Problem running Crossfire MOD under Windows Vista

    I tried installing and running the Crossfire MOD on a friends computer today. His computer is running Vista. I received an error that said that there is a component missing.


    Is this common for Vista user who try run the Crossfire MOD? Maybe I messed it up myself just like him. I'm not sure. But I don't think so.


    I installed the same mod on my computer under Windows XP. And it's working fine. I don't get any errors. I think the error message sad that component "MSI....OCX". It was MSI something .OCX



    Any help would be appreciated.

    well,as far as i know,CF has not been made for Vista...

    i have never tested the launcher on Vista


    the ActiveX "msinet.ocx" is needed by the launcher, but also included in the mod...


    at least u can try to register that component by opening a command window and entering this line "regsvr32 c:\program files\microsoft games\freelancer\exe\msinet.ocx" (adjust the parameter to match ur freelancer path)

    Question: Only registered this ocx file? I made the same and i could start the game until the server selection window - crossfire was not accessable :( Now it doesn't matter - i uninstalled VISTA - i found it horrible ;D

    If you got it working under Vista, please share it. I'm planning on building a new PC sometime soon and am planning to install Vista on it.

    No Tyrael. Crossfire works fine on my computer. I run XP. It's my friends computer that is the problem. I'm sure I can fix the problem with the help of google. But I kinda need to be behind the actual computer that has the problem.


    It's just that I can't really concentrate over there lol. Not only that, but my friends computer is a mess. Like you've never seen.


    So that's why I'm hoping to find someone who already knows. I think it's just a few files that is needed. And maybe some windows settings to adjust.

    I've got CF running in Vista in SP w/out probs in SP but not in MP:
    1. I launch freelancer from a desktop shortcut
    2. See the launcer, launcher updates, multiplayer active
    3. Press "launch multiplayer"
    4. FL runs
    5a. Press SP -> Everything OK
    5b. Press MP -> ESRB Content thing = Accept -> Internet -> Global serv. OK, internet games OK -> Set Filters -> Hide incompatible -> 24/7 SWAT CF Server -> [3] Unable to connect. [3][1][3]

    since i don't have vista (and don't plan to get it unless i am forced to do so) i cannot give a "how to do" list


    maybe u want to check for your firewall, as i have heard there might be some problems there. also you can check the lancers reactor forum for some threads concerning vista and freelancer...

    Not sure, but there's another thread about the server being down, maybe it's just that. Looks like that atleast. I'm unable to check atm, but you should just try again latr.

    yes, there are, but there are no actual hints/tips/solutions... something about a patch that was supposed to be released but wasn't...

    since u know now that this is a prob with vista and ppl r waiting for a patch by MS, what would u like us to do? doing MS work and making a vista patch ourself?^^
