are my reflexes cack?

  • I'm new to this mod. Upon playing I've found fending off NPC threats an extremely time consuming excercise.
They seem to jump about the screen as if blinking.

Is it some form of lag..or..is this an attempt at 'real' space combat (extreme speeds involved)?

If it's how it's supposed to be (as in just lag)
how do others manage without tearing their hair out in frustration and carpal tunnel syndrome!

Or, maybe I'm just too old and the reflexes are shot :D

  • Maybe it's just me, but I find that when hunting NPC's, the lag they seem to display is reduced when I use forward and reverse thrusters together. It provides a slower chase, and the ships don't zig-zag quite as far or as fast. And you will find that most NPC factions have a characteristic evasion/fighting pattern, so you can wait until the slowest moment to blast 'em!

  • The manuvering of the NPCs does reflect the server conditions as you suspected. The more laggy or jumpy the server, the worse the NPCs will be. The calmser and smoother the server, the easier to hunt they will be.

And as CA is saying, all NPCs have one single flaw in their flight pattern, no matter the faction, ship, or house/location: they will eventually fly in a straight line. That is the best time to lay them out if server conditions are not in your favor. But dont shoot torpedoes or missiles when they do this, as the explosion will kill the escape pod as well as the ship itself. ;)

And if they were suppoised to be that way Dopple, then they would fly more roughly in SP, wouldnt they? ^^ The element to help build your skill is the simple fact that they reload, which urges you to utilize different tactics in order to kill them even faster.

  • If you're not in the mood for a (long) fight with npc's just fly backwords using your afterburner at a certain speed and distance. They will fly to you in a straight line and are to kill in a few seconds. ;)

I know it's quite lame but it just works to good :P

  • Actually, they usually aren't that hard to fight. I think if they "jump around" like you say, its because of lag, and a way to help that is to disable all applications (not the background ones, unless you are sure you can disable them) but no apps like WMP, MSN Messenger, Aim, Skype, XFire, TS and so on. And disable Steam if you have it. My computer once froze because Steam had started an update in the middle of my game...

And if you don't use any of these apps whilst you play, well then maybe its time you get a better internet connection? :D
