The last time we saw CountvonSchnaps they were making some handsome cat fighters... and now they're taking things in a direction you couldn't have predicted! The good Count has now posted their take on another one of the Wing Commander universe's signature ships... Privater 2: The Darkening's famous Heretic! Amazing to see a Privateer 2 design re-interpreted like this.

Privateer 2: Heretic Medium Fighter (DeviantArt)

A (re)design of a well known medium fighter in Privateer 2 The Darkening... the Heretic Medium fighter. In use in the civilian market the fighter is in use by mercenaries, smugglers and pirates alike.

This commission was made for Heretic1311 and asked for a bronze blue color scheme and little to no markings... since the craft in question is in use by a privateer.

Fun design of a great game I enjoyed playing... already quite some time ago.

It can be hard to find archival scans of the American PC Gamer magazine online; the magazine's lawyers did a good job of taking down preserved material for a time and now it lags behind other collections. And there's one PC Gamer issue that Wing Commander fans likely remember better than most others: the October 1996 "Origin's Cutting Edge" issue. This was the first place we saw art from Wing Commander Academy, the finished form of Privateer 2, mention of the Wing Commander movie, details on Ultima IX and Ultima Online and mentions of lots of cancelled projects like a Privateer 2 crossover and an Academy game. We posted some of the Wing Commander-related pages fourteen years ago but I find myself trying to find the rest of it all the time... so we're dropping it in the archive today. The articles include a cover, an extensive interview with Richard Garriott, previews of several games and a

    Community Event
Our beloved space arcade shooter is like all of us getting older by every year. Thanks to the community and every member of it, this game is relevant and is getting more and more content from its community every year. Like last year, we are celebrating this event with a large 6 Day Event Series with showcases and Server Events across the board, all live-streamed, so if you can't join or are not in the mood to play, you will not miss it.

Back in 2021, a wingnut named Rehsin did some incredible work that we covered here including the Wing Commander I Christmas Edition and the Wing Commander I Face Mod. There's egg on our face today because we've realized we never reported on a third project updated just after those: a very nice mission editor for Wing Commander I and Wing Commander II!

I was working on a Wing Commander II-related project and happened across the ModDB page for Wing Commander Editor 1.2 and was shocked to find a fascinating little piece of software! It lets you change (and for my use examine) the campaign files from Wing Commander I and II and all four mission disks. It quickly became part of my daily WC toolkit… and then I realized we'd never posted it here!

We've added a copy to our archive here (2 megs). Resin has a page of their Wing Commander work here (which includes some other neat stuff including a comic and a

This is a reminder that we have another fun #Wingnut event happening on Discord this morning! Join us at noon EST/9 AM PST for a fun filled morning of television... that all connect to Wing Commander somehow! This time around we're traveling back in time to the early 1990s to celebrate some of the terrible shows the original Privateer team apparently enjoyed (or just couldn't look away from). You can find details on the shows included as well as how to watch along with us in the announcement post here. Be sure to download the episodes so they're ready to play with the group!

Here's a deep and useful look at some obscure gear: mkdud1 has posted a control map for the 3DO CH Flightstick Pro and a look at how to restore their potentiometers! The distinct CH Flightstick Pro is probably familiar to a lot of classic fans… but fewer know that a version was also released for the 3DO which was explicitly supported by Super Wing Commander and Wing Commander III! Tracking down (or emulating) a Flightstick Pro makes the 3DO Wing Commandering experience a truly beautiful thing. If you'd like to know more, you can find the original thread on Reddit.

Here is a map for the CH Flightstick Pro controls for 3DO SWC. I have updated this on 1-18-26 to include some of the hat functions; this is helpful during combat when you want to send a quick taunt during combat or a command to your wingman. The slightly hidden red printing for the right shift button reads "Right Shift with B = Brake to 0,
