You do have the right codec installed, but make sure it takes priority over other MP3 decoders (e.g. there is "MP3 Decoder DMO" in your list).
In XP one can change priorities in Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Hardware -> Audio Codecs -> Properties, maybe you find something similar in Windows 7.

you are probably speaking of the ship called Bastard - here it is on the right side of the picture:

One can buy a Bastard at Montezuma Base (Cortez) and Arranmore Base (Dublin), both run by criminals - Liberty Rogues and Mollys respectively.

I couldn't get what you meant by "opening", until remembering that I always select "skip all movies" during the mod activation

Please explain what exactly you mean by "opening fighter shown in the Crossfire beginning", or just provide a screenshot of the ship you're looking for (PrintScreen key pressed in game saves a screen capture to My Images folder).

Your question about the best fighter does not have a certain answer - the choice always depends on one's preference. I personally use Reaper (Lhasa Station, Casius) and Lagg (Charkow Outpost, Sovetskaya), but most commonly spread fighters on the server are Cayman (Battleship Nagumo, Kyushu), Chimera (Capua Station, Helios), Saracen (Donezk Station, Vorkuta) and Redemption (Station Hope, Tarsus). Please note that "most commonly" does not mean "99% cases", actually you can see a great variety of ships used by different players. It only proves that the best fighter is the one you like

You are right - detailed guides are missing, but only for one reason: everything is very simple in Crossfire Basically, all you need to become a smuggler is a cargo ship and a Smuggler Syndicate License.

Cheap freighters are available from the very beginning, even if you have only the starting money. You can start with smaller ships and upgrade to better ones as you wealth multiplies.
Licenses are sold on capital planets (Manhattan, New London, New Tokyo, New Berlin, Crossfire) and cost 1 million. Before obtaining the license you can only trade with regular commodities.

It would be wise to improve your reputation with as many factions as possible, especially criminals - most black market goods are spread through their hands. More hints about reputation (and Crossfire in general) can be found here: Starter Guide
