Hallo Leute,

    Hi Rex, hi everybody,

it pleases me that my thread draw so much attention. I don't stick with my opinion. And I don't want rules changed and and whatever. TDM is fun, for me it was fun - at least when I forget about my troubles in the last two rounds. I only wanted to tell you, what I experience and what I feel.

It's interesting to see different opinions. To me it's important to realize who wants to win at all cost and who is there "only" for having fun.

Well, if I have time next monday, I will be there in space, because Rex Nebular invited me so charming....

    Bye mates

    Hi Rex Nebular,

I'd lift my hat (if I had one) and bow in awe to you according to the wisdom in that statement, mate. You are really the cool guy, space adventurer. I'd be glad to join in your team. :)

    Hi Rex Nebular,

Thanks for your post. I'll try hard to see it your way. Have a good time.

    Bel

But you must say as well... when it comes to find the teams.... it's a bad thing when the team captains know it would be better to fight with four mates than with six, because the last two are losing the event.....

    Hi Spiky,

    Quote

this is TDM after all yes everyone tries to have fun, and lets be honest its in humans nature willing to win, even if its deep inside but in the end everyone is content if he wins... thats one reason why I go after you in events (same as ASF/CSF)

Hi mate, how could you know that it was you I meant? :D

Well. I see your point, too. I cannot talk for RexNebular, but I for myself tried to pick several targets. I tried everyone once, maybe to measure how good they are, and I couldn't beat you and Marauder and Shockwave at all.

But the other reason is, I didn't want to go after Mellon all the time - because I know that it's frustrating, when somebody is constantly behind you and I realized to late, that the late BG Pilot would have been a good opponent for me.

By the way, Mellon didn't give me the satisfaction I needed, because he managed to kill himself with his own missiles all the time when I nearly had him down .... ;(

The reason why I picked you as a target later was, that I had the feeling you were after me all the time and so I didn't want to draw more attention from other pilots as well....

I don't want to win whatever the cost. But I don't want to be one of the poor guys, who have six or seven times more death than good shots..... and all the laughs goes on me....

When it's this frustrating like the last two tdm's , I guess I will stay away from that event for some time........

    @OP_R8R :
Well I hope we see you back in space, when 1.8 is released. Would be a pleasure. By the way: The tdm-event has nothing to do with the good old events, when you were "out" when shot.
It was not so frustrating, when you lost a fight then and looked at the rest.
On the other hand you can learn more, doing the relaunch again and again. I love the idea of tdm. But - like Lucy said - it's the way it is and nothing can change that, I fear....

    Hi Huor,

did you have a nice birthday? Well, thanks for offering that opportunity. It's nice to meet someone with equal skills. There are some more players out there, who match our skills, too. And I don't like it when very skilled pilots do their jokes on behalf of the not so skilled. RexNebular begged me to return to the next event, because he fears to be alone out there, everybody looking for to shooting on him, when you know what I mean.

But must we really have a parallel event - kind of a second division - with pilots who cannot match the flying skills like Spiky or Kermit or Apocalypse, for not losing the fun in flying?

To my mind, the topic is another. It is nice to fight with comrades. That's what events are all about.... And I love them. I don't have problems ending up with 4/13, when I have the feeling, that this is a mirror to my skills. But when you are more or less constantly attacked by pilots who play in another league, you cannot learn anything. You only can launch a hundred times....

There are pilots out there who are very good. And their rates are low. They are not less good than other elite pilots. They are just playing fair und live their honour to search equal skilled opponents and let less skilled pilots fly, because they won't do them harm anyway......

I have no problems, fighting a really good pilot in an event. But it must not be constantly, otherwise, new pilots maybe won't join in the "fun" anymore..... and then the all the rest can have their three-person-teams.

    Bye mate
    Bel

    Hi mates,

something to events, here especially to the TDM-EVENT on monday evening.

Lucy is doing great. That event could be the best happening during the week on freelancer crossfire.

    BUT:

I have a problem having fun there now. One reason might be, that I am not an experienced fighter. But you all know how it works. You only improve, if you try and try and try. Events in general are a great opportunity.

