, which include thousands of pro-peace supporters.
Deutsche Elite Piloten Interstellar has announced that contributors can now collect payment from Blenkinsop Hub in the Andavandul system. This includes bounty voucher reimbursements for all pilots who eliminated criminal vessels threatening deliveries during the initiative.
The Kingfisher will tomorrow make the journey from Andavandul to the permit-locked Hyades Sector YO-Q b5-1 system. The first of the rogue signal sources, which has
