Sol is not likely the actual problem, since I have been in that system multiple times with other players, with no crashes. More likely is that there are corrupt installs on players comps, where the do not have completely clean CF files. When there are more players online, there are also more newbies to CF, and not all players are content to desist from trying exploits of the code or "additional" mod features.

It might become necessary to password the server, and do a screening procedure to eliminate players with these corrupt installs. So far, I have not been on the server more than 90 minutes without a server crash, and most all the time, there are players online who I don't recognize (new to CF). It's really difficult to do any extensive system exploration with unpredictable server stabilty, but not impossible. :-|

I just noticed a small graphics issue: After spending some extended time in Altair using the new (excellent!) trade lanes, the old models in Sirius now display the particle circles now appear to be off-location, slightly closer to the center of the TL structure than normal. Dunno if this is merely a driver issue, but I am using my ATI HD 3850 card (512Mb).

CF 1.8 works just as before with FLMM; just be sure CF 1.7 is not one of the mods in the mod folder; I kept getting some kind of cross-contamination until I wiped 1.7. Now it works beautifully. :D

I think the most important issue ATM is that all players need to be sure they have done a COMPLETE re-install of FL, FLMM & CF1.8, with no other mod data in the mods folder, just to be sure they have a clean install. Almost certainly, some players are having the same issue I was, which seems fixed now. I am now only subject to the same server crashes as everyone else, as I write this (keeping fingers crossed). 8)

Maybe it is jusy that I have my old X700 Radeon card installed, but travel through nebulas creates rather jumpy graphics for me ATM. I need to replace my monitor soon, though, so maybe this will clear up when I put my HD3850 back in...

Keep in mind, that this is THE largest FL mod, and it takes a few weeks to kick the tires & discover the little quirks that cause instabilities. As eager as you are to get on with character building, do not lose sight of the fact that the mod & server get adjusted to the myriad of player machine setups, as well as the players adapting to the needs of the mod. Soon enough, we will all be enjoying much more stability & shooting each other again!! :D

If CF 1.7 is still in the FLMM/mods folder, the launcher will pick up the CF 1.7 website, which causes the launcher v1.6 to activate. Remove CF1.7 from FLMM, and all will be well again. 8)

EDIT: BE SURE there is NO trace of CF 1.7 in the mods folder; I wiped all files I recognized as part of 1.7, but obviously I missed something, because I still got the v1.6 launcher the second time I launched CF from FLMM... ^^

I am happy to report that I finally realized my activation problem: Saxon is correct, the launcher was picking up CF1.7 files, but not from a restart file. What I finally did was to remove CF 1.7 from FLMM altogether, so CF 1.8 is the only mod there. I think that the launcher was picking up the CF 1.7 website file from the /mods folder, since it has numerical priority over 1.8 when both are present.

Now I have a stable install, trading is normal, and the server has not crashed within seconds of login! My apologies to those who were incovenienced by the server crashes I undoubtably caused... 8)

    EDIT:
I thought this problem was cleared up, but I just tried to launch CF again, and even with no trace of CF 1,7 in my mods folder, the v1.6 launcher came up again! I guess I'll now have to try and delete the mods folder itself, to be sure there is no possibility of cross-contamination... X( Otherwise, I can see no clear solution, apart from re-activating CF every time I want to log into the serveer.

Nope, I did not install the patch, only the CF 1.8 mod. Mod install was no problem, when I let it find its own destination, and FLMM had no problems activating it. In any case, I appear to have a bad economy setup, so I will have to do it all over agin, anyway. :(
