Hello and welcome! First off, when the menu comes up, go into options. Then the control page and see if the Tab is programed to be the thruster. If it's not make it so if it is empty. Otherwise you can check for where it might be but default is the Tab key. hth.

if the previous advice doesn't help, make sure you haven't sold or unmounted your thruster (the corresponding slot in Inventory -> External Equipment must not be empty).
