So. I've installed 2.0 Beta and as I was in the process of it updating files my AVG decided to find a heur virus inside my freelancer folder "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\DSAce.dll" this is where it was located. Anyone care to clear things up? Is this a false positive?

Oh? Why does it even set off alarm bells in the first place if you don't mind my asking?

heur means heuristic scan
which is a scan for signatures or components that once were detected in an infected filethis does not mean that there is a virus
it only means that this file shares a signature similar to a file which once contained a virusunfortunatly cheap/primitive AV tools like AVG or Avira mostly rely on heuristic scans because they are not updating correct virus databases
to be 100% sure you should submit that file here -> http://www.avg.com/submit-sampleif reported as false positive this file will be removed from the check for all users in future
(I have btw. did a check of that file on 54 AV tools 2 days ago.... only one of them reported it to be a problem -> and that the explanation why it was a problem was just idiotic)

Ah, thanks for the info. Guess I got worried over nothing then. Always helps to be cautious, though. Thanks

my advice... submit the file
this way you are always on the secure side and other users wont run into the same issue -
Will do.

Haha. Thanks again. I've sent it off to AVG and now we'll see if they get back to me on it.
