Some of you may have noticed (maybe not) that Paypal is now charging a currency exchange fee on transactions, including donations to SWAT Portal. The fee was about 4% on the amount I transferred to OP this month (US dollars -> Euros); I don't know if the rate increases with the size of the transaction or remains constant. In any case, I recommend that anyone who is making donations to SWAT/Crossfire to take it upon themselves to absorb the currency exchange fee, and not expect OP to absorb the unnecessary loss of revenue to keep this great site & server open to all. This would mean that you increase your system rent payment from 20euro to 20.8 euro. This is really not a big sacrifice considering the value OP provides us all! Thanks for your cooperation, and we'll see you in space!

Nearly four centuries ago the Vulcan people visited the planet Pahvo in the Beta Quadrant and made first contact with the living planet’s unified species. The Pahvans, as they came to be known, showed a singular tranquility that was the envy of the Vulcan people. The logic of the Vulcans concluded that much could be learned from the Pahvans, if only communication could be established. A century later the U.S.S. Discovery came to Pahvo in the hopes of utilizing the planet’s resonating song to aid them in their war with the Klingon Empire. The Pahvans, knowing only peace, sought to aid their galactic brothers and sisters by inviting the Klingons to join them and find peace. For their efforts the Pahvans were nearly destroyed. An understanding began to form, albeit on troubling foundations. Now, a century and a half later, the Vulcan Science Academy has lost contact with our researchers on Pahvo.

GOG.com has kicked off their annual spring sale, and there are plenty of great deals. The Wing Commander series is marked off a customary 75%, so individual games are just $1.49 or under $12 for the whole DOS & Windows series. Some other sci-fi favorites are also on sale, including Homeworld Remastered for just $3.49 or Rebel Galaxy Outlaw half off for $15. Also as a special reminder, the WC4 that GOG sells is the DVD edition, and it's easy to drop in ODVS' new videos to watch the cutscenes in full HD!

Either on 16th or 17th May there will be a security update on the SWAT Server.

This means that the webside will be offline for about 10mins.

Also the connection to the Crossfire Server could be disturbed during that time.

“Computer - display galactic map, quadrant... Beta. Delineate current political boundaries.” As the machine complied, J’Ula regarded the field of stars framed in Federation blue, Romulan green, and Klingon red with an expression of contempt and seething rage. “Why do you dwell on this repugnant vision, Lady J’Ula,” Ketris, her first officer, growled as she entered her captain’s chambers. “Why do you gaze upon the shriveled, timid state of a once-mighty empire, all but enveloped by the bloated Federation? Why twist the blade within your heart?” “Because that sharp pain reminds me of what must be done,” J’Ula replied. “And what must be delivered unto our enemies.” She walked around the display until she came to Earth and pointed at the blue gem as it hung above the display table in her quarters. “This ugly ball of putrid water and filth was in our deathgrip, Ketris… the entire Federation