Rookies and people who maybe never learn how to fly a fighter (like me), and I am trying pvp since May 2004, are looking for opponents who have the same grade of skills. FUN is what keeps events alive. Thought about it, how people feel, ending up with 1/17 or 2/14 or 5/29?

Some people who MUST WIN whatever the cost are looking for victims like me to reach a rate of 20/2 or something like that..... They think they are great. Are they? They might be good pilots, but do they know something about honor and fairness?
They should try to watch the scene from another perspective.

I don't envy people who do that unbelievable rates.... I look up to people who reach 2/1 or 4/3 or even 1/2 or 2/3. You know what I mean? People who just ignore new and unready pilots and search an opponent with even skills.

There have been some pilots in the last event, and I had several chances to improve my rate. But you cannot become satisfied, when your targets or yourself are shot from elite fighters and you end up with something like 2/14.

I take that personally, when that doesn't change. And elite pilots who go on eliminating me six times in a row, I put on my personal "don't like anymore list".

That's what I wanted to say. I would be happy, when there are some people aout there to discuss that matter.

    Hi everybody,

    my system: vista 32
    my antivir: AVG

I deinstalled Norton and installed the "buy-version" of antivirus.
After that I made sure, that the path to Freelancer-Mod-Manager and Freelancer-exe-folder is not stopped or controlled by AVG.

After hundreds of klicks, switching "internet explorer to offline" after the "crossfire multiplayer launch" (which starts the intros....) I managed it twice to connect to the server. But now it won't work again....

    Some ideas?

    Thanks
    Belphegor....

    Hallo bonzai,

    danke
    Belphegor

    Hi gunny,

well, I don`t know. Are you sure with that? I guess, that X would be the most interesting place for pirates, if that were the case.

A ship from a crossfire system with one mooring ficture in it must leave the crossfire system, right? Through X-3043 in most cases, I guess. Right? And trains are not the quickest ships.

And that would mean, that X-3043 and the surrounding would be the most dangerous in the hole universe. Not to forget, that lots of crossfire systems are clan systems meanwhile. Only an idiot would try to drive his train in Custodian or Tarsus or Casius to sell goods there. And a permission would makes taxes higher. Multimillionair?

Maybe it would make roleplay more interesting as well. Task forces to secure a train reach it's destination.... and the like.

Come to where the flavor is, come to X-3043... :D

What do you and what do the other pilots think of this?

    Have a nice day
    Belphegor

    Hi there,

    it would be nice if:

at least one planet in every crossfire system had a mooning fixture, so that trains, battleships and the like can dock.

there were at least one more jumphole in Sol leading somewhere near x and some planets and bases. Sol is so boring without heavy traffic.... :D

there were at least one real light fighter with a high grade of agility and maybe two lvl 9 and two lvl 10 slots for guns.

there would be one good ship with german national emblems..... ;)

and some more jumpholes would't disturb me.... as a smuggler. Pirates should not have the chance to waylay this easy on the most profitable trade routes....

    bye
    Belphegor

    Hey guys, ;-)

is the crossfire server frequently down today? I ask, because I could only connect twice via LAN, the other LAN-attempts failed. 24/7 crossfire wasn´t displayed. The same right now.

    Hi, SandsoftimeIII,

I did a re-install of freelancer. And after that, the mod works out just fine. Maybe you should try the same.

    Bye
    Belphegor

P.S. : with selecting "re-install" all your online-ships and servers are still there

    my oh my....

seems we have kind of a problem there.

    My error reads:

3711 files restored and 0 directories deleted
Error: problem activating 'Crossfire Mod 1.62 Client Edition'
    Error: SHCopyFile failed ('D:\Spiele\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\DLLS\BIN\content.dll.flmmbak' to 'D:\Spiele\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\DLLS\BIN\flmmbakspcontent.dll')

What am I supposed to do now?
I hope I don´t have to delete Freelancer completely for a complete new install with new ID and so on? Afraid, that all my online-ships maybe gone then?

    bye
