Windows 11 users have errors in launcher

    I was talking on discord how I was having some errors downloading files with Crossfire Launcher. I am on Windows 11.


    The log was the following:

    I was talking to user LMRK about it and they had no idea about how to fix this.


    User OPR8R came into the room and suggested the following:


    1. as a rule of thumb... when others dont have the same error then the problem is a local one


    2. the files mentioned are all on the server


    3. just checked it


    4. so something on your PC must be blocking downloads


    5. could be some AV tool, could be a firewall, could be a permission setting


    6. hard to tell without knowing your system


    I tried reinstalling and disabling all protections. No improvement.



    I asked in another channel about it and user War Hog09 said they were also on W11 and also had errors.


    The errors between our systems matched.


    Something is clearly going wrong with Crossfire users and Windows 11.


    I thought I would bring this up here formally in hopes of getting a fix.

    Just because the errors match it does not mean that it is because of Windows 11 or an incompatibility with it.

    I am on Win11 since day one and never experienced such issues and I know from the network data that a significant amount of players that use the launcher on Win11 seem to have absolutely no issues at all.


    As I have mentioned, the issue most likely is some setting or some tool on your PC causing these issues.

    There are plenty of AV tools, firewalls and so called performance boosters which could cause such problems.

    I know from experience that these tools do much more than what they are allowed to do.


    Alternative to that there also could be a gateway issue somewhere between you and the update server which causes timeouts just when trying to access the files.

    I can only speculate about such stuff.

    Ive done some updates towards forcing the update of the mentioned files.

    ok at least it looks like half of the errors are gone

    That's progress.

    Could be that the log and python files stumble over some strange Linux to windows transfer issue but I have an idea how to potentially get around that issue.

    As a side note to this, i had reported in ticket weeks ago about the launcher only loading 35/41 files And you could not replicate what was going on. And you could not find the files that were not loading. Well to my surprise yesterday while fixing urbanracers problem. It also fixed some of mine. Not to get to confusing. It started at 35 out of 41. Then it now downloaded 3 files moving it to 38 out of 41. The difference between him and me was there was nothing in the logs for me. Appreciate your time and effort op. :thankyou:

    well interesting continue,s op. now the launcher says 0 of 35 and it completely loads 35 of 35 files. and launchers normaly. what ever you have done the last two days or so has now fixed my situation too. :salutes

    for me it was loading all the files, no matter what

    I bypassed a timeout setting which apparently fixed the first few files. The others where python files required for the shaders. I assume that under certain circumstances due to the different operating systems of the client and the update server a conflict appeared. Dunno.

    I tricked the update server to recognize it as a different file type now but still deliver the original type to the windows clients.
