This app can't run on your PC [SOLVED]

  • My install of Crossfire won't run, I get a message from my windows system that says "This app can't run on your PC. Please contact the developer for a version that works on your PC."

I starting playing Crossfire yesterday, and it worked, except for particle effects and stars in the systems showing up as squares of colour. (Same problem as shown in this thread: *Game bug? )

I like pretty things, and didn't want to play the game with this issue, so I did a COMPLETE uninstall in the order of Deactivating crossfire in FLMM> Uninstalling Crossfire> Uninstalling Freelancer. I then installed everything again, and now I get the really annoying issue of "This App Can't run on your PC".

Anyone know what I can do?

    Thanks and God Bless everyone!

    PS: Things I've tried

    Reinstalling again

Reinstalling away from the regular install folders

    Setting programs as Administrator

    Reinstalling .NET Framework

    Crying like a baby:baby:;(

PPS: Regular Freelancer still works, when installed in a second location, different drive, and so on.

  • Ok, Problem Solved.

Apparently the issue arose due o the location where I unzipped the installer for Crossfire. After unzipping it on the desktop instead of the location where I had been installing from before, the issue of "This app can't work on your PC" disappeared.

Now an additional problem has spawned. I'm off to iron out the remaining issues.

    God Bless

  • Greetings, I did in last week few game reinstall to new PC and there was only one real issue when I had game (freelancer) installed into C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Freelancer. When installed into D:\Freelancer all worked smoothly. Also, how big is your Freelancer folder after mod activation? (it should be almost 8GB)

I'm getting 8.02 gigabytes after activation, sir.

  • UPDATE: HUZZAH!

All Problems Resolved! Even all the different Shaders are functioning now, which never happened before!

First, the "This app can't run on your PC" was solved as above. to reiterate, by unzipping the Crossfire 2.0 folder on my desktop before installing.

Second, I read in this thread that one must accept the License agreement that appears after installing vanilla freelancer prior to installing Crossfire: Error in launching the game

That solved my "Error Code 1" Issue

Thirdly, my original error that caused me to uninstall a functional install of Crossfire 2.0 (Particles and Stars appearing as colored squares) has also been solved, presumably because of Freelancer being installed on my desktop, where the '.EXE' is now unrestricted in it's ability to access textures for particles and suns. (I could be wrong about this.)

    Thank you!

(P.S:Am I able to mark my own thread as resolved, or is that the job of an Administrator?)

(P.P.S: I encountered the "This app can't run on your PC" issue a second time. This time, the issue was solved by copying the 'Crossfire Launcher.EXE' from the files installed into my Freelancer Mod Manager 'Mods' folder, and placing it into my Crossfire 'EXE' folder directly.

I have a theory as to when the bug initiated: It happened directly after cancelling the Launcher's effort check for updates. I cancelled the update check, because my internet is really slow right now, and I didn't want to download any possible update. Apparently, cancelling the update check bugged the Launcher, so as to make it unable to run on my PC.)

  • Crossfire is a complex modification, OP has developed CMP's, Scripts, Intro videos, and a lot of other stuff. Back in 2009 i had almost the same problem on my old laptop and couldn't feel the atmosphere of the mod like it should. I had to buy a new PC to play the mod, but it was rewarding :)
