after many years of protecting my freelancer c/d the start of my adrenalin rush and the arrival to crossfire mod version has vanished. 
hoping there is a thin chance someone can suggest where i can get another c/d from

I found it on Amazon.com: Freelancer for 20$
I use an .iso file, as I made a copy of the disc, many years ago (u need program to remove copy protection). Yes, this is legal if you have original (where I come from).

Its a bugger you didn't backup the game as stated but if you did own the game before it vanished.
Couldn't you just erm borrow it from someone and make yourself a backup.
Myself I would just buy another copy but I'm a Freelancer addict what can I say.
