chrisrobertspuppeteerat.jpgPaul Dean has posted a "lost" interview that he conducted with Chris Roberts back in 2013. It's a fantastic and in-depth conversation about Mr. Roberts' history getting into games, his thoughts on early Wing Commander development and what he's doing now (then). The piece was originally intended to be part of a larger profile, which ended up not working out. But the interview is still great, so I'm glad it was posted! You can find it in full here.

CR: I remember when we did the mission packs for Wing Commander. It all came out of the fact that when I made the game, I had all these assets created and I didn’t have enough disc space for some of the ships so I basically had to shelve them. They were sitting around and Wing Commander was doing so well. It was going to take a while to do the next one. Everyone’s like, “Well, what can we do in the meantime? Everyone loves this.”

I said, "I used to play

On top of following how other Origin games are going, another one of our non-Wing Commander passions is obviously real life space travel. It's not every day when a major tenet of science fiction turns into science reality, so we're happy to pause for a moment to acknowledge the incredible achievement made possible by thousands of smart people working together. Trust and support science and anything is possible. This new chapter in space travel continued today with the first full crew launch of the SpaceX Dragon. It was only earlier this year when the company became the first private entity to successful launch people into space. That mission carried two astronauts aboard, and today's mission includes four people destined to operate on the International Space Station for the next six months. To say we wish them well is an understatement!

Dear pilots, First of all and with all our hearts, the entire ROCKFISH team would like to thank you for your interest and participation in our forums. It has been a tremendous pleasure and invaluable help for us along the entire development process and beyond. Now, with EVERSPACE 2 still in early access for several months and with decreasing traffic and less than a dozen active users on our forums, we decided to cease hosting our own forums. The vast majority of discussions are taking place on the STEAM DISCUSSIONS anyway. By the end of March 2022, we will cease hosting our own forum and kindly ask all remaining pilots to head over to the official EVERSPACE Steam Forums for future support and discussions: EVERSPACE 1: https://steamcommunity.com/app/396750/discussions/ EVERSPACE 2: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1128920/discussions/ Kind regards and all the best, ROCKFISH Games

In late 2018, we kicked off a Foundry Challenge to celebrate the release of Victory is Life, and now it's time to announce the results! We had a lot of entries from very, very talented people, and we were blown away by the stories you tell in the Star Trek universe. The requirement was to tell a story for a Jem'Hadar or Cardassian Captain, and our winner has done that to a T. So without further ado, congratulations to XR-377, and their winning mission, "Flowers of War, Thorns of Peace." XR-377 was kind enough to make the mission twice, once for Federation Captains and their allies, and once for Klingon Defense Force Captains and their allies, so all of your characters should be able to play it. In addition to winning a T6 R&D Promotion ship of their choice, the mission is joining our roster of spotlit missions. Thanks again to everyone who entered! .share-footer a { margin: 20px 10px

Foundry Spotlight: [AEI] In Silence The Foundry is a special program within Star Trek Online that allows users to make their own episodes, playable by other Captains within STO. To access it, open your Mission Journal, and select “Foundry,” at the top. Every now and then, we like to spotlight a particularly interesting or unique mission for all of you to experience. This time, we’re spotlighting “[AEI] In Silence” by Starfarertheta. In Silence is part of an initiative called the Alliance Exploration Initiative, created by fan podcast The Foundry Roundtable. The goal was to create missions based around exploration, not just combat. In Silence takes you on a mission to meet up with a very demanding ambassador, which quickly goes off course and becomes an exploration of a long-dead space station, full of interesting and wonderful surprises. I particularly enjoyed the dialogue choices in the

In the Shadow of MIDAS returns Starfleet Captains to the MIDAS array, the deep space communication array responsible for sending messages to Voyager on its long journey home. These messages were sent via wormhole, but Starfleet scientists have managed to open the wormhole enough to send two starships through. They haven’t returned, and it’s up to your Captain to figure out the mystery of their fate. In the Shadow of MIDAS is a three part episode (And the third part isn't out yet -

That’s why what midnighttlc, better known to some as Admiral Aaron, has done here is pretty darned cool. Hang out in a social club, battle on a holodeck, and meet a host of interesting characters both original and based on the personas of your fellow players. (And one bartender based on a certain German Community Manager.) Bored with all the socializing? Summon a Borg raid to battle all across

Time Will Tell (ID: ST-HG930DWIE) is a KDF mission that begins when a mysterious anomaly appears in the Kahless Expanse, and takes its captains on a journey through time, space, and a plot that has its tongue firmly planted in cheek. I don’t want to spoil too many of its twists and turns, but be sure to keep a sharp eye out as you play, especially for some of the character names. Got a mission you think is worthy of being spotlighted in one of our monthly blogs? Submit it to us! After you’ve built it in the

Greetings Cryptic Fans, On April 11, we are sad to announce that we will be sunsetting the Foundry system for Neverwinter and Star Trek Online. This decision was not made lightly; the Foundry was a passion project for many of us, and we have loved seeing the unique stories and awesome content our Foundry Authors have produced. Developers and players alike have enjoyed using the Foundry and the friends we’ve made and the journeys we’ve had will live on in our memories. Our team at Cryptic strives to create excellent content and maintain a high standard of quality for our games. However, the legacy knowledge required to maintain the Foundry at our quality standards is no longer available. Our goal is to continue creating top-notch content for our current and upcoming games - and the development time and resources required to maintain the Foundry would impede on these new features and systems.
