Further information has emerged regarding Vidar Trask's failed attempt to take control of the Kumo Crew syndicate.
The latest findings were reported by The Pegasi Sentinel:
"The few survivors from Trask's shattered army have revealed that over a thousand fighters were supplied by the Blue Viper Club dredger clan. Kay Volantyne, one of its leaders, is now confirmed to have masterminded the coup alongside Trask."
"Their motivations were as different as their backgrounds. Trask rose to power beside Archon Delaine but became frustrated under his rule, believing that he could reorganise the Kumo Crew along more efficient lines. Volantyne aimed to provide her nomadic tribe with permanent homes, to be financed by trafficking onionhead gamma strain and protected by the syndicate's might."
"We have also learned that the standard of living on the Blue Viper Club dredger has markedly improved in recent

With the Alliance presidential race gathering speed, political journalist Vanya Driscoll has published an analysis in The Alliance Tribune:

"The election of a new president is usually a ceremonial matter, during which voters select a public 'face' for the Alliance, but this year is a genuine power struggle – one that may have major consequences."

"Elijah Beck is the only candidate who seems content with the status quo. By contrast, entrepreneur Fazia Silva promises to boost the economy and increase commerce. Her new financial policies have been welcomed by interstellar corporations and small businesses alike."

"President Gibson Kincaid is causing the most controversy, however. His proposal that the role of president should include executive powers is being taken seriously by the Assembly. Kincaid claims that having a single controlling voice will enable the Alliance to 'challenge our rivals'

It seems like we've said it a lot this past year, but these are trying times. I know quite a few Wingnuts live in the DC area, including multiple members of the CIC Staff. We hope you're all staying safe out there tonight. It's never our intent to trivialize serious or stressful events, but hopefully you can find some much-needed distraction and comfort in our posts. Of course, there's always a Wing Commander angle to real life events, and the Terran Confederation is no stranger to assaults on Washington DC. The district is still the seat of power for humanity in the 27th Century, centered on the Hall of the Great Assembly adjacent to the old US Capitol building. You can learn more about civics in the WC universe in LOAF's wonderful article here.

FrankyFiggs14 has posted another classic French mag scan, and this one has an interesting take on Wing Commander 4's tagline phrase. It comes from the December 1995 issue of Joystick. After translation, the big caption reads, "The Price of Freedom is Eternal Combat." As LOAF notes, "Eternal combat sounds a little less prestigious than eternal vigilance!" It's also one of the many pieces of copy out there that advertise a December release. After tons of marketing went to print, the game was delayed until February 12 the following year. Pretty neat artifact all around!

joystick_1995december4t.jpgA few other pages from the issue for context:

The King of Grabs has turned his attention to the Wing Commander series. The concept here is to take a whole pile of screenshots for all sorts of classic games. We love giant walls of WC screenshots, so this is right up our alley. They do run into a bit of a classic pitfall: there are dozens and dozens of pictures of WC1... which are all flying the Hornet in the Enyo System. Likewise, the WC2 images are all flying the Ferret in Gwenydd. It's a missed opportunity to see a greater variety of ships and some of the cooler late-game set pieces, but it's still a pleasing sight. Stay tuned for Hellcat dogfighting in Orsini!

Wing Commander was developed by Chris Roberts and his team at Origin Systems and first released for PC MS-DOS in 1990. It’s a classic cockpit-based space combat game with cinematic cut scenes, and it developed into a long-running series. The Wing Commander series.

News of a meeting between Princess Aisling Duval and Imperator Hadrian Augustus Duval has caused controversy throughout the Empire.

Political journalist Cassia Carvalho reviewed the situation:

"Princess Aisling is surely aware that contacting Hadrian Duval was a politically risky move. Senator Zemina Torval has wasted no time in branding the princess 'an ideological traitor' for associating with isolationists."

"Family connections aside, Hadrian's traditionalist views do not align with Aisling's progressive approach. But he is young and inexperienced, with policies inherited from the extremist Imperator Mordanticus."

"Perhaps Aisling hopes that, by learning to adapt, this long-lost member of the Duval family may yet play a part on the galactic stage."

Mac has several goodies to share that are a happy byproduct of the research he's been doing for his next lore video. The results include a couple of new wallpaper images that feature Klavs' Rapiers. One is a slick technical interface that evokes the classic WC1 blueprints with a modern feel. There is also a mock-up of a Rapier dashing away from exploding Kilrah - perhaps in a world where Confed struck the planet much earlier in the war. Last, but not least, there's an embedded video with a cool spinning render of the ship. We're looking forward to see all these kinds of elements come together in a future Mac video!

Yet another thing I've been messing with on the side is the idea of print-ready Tech Diagrams for the #WingCommander/#Freespace fighters and releasing to the public. I haven't printed any yet, but I'll try soon enough. The WC1 Rapier here is the first attempt at this.

With the launch of the Discovery Legends Reputation, we want to make sure Captains have a wide variety of content in which to earn progress towards their new items. With that in mind, starting with the launch of Rise of Discovery on May 14th, you’ll receive Discovery Marks from the returning Task Force Operations Pahvo Dissension, Peril over Pahvo, and Operation Riposte. The Defense of Starbase One will also be joining this reputation, switching over to grant a choice of Discovery Marks or Fleet Marks on completion. The Advanced and Elite versions of these TFOs will grant P.stellaviatori Spores as well. This means the reputation will be launching with four Task Force Operations that you can use to advance in it, and gain the technology and powers of the characters of Star Trek: Discovery. Enjoy, Captains. .share-footer a { margin: 20px 10px 10px 0; background: url(

During the Iconian War, the best and brightest of the Alliance came together and began anew – training a new generation to take up arms in the greatest conflict the galaxy had ever seen. This new generation of officers had a name, one that’s rung throughout history. The Delta Recruits. We’re pleased to announce that, for the first time since 2015, the Delta Recruit program is returning, first to PC, and later to Xbox One and Playstation 4 for the very first time. Starfleet, the Klingon Defense Force, and the Romulan Republic have all kicked up their recruiting efforts. New captains in any of these factions will be known as Delta Recruits, and they bring with them the knowledge and capability needed to see to the future of the galaxy. There will never been a better time to start playing Star Trek Online than during the Delta Recruitment event, which runs from April 19th to May 17th on PC.

As the superpowers establish their fleets in the HIP 22460 system, Azimuth Biotech prepares to deliver a decisive blow against the Thargoids.
A segment from Salvation's briefing to the anti-xeno taskforce admirals was shared by Azimuth:
"The Proteus Wave relies on power sources and components of Guardian origin, which will inevitably draw the Thargoids to HIP 22460. As we know, their hostile reaction to stockpiles of Guardian artefacts is instinctive. They have no defence against the weaponry of their ancient enemies, other than to launch pre-emptive strikes to prevent it being deployed."
"Therefore, the Bright Sentinel must be protected as a priority while delivered artefacts are processed for transport to the Proteus Wave site, with independent pilots who support our endeavour aiding these efforts. I cannot stress enough how vital it is to keep the enemy at bay during this phase of the
